Timing between bilateral THRs?

Hi LeoRuby don't make any decisions on timings for your next surgery at this point in your recovery as things get much, much easier after about 3/4 weeks. As you see from my signature I had my surgeries 12 weeks apart and for me that was about right, although I probably could have managed it a few weeks earlier. I was driving at 4 weeks both times and back at work, albeit part time at 5 weeks. I'm no super human and certainly not fit and at 60 not young either but for me that was all very doable. At your stage in recovery I felt I'd never get back to where I was even let alone feel better but better I am and working on my fitness, slowly but surely. Hello Littlejem, I really needed to hear your words of encouragement today, THANK YOU. It is inspiring and gives me hope to know it's normal to feel the way I do right now, and that it WILL get better. I know this logically, but emotionally.....it can be challenging. So, again - thank you!

I would have never thought I would have my hips done 15 weeks apart (left hip July 15, 2013 right hip October 28, 2013) at any time during the first few weeks after hip one. Somewhere around week 6 I hit a plateau, walking was a bit harder, pain was starting to creep in at night on the right side, and some of the non hip pains were returning on the right side. At my 6 week appointment I complained that I felt my progress wasn't that great for not feeling any pain in the new hip. OS asked me to walk across the room and then asked me how much my right hip was bothering me...had surgery two scheduled before I left his office.

I knew this would cure the pain and there was the same insurance reasons also. I go to Obama care in January so who knows what that will bring but by then I will have had surgery, 2 months of recovery and PT...hopefully back to near normal as possible.

Everyone will be scrabbling to get things done by December 31st so why not schedule and cancel if you don't feel ready...bet you will feel ready!

Hi flowergirl, thank you for sharing your experience! It never occurred to me to go ahead and schedule it and see how I feel - I can see your point. I see my OS this Tuesday and will definitely discuss. Thanks again and CONGRATS on your new hips!

I scheduled for both hips when I scheduled for the first one (horrible waiting time if you don't schedule early). I had my first one on September 30 and am having the next one tomorrow. Was originally scheduled for November 4, but they moved it up. I just want all of this hip stuff behind me and to be able to schedule my life around something besides my pain.

Keep me in your prayers and thoughts tomorrow, please.

LeoRuby, I had a particularly rough time as my signature indicates, but I asked my OS how quickly he would replace the other hip... 3 months he said... but time, work, life got in the way and here I am coming up to 2 years and should really go ahead, but now once again life is in the way... Go ahead, do let us know how you go with your OS on Tuesday

Poppet - good grief you DID have an awful time of it - I'm so sorry you had to endure all of that!

I totally understand about "life getting in the way" - I would like to know if and when you DO decide to schedule yours. I'll keep ya'll posted about mine as well. Thanks for sharing.
