Tillamook Cheese

Been to country fairs in the middle of the summer or farmers markets where the local farmer guy was seling his stuff with this cheese that was sitting out all day. He spent all day cutting of chunks of cheese and handing out the sampleas with a little piece of his homemade pickles. Bought it, ate it, survived it. Don't have the Tshirt though.

My father is from an area in N. Alabama called "Rabbit Town" I say "area" because there is no town. Gat, it's outside Albertville now.
When I was a kid and we visited, the only store was an old country store at an intersection. I remember being scared the first time we went inside. Several old men in overalls sitting next to a wood stove.. It was dark and I'm not sure it even had electricity.
They had a "cracker barrel" with the biggest salted crackers I've ever seen. A huge "hoop" of cheese, and a big dill pickle barrel. Nothing remains of the store now.

We're probably the only country in the world that refridgerates cheese and butter.

The reason they made cheese is to preserve the milk prior to refridgeration.

It is better at room temperature..I just got into it. It is darn good..A little bit at a time though.
But a question for you cheese experts...It does say on the package to "Keep Refrigerated".

OK but in our defense, when those fancy foreign countries cheese makers make their cheese, don't they let it age in dark COOL caves wrapped in cheesecloth and wax?

Are you a cheese snob? This stuff is good and I'm sure it won't be around long enough to go bad so I'll leave it out..under orders from Miss Patti.

You haven't eaten cheese (or risked you life for the tee shirt adequately) until you buy the Mexican white cheese out of the back of the guys trunk at the Mexican meat market on the south side of Tucson son Saturday morning. It is the best, creamiest cheese I have ever eater and on a tortilla fried in butter it is ab-so-lute-ly to die for and if you get the wrong cheese you might. I stopped buying it after a scare here about 12 years ago where some people got some bad cheese, now I buy the stuff at the Tortillaria that is in the dairy case all wrapped up. And last did anyone watch the special on tv last year about the cheese that is such a delicacy that has these tiny little worms eating the cheese and pooping it out which is what makes it such a delicacy they said? I almost lost my lunch and they were eating it like there was no tomorrow. Guess I am just not much of a risk taker. Rowdy

Rowdy, is the Mexican white cheese the kind with worm pooP?

I saw that program with the worm poop cheese...I've had some strange things in my mouth but I think I would have to beat someone real bad for serving me that cheese.

Yeah but as I've told my son, cute girls can make boys do anything!!

That does not surprise me.... I buy it at WinCo for much less than in Tilly--- but isn't the factory a cool place? And it is good cheese, no matter where you buy it!

I taught in Tmook for 4 years, but commuted from Lincoln City (45 mi. away) because I didn't want to move to Tmook. It can be very, uh, aromatic around there. When I commented on it--- a friend said "money---- that is the smell of money"

Yeap on the factory is a cool place comment.

Was an expensive trip to Cannon Beach. The road sanding media ODOT uses along Hwy 30 between Longview and Astoria is the size of mini pea gravel!!! I am in the process of getting my windshield replaced in my new 08 Highlander. Typical Toyota "its back ordered" will be 3 weeks if I'm lucky to get one. The Toyota's parts distribution center stated they have 130 orders in the queue so far and only 25 in route to fill them.

Had the same thing happen with my 06 RAV4. It took 6 weeks to get a windshield (had fine scratches that only showed up when you were driving into the sun)
