MUA Tigz's Lessons in Patience

PT bonus today: stitch removal! OS called me a stitch spitter, they're still popping out!

Thigh was hurting enough that I took the full dose of the pain meds after lunch so I was very talkative at PT, to anyone and everyone. Managed to even walk out without my purse. I guess it would've been no big deal if I left it, since I'm coming back tomorrow.

It was a good session, I'm not sure if I should "blame" that on the PT, my attitude, or the drugs.

ROM 115, extension 2. I'm impressed! I thought I might've lost a bit of ground, nope!

Time for a nap. Zzzzzzzzz

How often do you have to see PT now tigz ? I am so glad that's over for you. My PT was saying that I should have a better ROM at 8 weeks- kind of mentioned that I should call my OS and let her know that I am only hitting 95-100. Man, what's wrong with that? She gave me some stretching exercises to do over the weekend to see if I can get past this stiffness- even mentioned the dreaded MUA word to me...heck , I thought I was just a tortoise and going slow, but doing ok. Guess I'll call on Tuesday after the holiday.

So no pedicures??

Alas, no.

But he did help me scrub the YES off the surgical leg and the NO off the other leg with alcohol wipes (I did think the NO was a little silly...I mean it wouldn't have taken much to bend that leg, ya know? The anesthesiologist made his own mark which I understood because I didn't need my right leg numbed! ).

It's every day for two weeks.

Doesn't the PT send reports to the OS? I know both my home and outpatient PT folks did/do, but I'm not sure how often.

I hope you come by your ROM the natural way, but I've been pleased thus far with the outcome, even with the inconvenience of quad pain.

l heard a MUA was like going back to square one again,?is there any truth to that?

@sabbath there is truth to that, in a way, but I'm looking at it from another perspective. At nine weeks out, I won't have that initial jarring pain I had from the TKR. I was on a walker yesterday since I had no feeling in my TKR knee, today back on the cane, a little gingerly because of my screaming thigh (when unmedicated)..and the OS said that should be better in a couple of days. If the knee hurts, I can't tell, the quads have superseded any knee pain if it's there.

I am very pleased with the ROM, it's helped my mood tremendously, because I've managed to stay the same the last two days, stretching through the quad pain.

I think I'd call it a slight setback instead?

It's sounds like you are doing great after the dreaded MUA. I bet your thigh soreness will be gone in a few days. That's wonderful that you are getting all that PT now. Keep up the good work!! You are inspirational to all of us.:ok:

thanks for the reply,,l am afraid l will have to have it done,,not looking forward to it at all,,76 ROM at 10 weeks, not good huh? Believe me l will be following your post,,l wish you a quick recovery

@Kansas Teacher ,MUA ,,that word scares the byjeepers out of me,what bothers me more is my good knee woke me during the night hurting,Does it ever end, lol,,gotta to laugh about it what else can you do, a coward dies a thousand deaths a warrior only once,,

Yesterday before bed the quads hurt quite a bit, I suspect the fact I took a nap in the evening and missed a round of meds didn't help. I did manage to sleep through the night.

Day #2 post MUA - when I got up I dangled the leg over the side of the bed to gently get the ROM and wake the thigh muscles up. The quads didn't really start complaining until after I did some stretching, waited 'til then to take the "as needed" med. (The script he gave me said Tramadol - 20 pills - but the generic from the pharmacy is the generic hydromorphone, substituted for Dilaudid. Color me confused!)

I totally forgot the doctor's office would be closed because of the holiday so I put in a call wondering if I could get more of the pain med for over the weekend just in case. That was a no go. The On Call said I could take Motrin with the Aleve if need be. He said the muscle pain should be mostly gone in another two days. I'm mostly concerned with PT today. The quad pain at the moment isn't too bad, but I don't want the pain to impede the bend.

The knee itself really doesn't hurt too much. Maybe it would hurt more if I wasn't feeling the quad pain?

@tigz.. have you been icing that quad? I would do that and take motrin round the clock...( I thought you could only take motrin or Aleve..not both) make sure you eat something with it. I would ice every chance I could get. Take Tylenol for the pain every six hours, too( just make sure you don't go over 4,000mg in a day). This is just the little hurdle you have to get over... the light is coming for you at the end of the tunnel. Should be here by Sunday!!

@bluejuju been icing the quad when I've been icing the knee. For some reason this office does not like Tylenol. I thought the same about the Motrin and the Aleve.
Going to be as judicious as possible with the meds.

I was worried how the PT would feel on the thigh today, but I walked out of there today feeling much much better than yesterday...so maybe before Sunday it'll feel more normal!
