Hip Infection* THR Take Two, 2.5 years later

I guess you could use a very long straw to breathe......

Setting this up a day early as per @Layla's advice. Yikes. Down to hours now. 6:45am on Sept 10th is when I'm due at the hospital.

So, it's still the day before the surgery and my lovely wife just brought me a cup of tea. She is taking off work for 2 weeks to nurse me back to health.
Sooooo, here's my question
.
.
.
Which will be better to get her attention to bring me stuff? A little bell or an airhorn?

Elsinore,
All the best tomorrow, looking forward to hearing how it is going.

Here are the Hip recovery guidelines, the articles are short and will not take long to read.

Hip Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary
2. Control discomfort:
rest
elevate
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these
5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

Pain management and the pain chart
Healing: how long does it take?
Chart representation of THR recovery

Dislocation risk and 90 degree rule
Energy drain for THRs
Pain and swelling control: elevation is the key

Post op blues is a reality - be prepared for it

Myth busting: on getting addicted to pain meds
Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery. While members may create as many threads as they like in a majority of BoneSmart's forums, we ask that each member have only one recovery thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review history before providing advice.

Neither! Haha :heehee:
Say "Hey, beautiful, I need a favor."
Don't be a nag either, lol.
Allow her to set you up and leave the house for a few hours here and there.
She may need the reprieve and it will be good for both of you.
I'll bet you do great!

Heh Heh... I read your response to the bell vs airhorn question to Anita. She likes it @Layla. Anita isn't the type to suffer fools... which begs the question...

Wishing you the best with your surgery,,, Elsinore. Know it will go well.

I had an Anterior LTHR and my hubby has taken time off work as well to help me out, bless him. It sure is nice to have someone else at home with you, isn’t it.

Well, let us all know you’re feeling after the surgery.

All the best...:hugzz:

You and Anita will be dancing in no time :happyfeet:
Hope you get in a few winks in tonight
We'll be in place waiting for a thumbs up :thumb: when you feel like communicating.
Wishing you all the very best!

We got a set of inexpensive old-fashioned walkie-talkies. And they were great!! We live in a 2 story home and never know who's in what room, these were very small and we put them on one channel, hubby kept his on all the time, and with him at all times. It was one of the better ideas we had for the recovery! Cell service is spotty where we are so it was the most practical solution.

Best of luck to you tomorrow - it's an amazing feat what these surgeons do to us while we slumber.... :)

I'm 10 days behind you for my number 2.

Wishing you the best during your surgery tomorrow. You will do just fine. Let us know how everything goes.

Best of luck!!!!

Congrats! Woohoo, you did it :yay:
Take those meds on schedule and ice like it's your job! :ice:
Hope your night is comfy and peaceful.
@Elsinore
