THR teenager hip replacement after SUFE

Hello bonesmart family! Sorry it’s been so long since I last dropped in to say helloooo. Jaz is doing amazing and hasn’t had any problems since her op, her scars are fading and conversations about her hip are becoming infrequent. Sams also fine with no signs of any of the problems jaz went through so his pins can stay put. He did break his ankle jumping off a wall last year but has fully recovered from that now too.
Jaz is applying for universities - yikes! She wants to study photography and is keen to expand this.. I’m not ready for her to leave and might just follow her in my camper van and stalk her.
Have had a few chats with eva’s Mum who I met in here. Not sure if she posts on here but Eva had her hip replaced by the same surgeon in Exeter and is currently recovering at home with her mum.
Hope you are all doing well xxxxx

@jasminesmom So lovely to hear from you! What a great update! Gosh - university already. Go Jaz! Please keep in touch.

Wonderful update, glad hips are no longer the main topic in your kids lives.

Hi jasminemum. So glad to hear Jasmine is doing so well after her operation. Can't believe she is talking about university already. Dylan has also had his hip replacement 27th June 2018 and so far so good his leg length is now equal which is amazing. The recovery is slow which is frustrating Dylan as he has had enough of it all now and after a few days away he has been experiencing a painful ankle when ch is worrying him. Although we have been told it's to be expected due to lack of use for 2½ yrs.

The emotional roller coaster we have been on as a family is still continuing but we have more good days than bad now which is good. We still have adaptions around the house to help Dylan and he now walks with the aid of one crutch. How long was it after surgery that Jasmine was walking normally?

I think we were expecting miracles but have been told recovery can be 6 months. Dylan is 16 soon and is getting so frustrated and depressed with the situation although he understands it's a long process it is getting to him and us. Thank you all for your help and support

@FiFiTrixy @jasminesmom its nice to talk to people who have gone through this also.

Michelle Dylan's mum x

@Dylansmam Depending on how long Dylan limped around pre-op it can take up to a year or more until he feels "normal". Is he icing that ankle?

It's good you have more good days than bad. Maybe if Dylan keep a log of how he is feeling on a daily basis. Noting down milestones reached and new activities added might help him see this was a good move. He'll get there! Still very early days!

Just read your whole thread, wow what a journey , but heart warming reading your last post. What a great group this is. So much relies on getting good information, good support as it's all a mind field, especially for anything out of the norm. Good luck for your futures xxx

Thanks jacey I have just shown dylan your reply, we are currently sitting in the hospital waiting for our consultant 5 weeks after operation. Dylan said he will try the ice pack and a diary all advice helps xx thank you x
