THR Tashia's Hip is in Recovery, WOW!

Re: New hip 13 September

Jaycey, Can't sleep, because i am so upset over not being told to get a new pair of shoes or inserts. I had injured my feet long time ago now i'm concerned that I have hurt them more by not having the right type shoes or inserts. You would think the surgrey would give this information on the hand outs they give you when you leave the hospital. Not even the PT have said anything about this. I think is Very sad not to make sure your patient doesn't get as much relive as possible. I hope I didn't cross the line of the bonesmart rules. I do respect my surgrey very much but this information would of helped me greatly and would of saved me a lot of office visits to find out why am i still hurting so much. Not saying that i wouldn't had to go and see him but i sure would of given better change not to have more problems with my feet. I already have enough problems with them without anymore.:doggieshmooze:Tahsia:sigh:

Re: New hip 13 September

So sorry you are not able to sleep Tash and that you are having shoe problems.. Do rest up, it sounds exactly like Jaycey said - a lot of walking...

I read in another thread somewhere that if you exercise for like 10 mins, you need to rest for quite a while after that.

I am not doing very much walking at the moment, because I know my body is trying to get used to standing up straight instead of all bent over... Maybe it is the same for you?

Anyway hon, I do hope you are snoozing now xx

Re: New hip 13 September

Re: New hip 13 September

Hi Tashia,

Glad you are resting today. We still need a lot of it at times, especially after a busy day. I'm also getting new sneakers after reading all the posts about new shoes, it makes sense and mine are pretty well shot. Hope your day of resting was a great one!

Re: New hip 13 September

:ThankYou:Diane, My day of rest has helped. My feet are better, my knees are better too. My right is still tender but it better that yesterday. I went thou my shoes and all but two are going out. I still need one to be able to go out and get shoes and the other is dress shoes and I only worn the a couple of times so i wil keep them. You want to hear something stupid. I forgot that two days ago a soda bottle fell out of my counter and hit my left foot. The one who hurt the worse. I check it today and I have a lump on the top of the foot. No wonder that foot hurts the worse. I had completly forgotton about it until yesterday. I still see my spelling hasn't gotten better. The fact that I didn't get out today I feel a little down but i will be out next week sometime. Take care. :doggieshmooze: Tashia:friends:

Re: New hip 13 September

Tashia,

Got to tell you I don't care one bit about your spelling, I care about YOU! No wonder your foot hurts, ow, a soda bottle is heavy and I'm sure it will take a while to heal, maybe some ice will help with the tenderness and soreness. I live 24/7 in my sneakers and orthotics, even to work. My podiatrist actually wrote a note that I had to wear sneakers to work. I am lucky as my workplace has never had an issue with it even though I need to dress somewhat professional. I always wear slacks so they don't show that much. I actually had to wear sneakers to a wedding this past summer. I tried a few pair of shoes but almost fell in all of them so it just wasn't worth it. We are getting snow tonight so I am thinking of you in a much warmer climate. Maybe I will retire where it is warmer. Keep the faith, we have to keep on keeping on. Pain meds for me so now sleep, nighty nite.

Re: New hip 13 September

Hi Tashia
Been working all week again, but am taking time to do some posting this evening. I see you are still having some problems with your feet. I also have to figure out what to do about my feet. the side of my right foot hurts today again. I will take my orthodics with me to my next PT appointment and see what he says.
Dropping a soda can on a foot does not help with pain .
Sorry about the apartment but maybe it was for the best. Now you can get a dog. They sure are great companions. I have three dogs and would not want to be without them. The days that I felt very down, I kept all of them in the house with me. It sure helped.
Take care and hopefully other shoes will help you with your pain.

Re: New hip 13 September

Thanks for the posts. i couldn't believe that I had forgotten that. Well they do say that drinking soda is dangerous for your health. I guess their right because it dangerous to even have it in your house. :th_heehee:today was a lazy day, in fact I just woke up from the second nap of the day. My knees do feel better and so does my feet. I really wore myself out. I had a class yesterday morning on pain and I found sitting wasn't too bad but i did get up and the person didn't mind one bit. Thank goodness. Take care. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Thank You for fixing my title if that is what it called. I feel better when i see it.:doggieshmooze:tashia:yes 4:

Tashia, they don't tell you things like get new shoes because they have not been through the THR process. These are things we have learned from experience.

Glad you are feeling better and getting some rest. Take care!

Jaycey, Because I feel so good. I spent the whole day without shoes and the swelling in knees and feet are down almost 75%. They also don't hurt because the pain pills are now working. My hip is a little tender to the fact that yesterday I didn't walk and so the hip wasn't in the right place but now it does feel its wear it belongs. Also my posture is so much better today. with my bad foot going bad i really panic and was really in a scary place. the only way the foot could get better if it went bad again was to have it broken and put it back with screws and pins. Thats one of the reason i retired from what i was doing. I didn't feel it was worth the risk to have this done. I'm sure better surgrey has come along and maybe something else could be done but if you can avoid it why not. Thanks so much there are no words that express how much this information means to me. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:happy dance:

Hiya Tash

Ouch! I can feel that soda bottle... That would have really hurt a lot.

Yes, leaving of the shoes for a few days works wonders around the house. I think it is because your foot finds it's natural contours to the floor, it can spread and you can actually feel the floor, if that makes sense?

But do please be careful that you don't slip on any slippery surfaces, best to stay on carpeted floors honey :)

I am glad you took a few naps today also, rest is Sooooo good not only for the healing but for the soul, big hugs xxx

I just got back from getting a new pair of shoes. I hope they will be the solution I am looking for. The strore had a machine that measures how much weight you are putting on each foot. It showed that most of my weight is on the left. That would explain why my left foot hurts so bad also why my left knee is hurting. I did get some inserts that are different than the ones i usually use but I will have to wait a couple of weeks for them so I also got some that I can use now. I did notice when i had them in the shoes my hips felt better and also my knees. I will take the print out to my doctor next week so he can see how i am walking. I was very pleased almost all the weight of the feet where even, so thats great. I was told that your feet touch the earth first so it keeps you grounded. But if the whole foot isn't used you body isn't walking straight and you can have knee, hip or back problems. So the replacements are in the right way I just need to get so I can walk without pain in the knees and foot. That is so good news. Now to break in the new shoes and inserts. I do hope this is the solution. I will get another pair so I can change shoes. I had forgotten that you are not to wear just one pair all the time. All the other shoes are going to the trash. Question how often are you surpose to get new shoes? Sandy I think you said every six months. I hate to go shopping so this will be a chore for me.. Well I feel a :sleepz:coming on so :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Hi tash
So pleased that you have had such an intensive evaluation of your feet, excellent honey.
I didnt neccessarily mean you have to buy new shoes every six months, just check yourself, for example are my feet sore some where eelse now... More about keeping an eye on the progress of your feet, for blisters. Corns or sore spots. I am posting this on my new phone so sorrry if it is a bit vague.... More later, lots of love, sandy xx

Thats ok. My daughter would get a kick out of it. She is always after me for getting shoes. Her comment would be something like this;"How many years has it been since you brought a new pair?" I have always been this way with shoes because I love to go barefoot. When people enter my house I have a sign that says Please remove your shoes. Now what I found interesting is the first time I went to my daughter house I found the same type of sign. I said" what the bit with the shoes?" and she used the same excuse I used. She is in shoes less than I am. Runs in the family :th_heehee:Now if I find something that for sewing I have no problem buying it. When trying on the new shoes I noticed were the soda bottle feel didn't hurt so it is getting much better. This week I get to sign up for sewing camp which is quite a long away but the size is limited. So you have to move on it. A whole week on sewing and since it right by a lake you watch sunset all week. What a wounderful first trip after surgery. Well I better stop and get my new shoes on and start breaking them in. Take care my friend. :doggieshmooze:Tahsia:friends:

Hi Tashia, one thing my orthotic (shoe insert) maker said is that you should never have to "break in" new shoes. Shoes should always feel comfortable when you first try them on. It they pinch or hurt in any way, try another style or size. Of course if they are just stiff then getting used to them can be needed. Hope they do the trick!

Jaycey, I have the new pairs of shoes on now. They do feel very good. How every I was told I was to break in the inserts. Now after saying that I usually forget about wearing them for a hour then take them out. Once they in I usually take off and forget about them. When I took a short walk I did notice I was dragging my right foot a little. Have to pay more attention to that, have had this problem before so nothing new. I did notice my knees were tender this morning so today I will take a easy. :doggieshmooze:tashia:yes 4:

Tonight my knees are even better. My one knee is not hurting at all and the other is tender. It also rained today so all the real pain could have something to do with it. I do have a busy week working on the apartment so we will see how the body does. I still find I am sleeping a lot. Today pain didn't wake me up for a change. I do know that being in pain is also very tiring so just for waking up in a postive day made me feel great. The forcast for my area is calm at the moment and maybe rain in tomarrow, my joints can't make up their minds:th_heehee: I think I commented on the quilt show it was great to see some people I knew. However i didn't get see anything I wanted but I did find trying to put some fabic together to make a quilt with the stuff I have. I have sure been thinking about a dog. I did have one offered to me at the show but I was concerned it was too big for me and the apartment. But it sure got me interested. and more time to set aside to get the apartment ready to welcome a new member in my family. I like one around 20 to 15 lbs. So I am thinking much about it. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:flowerysmile:

Can't sleep again tonight. This is happening by mind is having trouble turning off. I hope everyone is doing fine. I am a little tender. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:sigh:

Hi Tashia,

Still have nights when I can't sleep, I just try to go with it and nap if I need it during the day, but usually after a night of no sleep I sleep really well the next night. Hang in there and try and have a good day. Always remember...rest is still very important, even during the day. Take care.
