You are part of the double hippy squad and sound like you will be a wonderful success and inspiration to those who come after you. Stick around, youll get this forum figured out:yes:

@Mojo333
Thank you for being patient with me :). My problem was that I was doing everything on my phone. NOW I realize there is so much more I could be doing!
I so appreciate you, all of you. It's been a rough weekend and I haven't had a chance to think about my hip, just running back and forth to the hospital and comforting friends who have suddenly lost their husbands (two in the last 3 weeks). But the hip has no compassion. Today I am back on oxycodone and resting...at least til I have to go with my husband and take my daughter to see her surgeon this afternoon.
This has been a bit of a tough season. So grateful for prayer and a God who can carry it for me. I have a verse that gives me so much comfort and strength...
"Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly of heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light".
I hope it gives you the strength it gives me. God bless you!

They say He won't put more on us, than we can bear.
A few times I've looked up and said...Hey, I think you have more faith in me than I do in myself!

Hard to deal with Anything else when we are early in recovery from TWO hips being replaced.
You are a super hero, and will soon, if given time to heal, get to continue dealing with life...except with good hips!:praying:

At 5 1/2 weeks! Started PT. Exercises are pretty simple. Doing the recumbent bike and lots of flute things, marching in place. Going twice a week. Left hip feels great, right is sore. Some tiny punching pain in front. But I had tons of problems with that hip before surgery. Walking is still the best thing. I walk with a cane, alternating sides. About 3/4 mile a day. Doing ice religiously.
I may try to sleep on my side tonight. We shall see!

Hi @Storygirl
I love the verse you typed a couple posts up. You sound really content with your recovery
and it seems you're doing well. I'm happy for you. I keep forgetting you're one of those bilateral brave souls.
I hope you're having a beautiful weekend in Cali. and I wish the best as you continue healing.

One month down.:yes!:
Good luck with that side sleeping.
I wanted to do badly and then when I thought I could, I wasn't comfortable...but not a back sleeper.
Just was a bit of a struggle.
Hopefully you will be better at it than I!
Now I can sleep any old which way.:happydance:
Great Job taking all slow and easy.

Very curious to hear from others...
1. What are the dry best exercises you’ve found in early (first 3 months) physical therapy after THR?
2. How soon after surgery did you swim and how did it help you?

Sorry, I meant”very” best exercises. :-)

Thank you Layla.
Doing great! I’m walking about a mile and a half a day now. I find taking long strides when I walk really helps me. I still use a cane but carry it VERY lightly. Feeling good overall. I just don’t sleep well, not sure why. I did sleep on my side last night tho - yay! Off the oxy, just take Advil twice a day.
The weather is gorgeous here in L.A. and tomorrow my husband and I are driving to the coast to have dinner and watch the sunset. It’s our 30th anniversary️

Hi @Storygirl

You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread.
For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here.
Don't worry that we won't see your question because, between us, the staff read all new posts every day.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.
How to tag another member; how to answer when someone tags you

If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

Here are the instructions on finding your thread, How can I find my threads and posts? . Many members bookmark their thread, so they can find it when they log on.

Happy Anniversary! Thirty years, that is wonderful. Driving to the coast to have dinner and watch the sunset sounds so romantic. I hope you have a lovely time and wish you many more years of happiness.

Sorry you're struggling with sleep. Consider Magnesium Glycinate:
It promotes healthy sleep (falling asleep and staying asleep)
Supports muscle relaxation and nerves, bone health, healthy blood sugar and cardiovascular health.
Here is an article from our Library -

I hope you soon begin to experience nights of peaceful restorative sleep!

Happy Anniversary to you and dear husband.
The sleep all night thing was rather elusive for me too.
Just hard to stay comfortable...everything wanted to move:shrug:
Things do improve with time.
Hope your weekend was lovely...just came back from the coast. Sunburned and happy.

Hi guys. Thank you all for your anniversary wishes. We had a beautiful dinner and walk. :-). We walked along the beach. I held tightly to my husbands arm and walked VERY slowly. I found next day I was very very sore. Perhaps from 3 hours driving or 3 hours sitting or the walk. Not sure but still wouldn’t trade it. I’m doing good, still having trouble with the right hip. I think it’s IT band related because it goes down to the outside of my knee and hard to put weight on it sometime. It’s always good when I just wake up. Switching to a harder bed tonight to see if that helps. Hopefully it will help The stiffness I feel after sitting for more than half an hour. I write for a living so I must sit but I am slow getting up. It actually feels like my back is more stiff than my hips.
Question-How long before you can get on your knees or on the floor. I wanted to lay on the floor last night to help my back-but I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get up!
Still walking. Just doing a mile a day. Feels like progress has slowed a bit. Love to you all!!

Oops sorry @Layla. I think I may have put this on the wrong thread. Meant to put it on mine ...Yikes!
It’s because I’m on my iPhone. Much easier on my computer.

No worries @Storygirl
If you mean your latest post # 38, you got it right since this is your thread.

It's wonderful to hear you had a great time. I'm not surprised you're sore though either.
Driving a distance (sitting) then sitting again as you dined is a lot of sitting. Car rides beyond 30 minutes were very difficult for me for several months. So no surprise there. Also while walking on the beach, if you were on the sand, our gait changes. You mentioned you were hanging onto hubby tightly. You may have been tensed up a bit. That's exhausting in itself.
Certainly wouldn't let this little detour ruin the memories you made. I'm sure with lots if icing and some rest you'll quickly be back to where you were, pre outing. I don't know what to advise on getting on the floor this early. My gut says no, but I'm not bi-lateral either. You don't have a good leg to stand on, so to speak....that's yet anyways. Maybe @Mojo333 can comment on that....

Best wishes for a great weekend. Thanks for the update!
