TKR ski_bum's Recovery Thread

Knee pain could be IT Band.
PT and massage can help if this is the case. Good luck!
@shr
Yes, I am having massages and using a roller myself.
As in my first surgery, this helped with the pain but the IT Band pops when I walk. That knee is not painful, just weird feeling.
Surgeon wanted to do a revision placing a button under the knee cap, I said no way.
I am waiting to see the referred Surgeon for his opinion on the X-rays & nuclear scans.
Thanks for your comments.

Went to bed last night with some peace of mind.
Had a full night of sleep, not even a bathroom break until 05:00 AM. Normal get up time is 5:30.
I have been referred to another Orthopedic Surgeon and in the mean time my family Dr. has order WBC C_PR tests first of month for 3 months.
He believes infection will increase white blood cell count.

Then 5:30 AM, checked my emails and received the following from a former Doctor.
Donny,
You can’t rely on bloodwork - it can be negative with focal osteo-myelitis. You need a definite diagnosis and that can mean a biopsy of the area. No, you shouldn’t take antibiotics without a definite diagnosis. Do consider a second opinion with an experienced orthopedic surgeon.

ALL I CAN DO NOW IS WAIT FOR 2ND. ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON'S OPINION!

Oh boy, what a roller coaster that I wish you weren't on. No words to offer up except to say we are here for you and let's hope you can see one of the suggested surgeons in Washington.
Keep the faith, maybe this will get resolved in a good way.
I'm just sorry I can't say something more profound, it's rare that I am speechless. :praying:

I'm so sorry. I am sure this feels terribly unsettling after the more uplifting news of yesterday. I hope you don't lose faith that this will all work out. Possibly the second opinion will offer you reassurance again. Prayers you get an appointment soon and a firm diagnosis so you're able to move toward resolution. :prayer:

@Layla Thank you for your comments, prayers, they help.

We had a quiet but very nice Christmas.
I start my monthly Blood work 2 January and see a new Surgeon January 13th.
(Lucky Friday 13th.) to deal with possible Focal Osteomyelitis. Fingers crossed.
Thank you Layla.

@Layla,
Thank you so much. It helps.
I will post as soon as I know something.

Good Afternoon,
I had a great visit with the new Surgeon this morning.
He had time to listen to me, address all my questions.
He worked both my knees, pointed out the difference in how the muscles have rebuilt.
He reviewed all my tests, x-rays and does not feel I have Osteo-myelitis but has booked me into the Hospital to have fluid removed from my knee and tested on the 18th. January.
While working my knee he found the point where it is causing pain.
He had a Physiotherapist work my knee and he said the pain is the muscle where the third point of the IT Band is attached.
Hope it all makes sense.
So if the fluid removed from the knee test okay & some physio on IT Band should be pain free.
Both my wife and myself were impressed with the difference in Surgeons.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I'm so happy for you that you had such a good experience with the second surgeon. Fingers crossed his suspicions are correct and easily dealt with so you can put this pain behind you.

Wonderful news! I'm sure you're feeling relieved, but naturally waiting for the all clear after the procedure on the 18th. I hope by this time next week you've received good news and have physio scheduled to work on your IT band to resolve the pain.
Have a nice weekend!
