My appointment is the first week of December. It was supposed to be earlier, but he was going to be out of town -- I got bumped back instead of forward. I'll let you know what he says. I'm pretty sure he knows anything high impact is not to be worried about with me! A nice slow walk is more my speed.

Hi Sissy, I love your posts! My doctor has said no high impact activities for one year. Prior to surgery I was CrossFitting about 4-5 times a week. I have found that I really miss it a lot. He said that I could return to it at the 3 month mark but no running, jumping or heavy lifting. He is very ok with the lunging, rowing, squating, step ups and light lifting. So this gives me something to look forward to. I have been skydiving a few times. Bought the pictures and the videos so I have no desire to do it again. Several of my kids are talking about going ziplining at Gator World around Christmas time....hope my doctor will clear me for this. Will have to wait and see.

Hi sissy,

'I've always wanted to try snowshoeing, but haven't had the opportunity. But I am thinking about trying Nordic walking, like Poppet does'

Have you checked out the article I posted in the Social Room regarding Nordic Walking.. Quite comprehensive (even if I do say so myself :) )

Not so sure about the thought to do zip-lining, Christmas is only five weeks away, still early days for you hon!

:yay:Great Sissy, no more restrictions, I know you are thrilled. The picture with the baby swans is right below the seal picture, I also have other though too, we only names one of the babies Archie jur as he was grumpy like his father.

darn!; Thank God we do not have snow yet, this picture was from last year.

bellaroma, no snow yet...that's great. Does your area usually get a lot of snow?

sissy46, how are you doing this weekend? So happy to see that all your restrictions are now a thing of the past. That must feel very liberating. Can't wait to get there myself.

Poppet, a girl can dream :tada:

Cookie, I'll be so interested to know what your doctor says. I noticed Puddle Fish has been turned loose from follow-up for ten years! I wonder if that's normal in the UK. I go back again in 3 months, and then (I think he said) it will be 6 months and then once a year follow-up forever. Such different instructions and experiences we all have.

Poppet, if I had you nearby, I know I'd be trying Nordic Walking. There isn't a meetup group yet for that, although there are now 2 of us interested. For now, I will be taking leisurely hikes with my trekking pole, camera and binoculars. The article on NW was very interesting, as was the video. Thank you.

darn!, you know I have lived in central Florida most of my life and have yet to go to Gatorland? Have you been before? I haven't even been to Animal Kingdom out at Disney in at least 15 years, and I'm hankering to get out there again. Funny how when I couldn't walk more than half a block without excruciating pain, I got to thinking about how much I'd miss being able to go to those places. I don't know much about zip lining. Don't you just sort of sit there as you zip over the gaping jaws of the alligators?

Beth, can't you do your shopping on a weekday? Shopping is going to be a mess from now till January...but if you can get someone to push you in a wheelchair...but really, you'd be safer kayaking.

Okay, I'm outta here for now. Going to farmers' market and then I need to load my canoe on the car for paddling tomorrow morning.
Later gators! :bicycle1:

Yes absolutely got to keep those future dreams alive after all this is what we go through such major complex surgery for isn't it? To be able to get back our quality of life darn! Keep the dreams coming babe [Bonesmart.org] Sissie's recovery

bellaroma Now I see the baby swans! I must have taken them for ducks at first glance. They are really cute.

Got my little solo canoe on the car for tomorrow---nearly did a Mary Poppins over the rooftops of the Public Storage Units it is so windy and the canoe only 25 lbs. Tomorrow will be my first time since September 20 in my favorite boat. So excited! A friend and I are going to a creek where we frequently see otters and deer and even the occasional black bear. I'm taking the camera, of course.

I'm either being lazy or sensible, but I'm taking it easy and reading the rest of today since tomorrow will be 4 or 5 hours of paddling, then going to relatives' house for early Thanksgiving dinner.

sissy46, yes, you get strapped into a harness and you zip from one platform to another. And, yes, it takes you right over the alligators. It is a lot of fun. I think you would enjoy it. Fantasy of Flight, right there on the I-4 corridor is another hidden jewel. They too have a zip line. Although theirs goes over a lake.

I was thinking of you today when the sun came out. How was the farmer's market? That's one of the things I love the most about Florida...all the fresh fruit markets. Of course, a trip to the fruit market is not complete without picking up some Cajun-boiled peanuts. Yum!

How was the canoe ride?

Tammy

darn! the canoe trip is tomorrow, and I can't wait. Lots of good stuff at the farmers' market, and I ran into the sweetest guy in town, my big brother. And yes, the sun did come out:)

Now about this zip lining---any impact with that?

sissy46, there isn't any real impact at all with zip lining. You are suspended in the air, so there is nothing to it when you stop. You just put your feet down. The girls and I are looking at going zip-lining on Spring Break up in North Carolina. They have some amazing zip-lining attractions there.

It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day here today. I really enjoyed the weather. Today reminded me of why I left northeastern Ohio 18 years ago and moved here. I love it! It is so easy to throw on a pair of shorts and t-shirt to recoup in.

Have a beautiful evening.

Tammy

darn! Zip lining sounds safe, easy and fun. I say go for it! Where do you zip line in NC?
I'm planning a summer trip to NC this coming year, since I'll be able to go on some reasonable hikes. My brother and his ife have a summer home up there. As much as I love paddling and biking, the biggest thrill to me right now is being able to walk again. Although I also have some spine and knee concerns, I think I'll be able to enjoy it if I don't go for the steepest trail, the highest peak.

sissy46, Good paddling today, toch land ever once in awhile to strech, just not in front of a black bear, :shocked:Your hips will be in a different position than in the kayak, so go slow and tighten those glutes

darn!, Wow can you shop, I tend to be like Sissy and avoid shopping, but you have turned it into a science

darn!; I can understand competition, even playing a board game I am out for blood, even broke my toe playing a friendly game of ping pong, that 1 has always been a little embarrassing
The snow where I live is fairly moderate as compared to ski area, if I snowshoe I have to go to Western Massacusetts or New Hampshie or Maine

Oh now there's a story we need to hear (read). How exactly did you break your toe playing ping pong? I'm laughing just thinking about the possibilities. A person needs to have some thick skin on game night at my house. I can whip some butt on our Wii. No whiners allowed.

I had a great but really long day. We paddled for over 4 hours without being able to get out and stretch, which was not ideal, but I did okay. My friend has a GPS and said we only paddled a bit over 7 miles, half of it upstream, but we stopped a lot to look and take pictures. We saw deer, hawks, ibises, wood storks, great blue herons, little blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, wood ducks, alligators---no otters or bears, and no other paddlers. Motor boats not allowed on this creek.:yay:

The canoe is not as comfortable at this time as my sit-on-top kayak, if I'm going to be paddling streams that don't have good places to stop. The SOT allows more position changes---I can even stretch out in it if I need to.

I just got home after an early Thanksgiving dinner, which was lots of fun but now I feel like I'm about to go into a food coma, like a manatee lying on the bottom of the river.

Today I only took ibuprofen 200mg early this morning, and another 200mg before going out to dinner---would probably not have taken that one if I hadn't been going out. No pain sitting here right now, but when I get up and walk I do have that tightness and a little sore for the first few steps.

Overall, I am happy with how I feel after a long, busy day. I can hardly keep my eyes open, and so I hope I will be able to sleep more than the 4 hours which has been typical for me the past few nights.

I hope everyone had a good day. Off to bed, perchance to sleep:sleep:

sissy46, I am so happy to hear that you are doing so well. It was a beautiful afternoon here in Florida. I love nature and am jealous as all get out by your activities. I am looking forward to getting back to the great outdoors once I'm all healed up. I hope that you get some much needed rest. Have a great night and I will check in with you tomorrow.

Tammy

Wow, what a great night's sleep!!! Best in weeks. The canoe is still on the car and it looks like another beautiful day, so I just might....

darn! Thanks for the zipline link. I just took a look at it, and I'm interested in the one at Blowing Rock, as a friend has a condo there and my brother's place is about 45 minutes away.

bellaroma Tell it, sistuh, tell it! How'd you break that toe playing pingpong? The imagination runs wild, and Tammy and I are waiting for...The Rest of the Story:heehee:

:loll: bellaroma, now Beth, if you had said that you broke your toe during an energetic game of beer pong, I might be able to understand, but ping pong? Come on now, don't be shy, tell us...we won't tell anyone.

sissy46, that's great news indeed! A good night's sleep does wonders doesn't it. Hey, you might as well take advantage of your canoe being ready to go. Having it still loaded on the car and ready to go seems like a waste not to use it. Have fun and happy paddling!
