Hi Shawnna

Hope the rest over the weekend helps. As someone previously said pulling something behind one can cause a twist.. It is a very fine balance as to how to manage all the office gear we have to take with us.. I am still on restrictions, so took everything into my office first, spare Walker which I leave there for my long walks at lunch time, two sticks.. So I have a back up aids in my office..

I appreciate that my scenario would not work for everyone as I get dropped off and picked up, but maybe there is something similar that you could do to prevent the possibility of twisting... So sorry honey that you are in pain :(
xxx big (((hugs)))

Wow - I never imagined that using my rolling laptop bag would cause a slight twist! It makes total sense now that I think about it. I sure wish I had thought about it BEFORE doing that though.

The pain in my butt was much better today. (hehe I just loved writing that for some reason!) I did the stretching outlined in the library article last night before bed; took a nice hot bath and was able to get a very good night's rest.

Of course, being able to work from home today helped as well!

Monday will be six weeks post op and I must go back to work full time, five days a week.

Definitely going to need to psych myself up for this.

Good to hear that the pain is subsiding Shawnna. Would you be able to use a flash drive to carry files back and forth or do you have to carry the laptop? Could you use something like a small pushcart that could hold your crutch and laptop and act as a walking support for you?

Hi Shawnna... been reading your thread and glad to hear you are doing pretty good. You just have to be careful not to push to fast (trust me I'm the Queen of Inpatience). One thing I did learn (among the many things) is that you can rub your butt without fear of breaking loose a blood clot.... heheheee! I guess you had to be there.

Nice to meet another American (although I love all my Brits and Aussies). I'm in the North East.. Pittsburgh PA.

Thank you Z - I've never minded being the butt of a good joke! :thumb:

And thanks for the kind words and idea Jen - I'm afraid I'm going to hold off making any more medical device purchases right now. I've got a walker that saw minimal use as well as a pair of crutches in the same situation. Of course they will come in handy when I go for hip #2 - hopefully well over a year from now if all goes as I hope!

((((hugs)))) Sandy - always full of good advice and uplifting thoughts! :friends:

And of course Jo - yes it does all add up. I can't wait until next week when I'm commuting and working full time, five days a week! Just hope I don't set myself back too far! :rolleyespink:

LOL Lisa - just read through you thread and now I know what the "rub your butt without fear" means. :loll:

(((hugs))) it's always nice to meet a wonderful new friend who can relate to the challenges of having a shiny new hip! :thumb:

Ooh Shawnna! I do feel for you with the piriformis pain! Hopefully it was just a passing thing because of dragging your laptop bag around on wheels, and doesn't become chronic. I first got it about a month before my THR, in the other buttock. Worked out what it was by looking on the internet (wish I'd known about the Bonesmart library back then!) and told my physio who confirmed that's what it was and gave me some exercises which involved lying over the dining room table on my front, with a cushion under my pelvis and pressing the thigh of the affected leg into the table. When I saw the link on your thread I took a look at the exercise Jo recommends but find this quite difficult as my good hip (ie the one that's waiting for THR no. 2) isn't exactly super flexible. The trouble with piriformis pain, for me, is that it comes and goes, doesn't seem connected to any particular movement or position, so it seems hard to avoid, once it has set in. Jo says rest and pain pills - well, I had 4 weeks of rest, but the wretched piriformis keeps reminding me that it's still there. Sounds like you caught it early, Shawnna, so you have every hope of dealing with it before it becomes chronic.

Shawnna I found out about the dangers of using a rolly carrier accidently. I have back issues and had not traveled in awhile. First trip after spinal surgery and I could hardly move the next day. I realised that just that slight twisting aggravated everything.

If I use any wheels now I roll them in front. But do be careful of the weight you are carrying as well. For a new hip that is sometimes a challenge!

Good luck next week. Stop by when you can!

Hi Shawnna,
I also went back to work at 5 weeks after my first thr and its a tough thing to do. Its great you took off a little early from work, do that as much as you can.
Sorry to hear about that muscle, hope it settles down for you.
Hang in there, sounds like you are doing great.
Best of luck!

:cry4:

First day back full time and it was simply awful.

Nothing has been accomplished in the six weeks I've been gone and it's even more dysfunctional than ever.

That combined with a nasty interaction I had with the VP and honestly, I'm ready for hip # 2 and both knees to be done just so I don't have to deal with this stuff.

/rant off

Truly................... I need a real career doing something I love; not something that I've found myself doing because it pays my mortgage.

How the heck do I do that at almost 58?????

Hi Shawnna

I am so sorry that work is being difficult. The corporate politics are so energy draining that is for sure.. The way I approach it is to say... No one is dying here, and will it matter in 50 years time...

I think part of the issue for both of us (I went back full time this week) is that we feel cornered, because we don't have a choice... It is very difficult to stay positive under these circumstances.

Just remember that you are your number one priority and look after yourself honey... Love your emoticons :)

As always, lots of love
Sandy xx

It doesn't make it right, Shawnna, but a lot of people do what you describe...whatever it takes to pay the bills. You're not alone.

I hope it gets better for you...at least make sure you are enjoying and getting recharged when you leave there each day...

Calling Shawnna.....

Just wondering how you are going?

I know you are doing it tough, being back at work...

Just wanted to check also how your son is doing?

Hope you are able to rest when you get home each evening. If you are sore, try and elevate and ice any swelling, or use heat packs if there is no swelling..

Hope to hear from you soon xxx

Hi Shawnna,

Thinking about you and hoping all is well. Please update when you can, we miss you.

Hi Shawnna. I do understand where you are coming from, i find myself in that same position with my job. Its unfortunate! Keep your chin up sweetie, sending much love and support your way!!

Hi Shawnna!
How are you doing?
Don't let the turkeys get to you...
Your light & Love shine thru for sure!
I hope you are getting some rest with all you have to tend to...
Love & Blessings,
Laura

Hello Shawnna, if you really aren't happy at work have you considered taking on a franchise , I've been feeling the same as you recently and have started to look in to franchise opportunities. They don't all involve spending a huge amount of money and if you choose the right one you could find that you make a reasonable income and actually enjoy what you're doing at the same time . I don't know what your interests are but I'm looking in to a few ranging from a couple of photography franchises to pet sitting (organising it not doing it myself) and selling organic dog food . I didn't realise until I started to look on the internet just how many options there are out there. Its just a thought . I hope you're feeling better anyway, look after yourself

I'm here still.

But I'll be reading, rather than posting.

Thank you all for your heartfelt support.
