THR Seeing the Light!

:wave: @lovesstars Popping by to say hello, sending positive vibes and hope the paper white bulbs arrive soon! So lovely to have blooming flowers inside on grey days! Thinking of you and hoping today is a good day :flwrysmile:

Thanks @Alitm and @Bevlah ! Thanks for popping over and checking in!

Today is sunny and chilly...and sunny!
I took a Lyft to meet a friend for coffee. She revealed to me some pretty personal stuff and my head is reeling! (Thankfully my head and heart and not my hip!)

Home now to process it all while icing!

Yikes!
Hopefully it serves as a distraction and you're able to advise or console without it adding any weight to your recovery.
Keep in mind the flight attendants demonstration of putting on your own mask before trying to assist others.
I hope today is a good day for you!

@lovesstars When people select someone to whom they're willing to confide their most deeply personal info .. it's usually because the person they choose is kind, caring, non-judgmental, open minded and wise enough to offer vital feedback on the issue. I'm sure once you process it all you'll be able to offer your friend comfort and perspective!
Have a beautiful Thursday, we have sunny clear skies here too.

@lovesstars couldnt help but be concerned about you. I cant believe you dont have an advocate from the hospital or insurance plan. I was released from rehab yesterday. I had 2 days of pain meds :yikes: and needed a weeks worth of bloodthinner. This morning i had visiting nurses come in as part of my aftercare. She got right on the phone and called my surgeons office. I was blown away! MA has really vamped up their control on pain meds & i thot that i would have a similar hastle. I reduced my home dosage from 2 to 1 mg and it was not fun but the Ice helped greatly and getting up & walking a bit helped as well. My health ins rep just called as well to follow up! Im sorry this was so late for you. I learned from my LTHR that the Dr's Protocol that i got upon release from the hospital is sacred and should be read by the patient ASAP. I am sooo relieved you are heading in the right direction. Hope you now have the support you need -- medically & personally.:ice::angel::console2:

Glad to hear you ordered some flowers to plant, @lovesstars. That will feel very comforting, I think, to plant lovely flowers that bloom in a time of year when it's dreary and miserable. Or maybe you just "force" your bulbs inside? I confess I have an odd aversion to paperwhites which unaccountably smell like vomit to me for some reason. I thought I was crazy but a friend in our neighborhood actually has this weird reaction as well. I've been given them as a gift before--they are truly sweet and lovely flowers--but the smell made me ill. Doesn't sound like that is a problem for you, so fun waiting for and then planting/forcing the bulbs and pretty, fragrant flowers in the months ahead. PS glad to hear you finally got your meds--ah, those frustrating hoops we gotta jump through!

@Barbaraj yes, I am forcing them inside. It is unfortunate that you have such a reaction to the flowers. I guess I can’t sent you any, then. Shame!

Hi, @lovesstars. It's only paperwhites that I react badly to--love most flowers, and their scents, too. I love the scent of roses, peonies, and Freesia, and that sort of thing. Wish I could grow them. My two rose bushes have major mildew and black spots and I think I lose most of my bulbs annually to those pesky moles...grrr...

Hey :wave:
Hope you're doing okay these past few days.
Just stopping by to wish you a nice weekend!
@lovesstars

Hi @Layla and all.
Thanks for popping in!
Yesterday I felt really good and did a bunch of house puttering.

I was asleep by 10:30 and slept until 8 am which is basically unheard of in my world. I think the activity yesterday was tiring for my body (even if it was just in the house!). I moved slowly...didn't take my first pain meds until 9:30 am and elevated my legs...which basically were aching all morning. And I was so, so tired, still (that must be the energy drain you talk about). And HUNGRY (I am building bone, I guess). And cooooold. BRRR. We had big fat snowflakes coming in bursts all morning. It wasn't even in the forecast!

Now I am getting ready to go to the dinner and the play. My fingers are crossed.

Oh -- plus -- I emailed the PT about swimming and going up and down stairs using both legs to lead. He said I could start both...but he also said that he expected that the operative-leg-leading stair walking would cause me a fair amount of fatigue and I should not be surprised by this. As such, I didn't start doing that because I am saving energy for tonight's adventure.

While I was half-dozing under blanket, head-to-toe in wool with legs elevated this afternoon, I watched "You've Got Mail" which I have seen about a million times (or maybe just 11, I forgot). It is just like having an old friend nearby. Husband is teaching today so comforting movie was awesome.

I also watched the Badger football game. And yeah, we beat Illinois while players were slipping and sliding on snowy field.

Oh, @lovesstars, curled all in wool and watching old movies, sounds like an absolutely perfect afternoon. Enjoy your dinner and play tonight. PS I find I can carefully come downstairs, one leg and at time, but when I have tried an ascent, it hurts so I’ve backed off. Sooner or later it will be okay—time is on our side!

Glad you got some decent sleep last night and some R&R this afternoon.
I had that crazy snow burst biz this morning also. Now it looks beautiful outside, blue skies, sunshine but cold and windy.
Have fun at dinner and the play!
@lovesstars

Glad you are making progress. Doing stairs normally was tiring but it did all work. However my naughty muscle played up so I had to go back to the previous method for a bit. But there is no doubt doing the stairs does help strengthen things! I can’t wait to drive again so I can get myself to swimming pool. Between 9 pm and 10 pm it is very quiet there. Used to do 24 lengths plus and now will be hard pushed to manage 1 but it will all come back :-)

:flwrysmile: Happy Two Month Anniversary! :flwrysmile:
Hoping you had a nice evening out with the play and dinner.
Let us know how you handled it all. Some of those events can be tiring in early recovery.
I hope you have a lovely Sunday and great week to come!
@lovesstars

Hi all.
It is a bit tiring even to write this.
I avoided it for hours.
But here goes.

Please excuse the length.

I went to OS this morning for post-op. First a resident examined me. Then OS came in with resident and another young woman standing at computer on wheeled stand, taking notes on my visit.

OS told me that they were cutting me off all pain meds, that I would have to conserve what I had left because I wasn’t getting any more. He told me I could swim and bathe. He told me that people only need PT for psychological support. I told him that in this case I appreciate him approving me to see the PT since the exercises he gave me had helped me.

When he told me I wasn’t getting any more pain meds I got a little choked up. I told him that I was afraid that I was going in be in pain I wouldn’t be able to manage. He said “yep, we cut everyone off at 8 weeks”. Then he said to me “it seems like you are having a psychological problem accepting this” (I suppose because I was a little choked up). I told him “Please don’t use that word anymore. I am fine” (“Psychological”)

I told him that his PA had told me that they expected a longer and more protracted recovery because of my AVN and he told me “That is a messaging problem. That is not the case at all”.

Just then, the young woman/nurse/assistant who was typing notes started lurching towards me and the wheeled computer cart was running into me...I realized that she was losing consciousness. She fainted on top of me.
I grabbed her onto my lap and a few seconds later the resident came over and put his arms around her and helped her onto treatment table. She had lost consciousness for a few seconds. She came to, apologizing. I told her it was fine...I told the OS who at this point was kneeling next to her that he needed to take care of her and I left the office.

I was so shaken by my visit that I tried to think of what I needed to do next. Well, I thought, I suppose I need to swim and I went to the local sports store to get a functional swimsuit in my current size (a little bigger than normal). I came home, changed and went to the gym. I told them what I needed (not a competitive swimming situation) and they directed me to a smaller, warmer therapy pool where I could do kickboard laps slowly without a crowd of people. I swam for 15 minutes, 10 laps with kickboard, no pressure. Got dressed and came home.

What a day, am I right?????? Such an odd morning!
