Sounds like the pro knows what she is talking about..:) nume2014. I am a bit concerned because I hear its hard at first and I am getting both my hips done at the same time. I don't see too many people on here that have done that. It is my first day on this site so not sure how to maneuver from ipad. But glad I found it

Can any of you ladies tell me what your pain was before surgery? I have high tolerance but lost mobility and can't stretch very well. oS said I am bone on bone. I'm not as active as I was before in fear of pain, but still a bit unsure when I should go in. I always seem to have better days right before I am ready to schedule surgery.

Hi pink24,
I feel for you with your sickness. I suffer too, when you can't eat, feel giddy etc not good. I was discharged with highest does of paracetamol with codeine as and when needed. On the first night I took the codeine and the sickness/giddyness came back. The next day I did not take the codeine and to my surprise the paracetamol was good for the pain on its own. I usually love my food but recently it is a problem finding something small enough too eat i.e. a pot of yogurt is huge! Everything is such trial and error when I think we would all love black and white!
Look after yourself. I am sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Karen

Hello Catdemar,
I would say I have a high pain tolerance level too. I was bone on bone too with a phobia about medical intervention - not a good recipe! I put it off as long as I could little by little my activity had decreased over about 4 years. I was walking less and less (maximum 10 metres), finding it hard to sit down with out a groan, not able to reach to bottom drawers, could not go shopping and holidays became where can we drive to and from. If I had not had the op a really believe that I would have been in a wheelchair soon.

One night I woke up and decided I was going to make the choice to have my hip done and I stuck with it much to my surprise. When I got near surgery my hip "got better" too very strange. I dealt with my fears through relaxation/meditation tapes and am now 7 days post op.

All the best in your decision making X

Lots of water, fiber, prunes, stool softeners, and as a last resort a laxative. Constipation is worse than the surgery! As long as you're taking pain meds, this can be a real problem.

Boo. It can be like that but dont worry soon it will be ok. Sheeeesh im talking to a lady about toileting. Bruises will keep appearing i looked like i had been thru a mangle. Its part and parcel of the whole thing. It does get better just takes a wee bit of time. Prunes can help btw. Take care

Warmed up prune juice! I know sounds great.....not.... Well really it's not too bad
Here is one of my favourite quotes I found many years ago I love it,some hate it.
"Sometimes it's not about what you like or what you want to do, but it's what is REQUIRED!"

Waking up with someone else's leg attached to your body was a shock for me too
Welcome to the other side!

You system is just in shock from the surgery. Plus meds make things slow down a bit. Lots of water, prune juice or prunes and veggies. This is very common - here's the thread about it from our Library Constipation and stool softeners.

@pink24 Happy Birthday I hope you are having a great day. You already received one awesome early present.... Your new hip!

Oh didn't know. Hippo birdy pinkers

Okay tackled a shower today with the help of my daughter lol we did have fun but we learned a lot for my next one lol, had a nice birthday and pain meds are less only 2 cocodimol 2 times a day and ice packs looking forward to doing a little more each day. Heel slides are still difficult but im managing to move my heel at least. Eaten quite a lot more than yesterday but nothing like a normal appitite yet drinking a banana and strawberry smoothie to help loo and also vitimins and natural sugar feel better today than yesterday no sickness at all. Hope NuMe2014 is doing ok my hip twin stairs getting easier too thanks for the birthday wishes x x

Hi @pink24 - Happy Birthday! Just catching up with your post op thread - so happy to hear that you're through surgery and progressing. . .I can assure you that each week will be better and better. As everyone says, the first 2 weeks are generally the hardest - just an aside, you had surgery on my sweet husband's birthday - has to be a good omen!
Continue to rest, ice, and be good to yourself!

Happy birthday....so glad things are improving for you...
First shower is great, isn't it.... X
