THR Sbgal THR Recovery Journey

@Sbgal ---You've had suchhhh a rough recovery, I hope things improve for you soon! (( hugs))

**You already said you don't have the room for more furniture nor someone to help you
set it up. But, I wanted to let you know that the website magsmom posted actually sets it up for you! :) Maybe you could get rid of something to make space for a comfy recliner?

Thanks for all of the encouragement guys. The giving way feeling is gone (I guess) but I have had a big setback. I was feeling SO GREAT last Sat 10/9 which would have been almost 4 weeks the following Monday 10/11. Well I literally tripped on my cane. I don’t know how it happened but somehow it got caught under my foot on my non surgical leg and I landed on my surgical leg. That wasn’t terrible but right after I was walking down a steep driveway at my apartment complex and slipped on some gravel on my surgical leg. My leg slid out really far in front of me and I had to sort of tighten the muscles in a weird way to stop my leg or I would have done the splits. It hurt so bad. I’ve been in pain since then. Resting icing yadda yadda. But I’m so bummed I was like almost at the point where I could sleep without pain and was getting around really great. I’m set back by at least a week pain wise. How does someone get their cane caught up between their legs? Oh yeah that’s right. Me. I do. ‍♀️

Good grief! Not one but two accidents! I'm sorry to see that you've had such a rough time lately.
Have you called your surgeon's office to let them know and to find out if you need to follow up with them?
I hope you can take a few days and go back to Recovery Square One and baby yourself. Take it really slow and easy, with your pain meds as necessary (with your doc's permission if needed).
Sending healing vibes and mojo your way.

@Sbgal So sorry this happened to you! ((hugs)) I did a weird slip and fall with my first THR and sounds very similar. Mine happened when the THR leg slipped on a wet floor and like you it went out in front of me, like forward splits. Hurt horribly and I actually went to the ER to have a film taken.. All was well but I hate to tell you this but it took several weeks to have it back to where It had been previously.
I tell you this so you don't worry if this is a nagging pain for a while. Maybe you will have a better story, especially since you are due for a break from it all!

Hopefully you are icing and resting that leg..
I never fell but I recall getting tangled up in my cane a couple times... are we sisters??

P.S. that hip is totally and completely strong and wonderful now.. you will be able to say this too! This is a marathon, right? Lot's of ups and downs.

Wow! A double whammy, when you do it, You Do It!
Hey, kidding aside, accidents happen and it always does seem they happen when we’re feeling apprehensive to begin with. Thankfully you weren’t seriously hurt, or didn’t suffer a dislocation. Hopefully with some extra rest and lots of icing, you’ll be back to where you were in no time.:fingersx: Wishing you comfort and speedy relief.
HAPPY ONE MONTH ANNIVERSARY!
@Sbgal

Well it could have been worse, that's the only way to look at it. You didn't dislocate and you didn't mess up the implant. Now it's back to the icing chair to calm all of that soft tissue down.
Walking with a cane is no easy. My OS really didn't recommend one, would rather see a hiking stick than a cane. Is your cane adjustable? Might sound foolish but there are some youtube videos on cane use and cane adjustment so it's easier to use. Since you've got some time on your hands might want to watch them.

Oh that’s so funny you did that too. And I’m glad you told me it would take longer to recover from it. I’m still on my cane and it’s been almost 5 weeks. I’m super bummed I’m not further along!

when is everyone done with a cane? I still can’t walk without one without pain in the front of my hip. It’s not like pain that I need a pain pill. Im off of those. It’s more like I just can’t walk on it yet because it still feels painful and weak when I do. It will be 5 weeks on Monday. Is it normal to still have a cane?

Totally normal - and why aren't you taking anything for the pain. Tylenol may help!

Absolutely normal and could be something you feel for most of the year.. it takes the soft tissues much longer to calm down and recover that the bones.
My first hip was smooth and easy, yet the second hip was more like yours and I forget exactly, but can say I was definitely using my cane up into 8 weeks or longer.
the front of the hip pain remained on various levels for many months, up to a year or more.. it wasn't horrible, just annoying and caused me a few niggling worries along the way.
It eventually healed and recovered but patience is key in those early months.

Pain and a cane re pretty normal at 5 weeks. Keep in mind you had a setback this week so you actually rewound the tape a little.
