Wow! Sounds like you are making great progress! Don't you love hearing good reports from your dr?

@Jamie Thanks for making the switch. Haven't seen you post anything about yourself and your husband recently. I'm not asking you to or implying that you should have, just wishing you both the best in the coming months. Gentle hugs all around.

@Legin, falling then frolic, or frolicking in the fall. Well, I guess that's for me to know and you to wonder. ;)

Don't you be flirting with those tension headaches. They just might follow you home.

Glad you are doing so great.

:wowspring:Great report! Go for those stairs! You can do it!! When you start forgetting your cane, it's time to leave it behind for good! Or until you try something really scary and "need" it for security!
Big hug from the mtn!

That's a fantastic report about your OS appointment and progress, SarahJane! You're doing so well - congrats!

Well, I had a small little flirtation with the Over-Did It Club today. :(

I went to church for the early service where I was an assistant for a K-2 class. I ended up moving and stretching a little bit in ways I hadn't done yet, and ended up propping up my leg on a trash can toward the end of the class. I sat down on a sofa, elevated and iced during the social hour, and then elevated and iced in the rear of the church for the second service. People were happy to see me, and I ended up doing more standing and talking than I was really comfortable with. I was able to sit down and talk a bit again, but got caught standing again while waiting for the friend I was going to lunch with to finish talking with people. I was waiting near the outside door while she went to the bathroom, and she got caught up in conversation on her way back. After a few minutes, I was getting really uncomfortable, so I said "I need to sit down." They continue to talk for a while longer, so I repeated in a louder, more demanding voice, "I really need to sit down." I didn't sit down, because if I did who knows how long they would have stayed talking, and I was really ready to go.

I probably should have skipped lunch and just gone straight home, but I was anxious to visit and catch up with her. Live and learn. I cancelled my evening plans, and am elevating and icing as I type this.

Full day! But, it was a good one! You knew the answers and did what was needed as the day progressed. Icing and elevating are my answer to everything! Take it easy tomorrow!

It's funny how standing still can be so uncomfortable. I think I prefer walking to standing in one place. Sounds like you had a good day anyway and got to catch up with people. That's always good and makes us feel almost normal.

Good for you for stating you needed to sit, its the old invisible pain syndrome people look at you looking fine and acting fine sonyou must be fine. Standing does hurt as it takes a fair bit of energy to keep your body still and its same muscles working all the time. Hence when standing still we constantly move about but with us each movement is felt. You are doing amazingly well and you have it right, that is enjoy life but realise what you are capable of.

Interesting to know about standing using so much energy, @Legin.

I had a good report from the physical therapist this afternoon. My extension was 0. Which is great as I'd been working on that. It had been 5 the last couple of times it was measured. My flexion was 112, about the same as last time. So I'm going to do just a little more work on the flexion. The physical therapist wouldn't commit to me getting to 130. He did say I'll probably get to 120 or 125 once the swelling goes down in a few months.

I showed up for the appointment without my cane. Once again, I forgot to take it with me when I left the house and didn't remember until I was half-way there. He said my gait was good, and that I probably could do without it. I *do* plan to take it with me when I go to crowded places, etc., more as a visual signal to keep people to from bumping into me.

Wow - wonderful news from your OS and your PT! You're doing everything so well, and keep reaching more and more mileposts in this marathon :) Once I stopped using the cane, I would bring it with me to the grocery store, because invariably someone would bump into me with their cart (or collide with me with their motorized cart) and it does seem to give people pause. If they bump into someone they shrug it off, but if they hit someone with a cane or walker, that brings it to another level.

Sometimes it doesn't matter if you have a cane in crowded places. People can be so intent on getting to where they want to be that nothing will stand in their way. Not even a 280lb woman with a cane, as I experienced at the ball game. I need to use my cane because of my back but I could probably do without it at work and at home.

I have been told to use the cane as foot onside and dodgy hip on t'other side. Anyway I leave it all over the place notably the stuoermarket. But I have to admit I do walk better.

Congrats on your progress! You're doing very well!! Those canes do have a way of becoming "lost" and forgotten, don't they? I take mine along in the car as my security blanket, but rarely take it out anymore! One more step ahead!! Yeahhhhh! :yay:
