I looked at your link for adult playgrounds, @Widget1. Gotta say, it looks kind like an outdoor gym to me. I guess we *do* need to work on our balance, don't we, especially since we don't want to do anything to jeopardize our new knees.

Thanks for the tempting and tantalizing taste teasers, @Thesoutherncook and @KarriB. They both sound so yummy. But just one slice please, and don't fall for my impassioned please for seconds and thirds. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. Is German apple cake like (oh so yummy) German apple pancakes? I've never had pumpkin crumble cake ... sounds wonderful. And both are healthy. After all, apples are fruit and pumpkins are vegetables and we need 5 a day of fruit and vegetables. So maybe I could have seconds of each. :D And don't forget to save some for @kneeper!

I'm afraid I might be putting on weight, though, believe it or not, from all the times I've dined on saltines and bananas. It must be the salt. Somehow I'm not able to just eat one or two saltines. All that white flour. At least they're not oily like chips. Very disappointing, as I was initially loosing weight because I had absolutely no appetite. So I guess I should be lobbying my local park authorities for adult playgrounds, right, @Widget1.

Thank you one and all for your reassurances that the blues are normal, and that they don't last. Your care and support means a lot. I'm so grateful.

Thanks for the extension exercises, @Celle. And thank you for telling me your leg dangling extension exercises, @Thesoutherncook.

Are you a Dr. Who fan, Celle? You people down under have to wait until the early hours of the for BBC simulcasts of Who, don't you? So I shouldn't feel *that* sorry for myself.

I had no idea that @cairistiona60 had started a Dr. Who fan thread in the Social area. Guess I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to check it out. Spoilers, sweetie, and all of that.

I used to follow Dr Who, but I haven't for several years now.

cairistiona has asked on the thread in the Social Room that people don't post spoilers, or else that they give a "Spoiler Alert" so people can avoid reading the spoiler if they don't want to.

Yes, we do get Dr Who here in NZ, but it's often months later. It's scheduled at a reasonable time of day for us.

Hiya SJ you really are doing fine. If you need to do measures don't he real life measures of what you achieve. At your time line so many only managed to get out a few times. Re weight it is but a wee blip as you do more it will dissapear and you will have less time to munch on those delictable morsles. Re Dr who stuff I always watch them on catch up TV as when they are aired I'm always in the kitchen and have tunes going there. Also rest of family like to watch the hex errr x factor. Keep smiling lass and if I had a tardis and went a wee bitty forward there would be a very active SJ.

You are doing very well for your recovery stage. I think we all are, no matter what stage we are at. I am trying to ignore the fact that I am in pain constantly. I have good ROM but just can't shift the pain when I'm walking. Yesterday I went to the basement to do laundry then walked up the stairs normally. Boy did I pay for it later. We had a friend stay over last night and I ate way too much. I am what is called morbidly obese, lovely medical term that quite frankly I disagree with, so extra calories are not my friends. My husband is making breakfast and I'm lying in bed. I really should get up.

Haven't seen Doctor Who yet because of our friend visiting. I am avoiding Facebook because all my friends are chatting about it. I am spoiler free despite months of posts on Facebook about the new series. I hate being spoiled.

@SarahJane we will emerge from this battle with our knees, victorious and happy and healthy. Keep your eyes on the prize of no pain and freedom to run, skip and jump like a kid.

Finally managing to catch up on some threads. You've had quite a lot going on, haven't you? Like others have said, I think you're doing really well. Sorry to hear about the issues you've had, all part of this journey, I'm afraid. But things do continue to improve, even if we don't think they are. What did you think of the episode??

Walked over to a neighbor's last night to see Doctor Who. I tried my best to concentrate on my walking as @Celle and @Thesoutherncook suggested.

I had an injury to my right foot when I was a child, walking barefoot I stepped down on something and nearly severed my foot across the instep. (And yes, it was *quite* scary for me and my parents. I basically have no arch left. That's the same limb as my knee replacement. As far as I know, though, the injury hasn't affected my gait. I'll discuss gait with my physical therapist the next time I see him, and have him check me out.

It's been forever since I've had pizza, @Thesoutherncook, do you deliver? ;)

@Raffs, I was on the edge of my seat during The Magician's Apprentice (or I would have been if I hadn't alternately been elevated and doing some gentle heel slides and extension exercises.) Don't want to talk specifics, here, spoilers, sweetie, but I did so much love Capaldi's grand entrance, music and all. ;)

@SarahJane Good for you for getting out! My 14 yr old grandson is all into Dr Who. I have not a clue, but bought him a tshirt with a phone booth on it that he thinks is really cool! ( whew! )
Pizza delivery? SURE! Might be a tad cold by the time it gets to you! You come to the mtns and we'll make it together! Deal??
I "bottomed out" today.... Took a nap this afternoon with ice on my knee and woke up with a popsicle!
But, I have to admit, I feel almost human now! Guess we DO need to listen to our bodies!!
Have a good evening! Headed to the kitchen to start the pizza crust!! :spin:

Hope you are well, re gait don't do a Leginism I was concentrating of as close as I could do heel toe, heel toe, bus shelter oooooooooops. PS saw first episode of new series hmmmmmm so many big events all crammed into one episode.

Now that summer's turned to fall, it's time for a new title for this thread. How about Sarah Jane's Summer Journey and Fall Frolic? @Jamie or other Moderator, would you mind changing it?

I'm headed off to my OS appointment. Will let you all know what he says.

Title changed for you!

Sarah Jane I just read your post about your rom. You're doing great. Mine is still only 90 but a massive jump from 45 where it had appeared to have stuck!!!

You're definitely getting there. So many people say "patience grasshopper"... It's so true xxx

Well, my OS is quite happy with my progress. In fact, he's going to set for the 12 month anniversary of the TKR.

I'm to continue with physical therapy until the PT thinks I'm ready to be discharged. The OS said that might be in a month or so. Again, he just asked me to flex, extend, and walk. He just eyeballed everything and took no measurements. I told him I didn't really have any pain anymore, although I did have that bout with the IT band and occasionally my knee felt a bit arthritic (for lack of a better word) after exercise. He did check the stability of the implant by pushing against the medial side of the knee while it was extended. I passed with flying colors.

He does want me to do more walking, though. He thinks I can handle more than the 10 minutes the PT suggested. I also told him that I wasn't going up and down stairs like a grown-up yet. He thought I could handle that. So, on the way up from the parking garage, I led with my operated leg and then brought up my good leg to the same stair. 13 steps. Went OK. Think I'll wait until Monday's PT appointment before I try the 100% grown-up way of doing stairs. I still worry about the Over-Did It Club, and am conscious that my weight may add more stress to the knee than a size 8 body would.

>>> I think my body's already ready to try walking outside in safe conditions without a cane or walker<<<
>>>I've found myself walking off without my cane several times the last few days. Think my body's trying to tell me something!<<<

The other day when I was out I left my cane in the bathroom and had to turn around to get it. This afternoon, I forgot to bring it with me when I went to a different building in the medical center to get a flu shot. And I got out of the car in the Trader Joe's parking lot and headed off to get a basket before I remembered that I'd left it in the car. I decided to go ahead without it; it's a relatively small store and I could use the basket for support if I needed it. My knee did fine. Although by the time I was standing in the checkout line I noticed my jaws were clenched and I was just beginning to flirt with a tension headache.

So, in all, a good day.
