Good for you with the graduating from pt and being able to walk the stairs like a big girl. I am kind of jealous of your hot weather. I saw the dreaded snow word on our forecast for the weekend. Only 7mm overnight Saturday, but it's too early for snow.

It's wonderful that you have been able to help your friend. That is such a normal activity, I bet that for a few moments it made you forget about your knee. Helping others does tend to take our foucus away from our own pains and problems. You are a good friend!

I bought walking poles last year thinking that I would get out walking before my surgery but they have still not been used. I bought them from Amazon and they have rubber feet for Nordic walking but the feet are removeable with spikes underneath and you can use them for hiking as well. They are collapsible so they could fit in a back pack if you were fed up carrying them.

I hiked a bit at home in Scotland but only short trails and small hills. The scenery was beautiful though.

I see the OS tomorrow for my 12 week review. I will wait for two hours for a 30 second conversation where I will be told that I'm doing fine, that my pain is normal and that I'm worrying about nothing. Then I will go to my family doctor and get more pain killers.

Is it going to be a Blue Jays v. Dodgers World Series???

Poles are good for balance and confidence so my PT told me but offer little as support for weight bareing. Oh yes grand scenery here.

Thanks for the input about your experiences with Nordic and hiking poles, everyone. I had a talk with a friend who's an avid Sierra Club hiker. She says she prefers using a walking stick, as she doesn't like being without a free hand. On the other hand, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Right now, I'm home with a cold. :( When I feel better, I'll go to REI and check some out.

Holds mask over face---- OK hands up gibe me your money ---- loops wrong sort of mask...... Colds are a pain aren't they a really really hot curry prescribed.

Feel better soon. Colds this time of year is awful. Rest and chicken soup and a good book is my prescription.

Thanks, @Legin. And thanks, @Pescara.

I have definitely been sleeping and pushing fluids. Sleeping and drinking and powdering my nose and then sleeping some more. I'm too tired to read, Katie, but I did do an easy crossword puzzle.

Interesting that you suggested a hot, hot curry, Legin. A friend of mine and I are big believers in hot soups. Hot as in spicy as well as temperature. Same principle as hot, spicy curry, I imagine. I haven't felt like venturing out yet, and my friend is the one who gave me these germs during missions of mercy to her sick bed earlier this week. So I've been roughing it at home without won ton soup with extra sliced fresh ginger or hot and sour soup. Making do with whatever's easy in the fridge. Yogurt, cereal, fruit, veg. A sandwich. And lots and lots of liquids.

Maybe tomorrow I'll go and get something to go. ... writing about food is making me hungry! Of course, if you were to send me an excellent vindaloo, Nigel, I'd be gobsmacked. (And wouldn't have to leave my sick bed!) Homemade chicken soup would be welcome, too, Helen, and fresh squeezed Florida OJ, Katie. Christine, I doubt that poutine would make it without dissolving into a pile of congealed grease, but a nice pot of cock o'leekie has curative properties. ;) One can dream, can't one?

Hope you all are doing well.

Chortle, if food thoughts are in your head you must be on the mend. I'm making Thai red curry tonight num num

Is it going to be a Blue Jays v. Dodgers World Series???
While your Blue Jays are still in the running, my Dodgers failed to deliver in the clutch and will not be joining the Jays or Royals in the Fall Classic. I do think a Cubs/Jays series would be a blast to watch.

Sorry I can't get this to you in person, but maybe the "recipe" will suffice?! This is what I call "Sick Soup" and I make it often. It was originally Giada's recipe until I doctored it some! :)
1 quart Chicken Broth
Juice of 1 lemon
1 Bay Leaf
1 cup chopped celery and carrots
1 cup shredded rotisserie chicken ( optional)
Handful of spaghetti broken into 2 inch pieces
Bring mixture ( except pasta) to a boil. Toss in pasta and cook until veggies and pasta are done. If you have a rind from Parmesan cheese, toss it in, too. Sprinkle with Paremsan cheese.
If you like, add some grated fresh ginger for heat!

Big hug! Take care of YOU! :friends:

Thanks for the recipe, @Thesoutherncook. I never thought of adding lemon to a standard chicken broth. Sounds like it'd perk it right up. And keep me from coming down with scurvy! I managed to get out of bed long enough to feed the fish and the cat, and to make myself an open-faced cheese sandwich. Have two kiwis (Chinese gooseberries) for vitamin C, plus more of the vitamin water.

Sometimes I think the Dodgers have a post-season curse. @Rob 68, do you have ties to Brooklyn or Los Angeles? I generally don't associate Tennessee with Dodger fans. The boys in blue could have used you in the stands, rooting them on. That might have made the difference in game 5. LOL. Oh well, at least @cairistiona60's Toronto Blue Jays are still in the running. So at least one Bonesmartie's happy.

Hey Sweet Friend! Just stopping by to check on you. Feeling any better today??? :swoon:
I hope that nasty old cold has moved on out! :console2: And you're feeling human again!

Hope you're feeling better! The cold going around is nasty! Mine lasted one week and ended with a fever instead of beginning with one. Weird!

Thanks for checking in on me, @Thesoutherncook. I'm glad to report I'm on the mend. Felt good enough to go outside and spend 15 minutes in the pool walking and doing some exercises.

I went in the pool before I read your post, @KarriB. It sounds like you were really sick there, poor girl. I hope you're well over it now.

After I was outside in the pool, my cat, Rosie. and jumped down over the fence to watch me. She's done that a couple of times before. I find it amusing. I'm not sure if she's playing lifeguard, or if she's puzzled why anyone she knows would spend that much time in the water! When I moved from the pool to the hot tub she followed me, at a safe distance, well away from any possible splashes or drips. I've told her that there is a breed of cats that actually enjoys swimming, but she remains unconvinced.

Her full, formal name is Rose of Sharon, after a character in John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. She's a predominately brown tabby, with black markings on the head and face. She must have some Manx in her family tree, because her tail is only about 3 inches long.

Glad you are feeling better. The cat was thinking now that's a grand size fish yum yum

Catching a cold is just a benefit of first graders coughing and sneezing on you all day. It usually happens twice a year, because no one seems to teach their children to cover noses/mouths when sneezing/coughing. It was just weird to have the fever at the end, but I managed to just miss one day of school.
Very jealous that your able to still get in a pool. It snowed here in Pittsburgh yesterday.
