So glad you got your back sorted out, good friend to see you straight away, you really wouldn't have wanted that to be causing you a problem at the same time!! It's quite interesting that so many of us suffer with bad backs as well as our hips, there must be some connection? You are lucky, although that might seem a little perverse, that your hip is hurting just pre surgery to remind you just why you are getting it replaced. Both times for me on the week before surgery my hips decided to behave causing me to question my actions, thank goodness I didn't listen to myself!! :heehee:

Be careful what you wish for. The OS office was scheduled to call today to confirm my 1pm surgery tomorrow and 11am check-in. They often change things at the last minute. I was hoping that they would do it a little earlier and, well, they are. 7:15am surgery with a 5:15am check-in. At least they will all be fresh...unless, as Beth joked, the OS has a hangover!

marcopollo, Tomorrow is our big day! What a relief! BTW, I LOVE John Prine and Taj Mahal. ("I had the blues, so bad one time it put my face in a permanent frown. But now I'm feeling so much better I could cakewalk into town." - the great Taj) After my surgery, I'm going to get a new turntable so I can listen to all my fabulous records, including John Prine and Taj Mahal. Great way to recover!!!

marcopollo, OH, no! Now you're going to beat me! I'm also scheduled for an 11:00 check in and 1:00 surgery, but you'll be all done by the time I get started. Good luck tomorrow!

BeckyR >. Don't forget about the 3 hour time difference, tho, even with that I should be done by 1pm EDT. Well, at least I won have the morning to worry none. Not that I would. I am ready. Not nervous. But feel myself getting a bit anxious. Big difference. Either way...Bring It On!

marcopollo, Your new hip awaits! How exciting is this for you!!!! Bye Bye hip pain. Hello long walks and family play time!!! Woohoo!!! I think waiting for my new hip, was much harder than recovering from surgery. Sweet Dreams, and I look forward to hearing from you tomorrow! :dancy:

Nancy

Thanks all. We shall see if I can get some sleep. Will probably fall asleep 15 minutes before the alarm goes off at 4am. Cruel!

Bright and early start, it'll be good to get it over and done with and not have to wait until the later time!! Good luck today and good wishes to you

marcopollo, Bring it on is right! It is appropriate that you should have your surgery first, because you are the explorer, paving the way! I am so excited about this, for both of us. What a difference it is going to make! Fair winds and following seas, Marco!

marcopollo, Yes, it is, but you have to get up pretty early in the day to keep up with those Stanford doctors!

Skilled surgeon and a speedy recovery. Peace be with you

Oh man...what a process. Everything has gone so well so far. In by 7:15am...out of OR by 9:30am. Recovery room visit was a bit long cuz they couldn't find me a room. Hanging out in my room. Wife just took off to play with dogs (out in truck..what troopers) and then get some dinner. We have been up since 4am so she'll just go back to our stay place.

Got up and walked a few steps with PT an hour or so ago. Barely 8 hours post-op! Did pretty well..got light headed some (BP dropped) but layer back down and all was well. Pain is only 1-2...remnants of the spinal and OR drugs I am sure. Had oxy a few hours ago..can have more in an hour. I know...sty up with my pain meds!

I am just so thrilled with how things went today. I remember going into the OR, moving onto the table, the minor tinge of the spinal needle, a mask over my face for a while....then coming to in the recovery room. And that was a trip. The scenes on TV or the movies of visions and voices coming in and out are very accurate. Realizing that it was all over. No pain. Consciousness coming back. And this overwhelming feeling of joy and thankfulness that I made it thru, that all went well, and that the good times are coming!

I know tomorrow and the next day are going to tougher. More pain. More work. But for now, laying in my bed, quiet, relatively pain-free, checking in with my hippy buddies...well, I am a Happy Camper!

BTW, I forgot to say how much I appreciate all of my hippy friends here and how important your words, stories, support have been to me over these last few months. I think this is a BIG reason why things are going so well. I pretty much know what to expect (or the possibilities as we are all different) and that has made this so much easier. Plus the staff here at Stanford are the best quality people you could ask for. I am impressed.

But you all are the BEST...thanks....

marcopollo, to the "other side" and the wonderful world of recovery. You sound mightly chipper and pretty much together for a man under the influence:heehee:. You are not officially a "hippie"!!! CONGRATS! And now the fun begins.

Take care and post when you're able. We care. [Bonesmart.org] Right Total Hip Replacement - July 10th
