Sitting in the hospital waiting room for my Pre-op visit with anesthesia and all my lab work. Getting excited and feeling really good about doing this. Can't wait for 7/10!

You're nearly there!

Hi marcopollo. This is a great place for answers. MY RTHR is day after tomorrow :yikes: - but I think I have accepted it. Doing anterior approach with a Makoplasty RIO broken link removed: https://www.makosurgical.com/makoplasty.html and I have an hour to home. Not nearly as long as you. I agree that it helps to hear the real story from those who have lived it. :)

I am VERY impressed with the people and facilities at Stanford. Both PAs (ortho and anesthesia) spent lots of time with me and I never felt rushed. They answered most of my questions and were very patient and pleasant. I came out of the day feeling excited and ready to go. I think my hip did too as it has been really sore and bugging me...ready for replacement.

2 weeks from today!

Shadow09 > yours is today. Best of luck to you. Let us know how it went...when you can.

marcopollo - great news about your pre-op experience. It's so important to trust the experts. Surgery is there day job. If you feel comfortable about working with them it makes all the difference in the world! Not long now!

Got an ice machine from a friend (same one my wife used on her rotator cuff repaired should a few years back. I also met some one who is 8 weeks post op from the SAME doc as I am having at the same hospital. Great talking with her. She is doing SO well I am inspired. She even lent me her walker to use!

That's the key - sharing experiences does help in this process. That's why this forum was created. Only thing missing is the virtual equipment swap! :heehee: Sounds like you are really in the right mental space for this op marcopollo.

Had a great time at the Kate Wolf Music Festival last weekend (John Prine, Taj Mahal, Angelique Kidjo and more)...beginning of my last pre-op hurrah! Thursday on the river for the 4th then down to the City on Monday for my surgery next Wednesday. Next week. A week from tomorrow. Boy, I have been waiting a while to say that! Can't wait to say I'm having my surgery tomorrow!:happydance:

I am so pleased you are having some fun Marco.. Good to take your mind off the surgery, however, you are ready and positive.. Not long now :)

marcopollo, happy for you that now you're in the short rows (as we country folk say) and surgery time is just around the corner.

Take care and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] Right Total Hip Replacement - July 10th

Less than a week to go now marcopollo and it will fly by!! I'm just over 2 weeks post op now and really able to most things for myself. It's only things that break the 90 degree rule that I struggle with, so mostly to do with my feet but other than that I can dress myself fine, slowly maybe but I can do it. I'm probably a little more blase about my recovery this time, I don't use any help to get round the house, no cane or walker but I do take a cane when I go out, it's all ok and I'm coming on well and so will you.

Thanks Littlejem, you are inspiring. I hope to progress at a comfortable pace and do as much for myself as I can. I think asking my wife for help will be a challenge...for both of us. But we do accept the foot/sock thing! :-)

Less than a week now! But who's counting? Happy 4th to my US friends and Happy Getting Rid of US to my UK friends!

So, of course, I wake up Saturday morning to my back having gone out during the night. Tried to get things straight on my own but it was still sore Sat night (weed whacking probably didn't help). Woke Sunday to the same condition. After agonizing, I called my chiropractor (also a friend) and asked if I could see him first thing Monday on our way out of town heading down to the City for my surgery. He said come over now and we'll take care of it now. I did, and he did. Pretty amazing!!! That, then the hot tub seems to have done the trick. I was so afraid of going into the hospital with my back sore. Looks like I will dodge that one.

So, tomorrow morning we (my wife & two of our dogs) head down to the City for my surgery on Wednesday. Boy am I ready. Hip seems to be more sore last couple of weeks...I think it knows it is time. Actually it helps me to remember that this is the thing to be doing and now is the time. Not that I don't think that, but those doubts creep in regularly...usually when I am laying there in bed at night trying to fall asleep.

So the time finally arrives. I will keep you all posted as I will be bringing down my iPad and will post before and after, when I am able. And I have to remember, and give thanks, that I am fortunate to live in a world where this is possible, where I have good health insurance (most do not in the U.S.), and that I found this group for support and courage. Thanks all. Marc
