Good to hear things are looking up. =)

I think surgeries that involve bone also, always hurt more than surgeries that are just soft tissue.

PT just left . My extension is still at 3 but ROM is 121 . He thinks my OS will release me from home PT to outpatient PT after I see my OS Tuesday . The therapist says I am doing remarkably well .

Rick

You sure are!

Extension is now 1 . PT says that is incredible for less than 2 weeks, especially when it started out at 15 .

Rick

I didn't sleep we'll again last night but it was my fault . I got myself out of sync with my pain meds . It wasn't that I waited too long or anything like that . It was more a timing thing . I was planning on staying up longer than I did but the Olympic Opening Ceremonies got a bit too boring for me . Finally about 2 am I woke up and got back in time with my meds and finished the night out with decent sleep .

The home healthcare nurse just left and what drainage I've been having the last few days has almost stopped and almost all the swelling is gone . Remember, I am one who has not iced during this process and it has all worked out really well .

Looking forward to staple removal on Tuesday .

Rick

Yes, I agree, med timing is VERY important. The older I have become the more I have learned that. If I dont take my meds on time, I pay for it.

Getting those staples out will be great!

Keep up the great progress. =)

Although removing the staples doesnt "hurt", depending on your level of pain tolerance, it wouldnt hurt to take something about 30 minutes before they actually remove the staples. Getting the medical staff to give you some warning, will be your challenge.

It takes about 30 minutes to get to my doctor's office from home, then because he sees his patients himself, you never know how long you'll be waiting once you get there . I'll take pain meds before we leave the house .

PT just left . Extension is 0, ROM is 124 . He thinks my OS will release me to outside PT ( at OS's office ) because there isn't anymore to be accomplished with his visits .

Rick

That is great news!! =)

(So how does it feel?)

It'll feel a whole lot better with the staples out and the wrapping gone . My ROM would be better except the wrapping stops me from going farther . I'm feeling a little clunking down there today but my PT says that's normal . Pain wise it comes and goes mostly the inside at the joint . I've been taking 2 Vicodins at bed time then about 1 every 6 hours during the day . I'm saving what Percs I have for the serious PT .

In the BoneSmarties' Library, in the grey bar at the top of the webpage, there is an Article titled "Clicking/Clunking Knee Joint After Surgery" that is very helpful. I have joked around, since my RTKR, that it feels and sounds like I have a toolbox in my knee now. My OS' reply was: "Well, you do have a lot of metal in there now."

Good luck for "Staple Removal Day" tomorrow. When the staples are gone, it will just FEEL better - you will just know that was the right thing to do.

Staples out and steri strips on . Can shower Friday . Use walker 4 more weeks whether I want to or not to allow tendons to heal all the way . Waiting on PT to call to set up program of aggressive therapy 3 times a week .

Rick

.....and on Friday, that will be the best shower you have ever had! =)

No, no, no: You are not going to let the PT do agressive therapy on you! You are going to stick up for yourself! You are going to tell the PT: "I have these friends that have had tkrs themselves, and they told me........"

Don't get shook . His idea of aggressive therapy is going 3 times a week . Although he has been right on everything else . I haven't had the need to ice my knee yet . The swelling all went away in it's own . His mantra is movement reduces swelling and it works for his patients . He doesn't want his patients sitting over 45 minutes then he wants them to walk a few minutes . When I do set, it's in my recliner with my legs up .

It all works for me and I'm a happy camper . Very well pleased with my progress .

Rick

I can't start PT until next Tuesday so I'm on my own to keep up with my home exercises . Of course I have no way of accurately measuring my ROM but it was 125 yesterday and there is only so far I can bend my leg back with or without my knee being wrapped . I may get a couple more degrees once I take the wrapping off Friday then it'll be thigh meets calf .

Rick

Slick Rick. You are doing remarkably well. Keep up the great work. I already did more than my PT wanted me to do 1 day after. Im going to have to slow it down. Its my competitive nature. You ROM is great and extension great! You sound like a success story. Im glad. Seems like most January and February are doing fine. I read soo many horror stories I was beginning to doubt my finding Bonesmart. But my thinking isnt always on point. Well Rick ill be checking in on you , be cool !!

Way to go Rick.:egypdance:
