Hinged Joint Revision Complete, recovery continues

You do not have to rush into anything, and have plenty of time to find the right OS, it could be an OS outside of the TKR business.

Chris, I've been at it over 2 yrs, it doesn't feel like I'm rushing <wink>. Since Bonnie's post @RunA42K I've googled what's on offer in the UK (both on the NHS and privately). There are people offering the surgery, but no idea how good they are.

The idea of using a consultant who is not in the TKR business is interesting. My first thought is that they wont know their way round the knee well enough to do what needs doing - be that removal of scar tissue, loosening ligaments etc. Anyway I've emailed one private hospital and explained my problem. So let's see what comes of that.

I am off to Lanzarote tomorrow for a week. Can't leave my knee behind, but will try not to think about it.

They may specialize in the knee, ACL, other ligament repair, Meniscus, cartilage repair, osteotomy, etc, but not do TKR's.
Enjoy your vacation,

Hi, Chris. I haven't been reading your thread as I don't seem to get alerts anymore. I just thought maybe you hadn't been posting, like me........ Anyway, I'm hoping you get it all sorted out soon and can put it behind you. It's such a pain to think the surgery would help, then find out it either didn't help, only helped a little, or caused new problems. Here's to us at one year! :cheers2:

@patient 99 Carol, I am putting this on Bonnie's thread in case others look here too for information. There is a doctor in London who specializes in arthrofibrosis. His name is Dr. Glyn Evans and he works at the London Knee Clinic. Jo thought he was quite a good doctor as well. You might try him, hopefully it is not too hard to get to London.

Thanks Kelly,
Carol has not been able to find anyone to take her problems seriously, thanks for sharing,

I have come a long way since my last update.
I have been working with an advanced manual therapy and movement expert on releasing holding patterns, gait training, movement education, toning and a gentle exercise program, with excellent results.
My gait has changed significantly in the last few weeks, and I am no longer putting tremendous stress on my knee with each step. A small adhesion was released on the outside of my knee, bringing much relief. I am following a gentle exercise and toning program that gets those long asleep muscles working to support my new gait.
I had a steroid shot in my Pes Anserinus on Tuesday, it is working well, we will see if it lasts.
Going to have a steroid shot in my ITB, with Ultra Sound guidance, the shot will be too close to my already damaged peroneal nerve and I want them to know where they are injecting.
I received my new orthotics, but cannot find a shoe that fits just right. They can wait, seem to be doing OK with the 5 degree full length wedge in the left shoe, and a cut out under the right great toe for my Hallux Limitus, (tight big toe).
Sleeping better most nights with pain levels around a "1", prior levels were a "5", deeper sleep, longer sleep.
I can work and walk around the small building without my knee letting me know that I did too much.
Almost walking and moving around with out being aware of my knee all the time, Whew, it has not felt this good since sometime in 2000.
Hoping I continue to improve and avoid arthroscopic surgery to have scar tissue removed.
Next steps are walking longer distances, and standing for longer periods of time, while not irritating my knee and joining the ODIC.

Hi Chris,

Woohoo! How happy it made me to read your post. What a massive relief to read of you going into normality. Best of all too is the fact that you are sleeping better. I am so very pleased that your hard work has paid off, along with the expertise of the gem of a physio you have. Fantastic :yes!::happydance::yay::flwrysmile:

Honestly though, you have done so terrifically well and I am so glad to hear about that. You sound so positive. That therapy has clearly worked and you are a living testament to that!!

I love good news. Please take care

All my love to you from Ann x

Chris, I have found a therapist in Whitefish who does advanced manual therapy and I am quite happy to work with her. she uses Pilates equipment instead of a gym and I am all over that. I have done a lot of Pilates training and I always feel better afterwards. Glad to hear that you are moving forward---that is all we can expect these days!!!

Thanks!
Tried the exercycle yesterday, 2 months ago I was in pain for two days, rode only 2 minutes. It is a start.
There was a lot of not so cool, calm, and collected moments before coming to a plan that I thought would work.
Out of the confusion, and information gathering, a coherent plan finally developed.

I have a new at work stretch exercise, discovered it by accident.
1. Sit in a chair with wheels and position so knees are at 90 deg.
2. Slowly roll forward while holding the operative knee in place on the floor, don't move that foot.
3. When you get resistance or at the stretch level you want, from the resulting bend and it bends under the chair, hold for a 5 count and release.
4. repeat to your hearts content.

A modification of this is to hold for longer and massage tight spot until it relaxes

I dont have chairs with wheels @wberry but i tuck my toe behind the chair leg and shuffle my butt forward :-) its a good stretch

Very very happy to read your good news Chris! Keep up the good work! We're all finally getting better!

Thanks Bonnie,
It has been a long road for both of us, hopefully on our way to recovery. We are having some winter rainy weather, my knee is not acting up like it would have a few months ago, I consider that progress.

@Pumpkln definitely progress and well deserved. Well done you! sounds like an improvement. No reaction to bad weather has to be a good thing xxx

This sounds great, so our knees eventually stop doing the whether thing. What else will change in the positive?
