Hip Infection* problem

Hi @clodaghcov
I agree with SCaprae, you are a strong woman. I'm glad you're enjoying some quiet time after all of the excitement. Prayers your CRP drops. Hope your week is a good one.

Keeping the faith that you will eventually get past the infection! Those people sure can be tough to beat but it can happen. Sending white healing light your way

Hi there
Hope you've had a good week @clodaghcov
See you spreading cheer on the forum as usual.
You're a bright light here.
Wishing you comfort and healing! :loveshwr:

@clodaghcov I hope you've been well and in good spirits. You are incredibly resilient and will get through this. Sending you lots of love and hugs!

Well I'm sorry I've been a bit out of contact.

Talking of contact I'm worried about Zinnia, anyone have any news.

We lost our eldest labradoodle Niamh, she was super age of 13½ and went out, had a wee had a cuddle and just snuggled down in her bed and died. We have never in all our time of having dogs had it happen like this, wonderful for her but so sad.

I have my buggy and it's fab. Managed to do pruning and dead-heading going slowly between pots. Its a great little buggy a neat size and so much more freedom!! Definitely the right thing to do.

My crp is down to 18, but my ck has been rising and made me very achy and tingly feat and hands but hopefully only 2 more weeks of IV then we wait for the next plan.

Horrid weather in so many countries, do hope you are all safe thinking of you all, Mireille you sound to be going fabulously and Fractured catching you up soon and me bringing up the rear.

Have a happy weekend. Hugs and love xx

@clodaghcov So sorry about Niamh! I have a 13 yr. old Ratshund named Cocoa and I know how much our beloved pets mean to us. I'm glad you're enjoying your plants again. It does help with the stress. You're always on my prayers. Lots of hugs!

I know Zinnia traveled to New Zealand with her husband @clodaghcov
So I'm assuming they haven't returned to the States yet.

I'm so sorry about your dog, Niamh. Thankfully she passed peacefully. So hard losing our beloved pets :console2:
It's great you are mobile with your new wheels :vespa: so you can tend to your garden. I'm assuming what you refer to as a buggy must be what we call a scooter here?

Keep in touch and let us know what the next steps will be, when you hear in a couple of weeks.
Hugs

 awwww. So very sorry. My little Shihtzu....the real Mojo...will be fifteen in October and I know he's not going to be okay of my life forever...and it truly makes me sad.
Hugs dear friend.

Mojo333, Layla, Mireille Well I had hoped to tell you my IV was coming out tomorrow after 12 weeks but its not, its to remain longer for me to continue Iv and oral antibiotics for more time. My PICC line may have to be changed as it's been in 7 months now. My CRP is not moving quickly enough it goes up and down its 28 this week but my ESR is 4 and wbc normal.

Its just the way the cookie crumbles. I'm not in pain, my scar which has been opened at least 20 times has recovered amazingly. I love my bright pink crutches and my buggy and I'm getting about very well. I am going to practice in our drive driving this weekend. I have driven with a spacer before so lets hope its good.

I am giving huge consideration to not having another hip but staying as I am, I feel maybe this is the time to stop and get on with life and also not giving my family huge amounts of worry and concern. Another replacement will take me 6 months to get over of all goes ok and another year if the infection comes back again.

Still lots of talking and research to do but this I am favouring at the moment.

Lovely to hear all your news and to see Fractured and Mireille doing so well. Hugs and love and thank you for listening.xxx

:hi:
I am so sorry that the picc is not going anywhere for now.
I've got to imagine you are disappointed.
Like @Fractured ...this has been such a long journey I understand why you aren't anxious to go forward with another surgery!
Just don't know enough about the process with the spacer ...can it be left in indefinitely?
I bet you will be able to drive as you have had to make so many Plan Bs...and adapt.
I am sorry this all goes on but know we are praying for your health and happiness.:praying:

@clodaghcov My CRP is 11.7. I pray you recover fast. Ive been at this 15 months now. I feel your pain. But for once I feel like I'm winning!!! I even got out to fly the drones today. Cant stay out long because its was 99 and sweat makes the wound vac loosen.

Yay! You're flying the drone again. It reminds me of the old days.
Just a sneak peek of what's to come.....I hope.
Wishing you a lovely weekend. Stay cool, don't want the wound vac loosening.
@Fractured

Hi @clodaghcov
I'm sorry the IV must remain longer but you'd rather be safe than sorry.
So..is keeping the spacer indefinitely, or permanently, an option?
Your positive attitude continues to amaze and inspire.
Wishing you comfort and healing.

Gosh, that's a long time to have a PICC line in! But as long as it's doing the job. Really hope and pray things will turn around for you soon. I think you've done your 'time' by now!

clodaghcov, I've just read your entire thread and was so moved, I cannot tell you. Never before have I ever come across anyone with such strength, positivity and heart as you! You are an inspiration to us all, ailing and well alike. And I will hold you up in my prayers!
my 8 year old grandaughter was diagnosed with shingles. I have never had chicken pox so maybe I am immune
As you probably know, the shingles virus is the same as the chicken pox virus - varicella zosta. So though uncommon, it's certainly possible for children to get shingles. You may or may not be immune. There are two types of immunity: natural and acquired. Natural is when the child is exposed to CP in another child and thereby develops immunity. In the old days, chicken pox parties were quite common because a child thus exposed could get immunity without actually getting the pox which was much better! However, if they didn't get natural immunity, then they could be immunised with a vaccine and that is acquired immunity! Hope this helps.
the nurses have explained about biofilm and the way the infection hides
Actually they got that a bit wrong! How it works is that ALL prostheses (including hearth valves and stents) are coated in biofilm even from the moment they are taken out of the sterile packaging in the theatre. It can't be avoided. This substance is a kind of microscopic sludge which gets seeded with immature bacteria called stem cells. For the most part, these remain in this immature state and never develop. Why, we have no idea. But occasionally, they can somehow get stimulated into growth and this is when a bacterial infection develops around the surgical area. There is more in this article Peri-prosthetic infection - also known as late onset infection

@Josephine Than you so much for reading and responding to me, it brought me to tears which are a bit frequent at the moment. It is nice to have some more understanding of biofilm it all seems a mine field, I have read and re read most of your articles and links to try and understand whats happening to me. They are starting to give me the daptomycin as a bollus now, having had it in iv for 3 months over 60mins, the pic will only allow this, it draws back but only very occasionally will give blood, so each week i have that from my other arm.

I am to continue with IV and oral antibs for another 3 months which has shaken me, there seems nothing i can do to improve the situation except to keep well. I did tx consultant to suggest removing my leg but i had a ver quick reply of NO. I hope you can understand why i am wondering about keeping the spacer, each time i am opened it seems to open a can of problems.

I did ask the ROC nurse this morning if they had anyone else who had antiobiotics for as long as me, you perhaps guess the answer was no, so i thank you all for Bonesmart, without you all i would be a wreck!! I have put it to the team if they would send me elsewhere if there was anyone who could help me I know Prof Jeys is really the end of the line, they say would send me anywhere in the world they all so want me to have a normal life. I can do without normal even, i love my pink crutches painted by my son and my buggy, i just need to be able to forget it for abit, enjoy just doing the boring ordinary things.

Without my family and dogs life would be difficult, but really now apart from floor level jobs i am back doing the jobs which makes me happy. Beautiful sunshine so very lucky sat out in the field knitting a greyhound coat, with them all lying around me----just bliss. Thank you all wonderful bonesmart people for care advice and love. Hugsxx

Aww, you dear, sweet soul. Big hugs to you.
Prayers for your health and healing will continue.
@clodaghcov

Normal things...little things.
Many would forget to enjoy what is in front of them as they flounder through the uncertainty!
I hope you know how badly we want resolution for you!
Hugs from across the pond...:loveshwr:

@clodaghcov My heart goes out to you. Please hang in there - take one day at a time. If that's too much, then moment to moment. You will get there! Try and do something for yourself every day - even the smallest thing. Sending you big hugs! We are here for you!

 Sure hope you have been finding some enjoyment in these uncertain times for you.
