Revised PKR to TKR Patellofemoral PKR with Ehlers Danlos hypermobility

It's encouraging your surgeon doubts there is an infection and great news that all looks as it should on the x-ray.
Hopefully you get the all clear on the infection soon and you're able to proceed from there to resolve the issue.
Please keep us posted and have a nice weekend!

least you've ruled out the possibility he's a vampire.
That was my top concern! Now just icing and compressing until I get the surgery.
And comforting my pup.

Surgery scheduled for this Thursday! Won’t know exactly what will be done
until the surgeon sees inside the
knee. The original surgeon
who did the replacement and referred me to this ligament expert is also going to attend the surgery. Not sure if he will advise or is there to learn. I think it is great-especially since he will be doing my left leg next (not sure whether that will
be partial or TKA).

EXCELLENT news. And doubly good both surgeons will attend. It's speaks well for your original surgeon.

Best Wishes for Thursday, Mochapup.
Please update when you're able and let us know how you're doing.
All the best!

Crutches question! I have standard crutches to which I added armpit and hand cushions. After 7 surgeries and more to come, my hands and wrists bother me a lot. I have the added issue of hypermobile joints. Can anyone recommend different styles of crutches that hurt less?

Yes!!! Look up forearm crutches aka Canadian crutches.

Stopping by on this three month anniversary of your PKR to say Hi and wish you all the best tomorrow.
Please let us know how you're doing once you're feeling up to it.
Hugs and best wishes!

Hi-surgery was Thursday and I have been so tired though pain isn’t bad. I don’t know for sure what they found other than that it wasn’t the scar tissue causing the maltracking. The surgeon talked to my dad but he didn’t understand all the medical terms. The new surgeon asked beforehand if he could film the maltracking and then was video the surgery as I could be a possible case study to help others with this apparently rare knee issue and confiuence of conditions. I was happy to help!

I have my post-op appointment next week so hope to have more details. Dad mentioned that more surgery seemed to be on the table so am wondering if it will be conversion to TKA or a tibial osteotomy. Do they do the latter for “older” patients? I am 51.

More to follow!

I don’t know that there is an actual age limit on osteotomies. But frankly, if you were going to go through a major procedure (which both are), you might just want to go ahead with the joint replacement. Osteotomies are not a “forever” solution and a TKR would likely be needed. Recoveries are about the same, but some do report more pain with an osteotomy.
