Bilateral THR Oh 'dreams' exactly as visioned

@mainegirl1
We’ve gone canoeing all over too. I grew up in Minnesota so the BWCA is a favorite. We too have all of the portage packs sitting around.

@mikeycat
We can’t wait to get back to Montreal. I’m hoping to get tickets to a hockey game. And eat! Usually we rent an apartment for a week and bring our whippet but this time he is staying with a friend. I’m really hoping I’ll be okay for all of the walking!

Well hockey is over so I imagine it would be in the fall when you would be coming and yes it is a walking city. Everything has changed as there is construction and removal of many iconic 'landmarks'. We have just finished the new bridge to the tune of 4.2 billion. It will be the most crossed bridge in Canada 500,000 million daily. The old one is still side by side. I don't even recognize the city. The old port with cobblestone roads is old Europe and all the activities there.It is a bilingual city but the first language is French. The many festivals in the summer are a big draw, the Botanical Gardens,St. Joseph's Oratory,Mont Royal and the cross atop. It is quite something to get around now with the massive detours due to construction. I have construction on my street making it difficult for me and anyone else--cannot park here as street is closed.
Today I am sore. I think most of the strips on my wounds have fallen off, yippee. I am walking with that cane ,still edema in feet. I may get just knee highs for that. Want to be walking normally. Friends from NY are asking me to go to some fair in August. I don't even want to know. The thought of all that walking and my friend is oblivious.I want to lay low ,take it easy and slowly ease back into life not this madness of throwing myself here and there like a 'barbeau'.insect My friend is the moving gadding about type, complete with all kinds of excitement drama. This isn't us. And now after this surgery I want peace, a zen-like living , nature, foregoing the madness of our present era for something different.

@mikeycat You’re right, we are going later during the year. Actually the end of October. I’m getting my second hip done July 30 and I’m hoping I’ll be good enough for a driving trip by then. I checked and the orchestra isn’t in town then but hockey is. I grew up in Minnesota and am a big hockey fan so that would be fun.

I certainly wouldn’t want to go to a fair in August!

And now after this surgery I want peace, a zen-like living , nature, foregoing the madness of our present era for something different.
I couldn’t agree more.

Hockey used to be sept-april must have changed.And years ago when I was growing up with father and bro rabid fans when the Habs were in their glory days it was end of October if that soon to beginning of March. There were only 6 teams then.

Sitting in the garden but not for long going up to 32. Doing a few gentle exercises. I am amazed at the abduction and the sliding of both legs as well as being able to lift them knees at rt. angles. and really without ever having done anything.

Happy Tuesday @mikeycat
It's going to be a scorcher there today. We'll hit 84F / 28C so we're not far behind. Too hot for me.
Stay cool, enjoy the exercises and have a great rest of the day! :wave:

Wandering around fair grounds with all the crowds and uneven ground does not sound very appealing. If you go, take your cane even if you do not need it normally, it can help to prevent any falls and keep some people at bay from running into you or you can poke them if they do.

My friend just doesn't understand having never had anything and she does the Camino about 4x a year.Others in the group are much more aware having had hip surgery other surgery. You made me think of all the people --ugh-- I like quiet and serenity. It isn't my idea of appealing either.

A stiff one today--when does it get easier? It will be a hot one too and no water. The city is turning off the main water valve for the day here to do work on the underground pipes that they access by breaking the road and pavement. It doesn't end.Waiting for PT this afternoon. Hope she can manipulate as my other private PT does and then it eases everything. Will see this one's philosophy.

I just read the activity progression for THR on this forum and it seems just the opposite of what is recommended so I think in order to preserve my sanity and confidence I should take a break.I am nowhere near that so in order to achieve it I probably would need intense PT so I am reevaluating everything.

PT? You are only a month out of surgery And had TWO THR's.

My surgeon advocates just what is written for activity progression here. And he is not on this forum..
Your surgeon seems to differ.. and I understand the conflict you must be feeling.

You are doing just fine! That chart is 1) for a regular, single THR and 2) just a sample of what you might possibly may be able to do at that point. It's not set in stone and as is said time and time again, no two THRs are the same, even on the same person.

I'm thinking that having all the noise and other nuisances from the constant construction going on outside your door step doesn't help you relax a while lot. Plus I know you said it makes you feel like you're penned in. Then add no water, even if only for a few hours and it just adds to the discomfort. So sorry you're having to deal with all of that on top of your recovery.
:console2:

Happy Wednesday @mikeycat
I agree with all of the above, so far you're outnumbered. We think you're doing fine.
I usually mention the Activity Progression is only a rough guideline. Some excel, some lag behind. To me it was more about taking care not to go too much beyond what the article states I may be doing, more than worrying about whether I was keeping up. And don't lose sight of your bilateral status either when tempted to evaluate your progress by comparison.

I also think Elf1 makes some really good points about the minor stresses your living with which are out of your control. Wishing for brighter days for you soon. Things will get better. :SUNsmile:

I'm leaving the Recovery drawing Mojo often uses because it's a good reminder of the reality of the journey.

@mikeycat It's been a few years since we had street repairs in front of our house, and dust, lots of dust putting in a new road. Somehow it made it's way into my house, the blinds, etc. Eck... Had to deep clean. I was healthy then. Now they are building a new McLaren Hospital at the mostly MSU farmland at the end of our road. I'm so afraid they will need to do the road again with curbs and sidewalks as we dont have that now and I like it the way it is.... My husband shut the water off 2 days ago to work on a leak under the sink. I get antsy really quick, and don't realize how often I use the sink. Are you done yet? Are you done yet?:hairpulling: That's me, and I'm losing hair some yet, so don't need more stress. And neither do you...:console2:

Thanks for all the support.Just read everything. It is what was written here that disturbed me not my OS. I was feeling pretty ornery after reading it.My OS and I aren't even in contact. I just got a call from the rehab center so I have physio on Monday and PT coming over on Tuesday and I received a letter from the hospital giving me a truckload of instructions prior to my apt. in 2 weeks. I was given a list of the meds (antibiotics and dosage)that should be given me prior to any medical/dental intervention. This is applicable for a year. Plus a survey at what state I am in with the (?)weeks post op -what I can do, pain what kind, how frequent , under what circumstances , how far I can walk, if I walk without assistance, what devices do I use to walk,how far can I walk, can I take public transportation etc. I think it will be monitored months afterwards. It was several pages. I thought it was the records surgical and medical that I requested and thought that was fast.But,alas, it wasn't.
The noise was thunderous today but water was back. I was without the computer because my cat had jumped on the desk and she disturbed the keyboard --guess the wire was unplugged and I couldn't get on the floor to plug it in so I waited.This new PT suggested the rehab nordic sticks which I will get for support and to correct your gait and to use when walking outside similar to what jwadds has.She thinks I should use the compression stockings but at 33 feeling like 39 because of humidity I dunno- in a pool of sweat.
Leaving for the country tomorrow--mountains so should be cooler. I tackled the basement stairs there are 12 . I did a laundry and folded and brought it upstairs. Put it in a bag--heavy but put it a few stairs higher than my climb and kept moving it up. Did these stairs 3 times today and I made dinner for hubby and me.
I love the drawing. I feel so many people have expectations of me including myself and I just don't want to have any.
Question--my incisions feel taut and hurt does anyone use an oil ?I have Bio Oil on them . It is for scarring and I guess can provide some relief.
