New hip feb 6

@hipster333 Welcome, you will find so much support here, I have my first thr on Wednesday'
. eeeeek:scaredycat:. But anything is better than this so I am actually really looking forward to it. I give a lot of credit to this board for making me so eager for it. they have been super!
I passed the shopping baton to my husband yesterday trailing him with my little motorised cart and I kept cringing as he was DOING IT ALL WRONG!!!!:gaah:. Isn't it funny how hard it is to lose control. It is even funnier that I had far less of a problem passing the kitty litter baton just earlier today:heehee:

Ugh, @Mascaramom I feel your pain!!
I obviously don't have kids in the house any longer, except when the grandkids visit.
With kids there is soooo much more involved on the daily during recovery than hubby just taking care of you. You'll get through it, you'll have to try to turn a blind eye but it can be frustrating.

I'm often accused of being a clean fanatic :heehee:
Recovery drove me nuts in the sense that my recliner wasn't facing my kitchen but
I could hear hubby banging and clanging around in there like a mad scientist.
When I'd make my bathroom trips I'd catch a glimpse and cringe! Our rather large center island and I'm only saying "large" because it obviously held MORE, was his Command Central.
All my pills, lists, bandages, rubber gloves, every box he ever opened, empty bags, wrappers you name it and it was there. Open drawers, open cabinets, crumbs and dust bunnies all over my dark wood kitchen floor, which allows you to see every crumb. The dishes were piled high and we have a dishwasher! Anytime a woman came to visit, he'd fanaggle them into doing the dishes!! :loll:
My mom came over one day and I just let it all out :bawl:She asked me what was bothering me most and I said EVERYtHING!! Then I settled on the crumby, dirty kitchen floor. She soon had electric broom and steam cleaner going while my sister cleaned my kitchen for the fifth time and all became well with the world. Aaah!

You'll get through it, you'll have your moments but try to find the humor in it all. You're a great writer and communicator so I'm expecting some good comic relief through your recovery posts.
Ready... set....the pressure is on :heehee:
Wishing you a great day, sweetie!

Welcome, @hipster333 ,
It’s totally normal to feel nervous and afraid about a major surgery. The whole THR process is quite seamless, and recovery is almost a joy since it signals that (1) you’re out of chronic pain and (2) rehabilitating into a bigger, better life. Your family will rally better than you think, and they, too, will reap the rewards of your recovery :)

We have a good group going on here @crispy @Mascaramom @hipster333 and of course @MammaT who has been down this path before hope I haven't missed anyone who is due next week or so my first is 31st I feel I have been on this pre op side far too long now so time to move on to post op feeling a sort of detached calm about it now and in a weird way looking forward to it :umm:we can do this let's get moving to the post op side :bolt:

Lol @mcopt, I am sitting on both sides. I am with you, move over to post op for both. I moved my lift chair yesterday so I can fully recline after surgery. All last night my right hip kept waking me. Bending over to empty dryer, groin pain spikes. Any twisting movement, it squawks. Enough already.

Lead the way-I’m right behind you!

Hi @hipster333
If it's any consolation.... initially you probably won't have any frustration over
hubby not doing things the way you would. At least I didn't. I was on a natural high
due to the fact that surgery was finally behind me....that I was home relaxing and recovering in
my own space.
It did come though, not going to lie. As things started piling up I felt like :hairpulling: and this :gaah:
That's when you need to call in reinforcements, like friends, family, whoever can help organize things just enough to help keep your sanity. When visitors stop by and ask what they can do to help, don't be shy. Tell them. Most people won't mind wiping up the kitchen, doing a few dishes, vacuuming a floor, tidying up the bed.
Just don't try toilets.....probably won't work :heehee:

Warm wishes for a great week!

One week to bye bye hip pain:yes!:

Can't wait til the surgery is over and done. The waiting is making me nauseous!

I Completely understand hipster. Yesterday I think I experienced my very 1st panic attack. You've gotten to the point where you are just ready to get it over with and that is a huuuuge hurdle...

@Mascaramom just think six months from now we'll be running around with our kids! :) That's something I've never been able to do with my daughter. My son was three when all of this started. My daughter keeps asking me if our lives will be different afterwards. I told her it may be a rough start, but once I get going she's first on my list to go out biking and hiking with. Just one more week. My surgery should just be finishing up about now.

My daughter keeps asking me if our lives will be different afterwards.
Oh my goodness! YES your lives will be different on day one home from the hospital! Your family will sense the optimism and hope that you’ll inadvertently generate during recovery. All of a sudden, you find yourself making plans—REAL plans—again. This surgery gives everyone in the family (including pets) a whole new future. Without the tyranny of hip pain clouding your life, you will see vast and glorious horizons ahead of you. THR is the gift that keeps on giving :loveshwr:
Cheers,
Patrikya

Consider having each of your kids draw a picture of something they look forward to doing with you after you've recovered. You could even put the ideas into a jar and declare a hip celebration day every once in awhile and pull out the winning activity or use it to help plan each child's next birthday celebration.

I plan on celebrating each hip's birthday - each has been a day of rebirth for me! Plus it's an excuse for cake and ice cream, but we won't go there! :loll:
