I feel like I could have written part of your post. I am a very active person (swim 8-10 miles a week plus an active job) and was afraid that just sitting/lying around would result in rapid weight gain due to lack of activity. Luckily, a diminished appetite along with the exercises gave me some wiggle room in my jeans. Yayy! Also, last Sunday stood and walked around WAY too much; obviously thought I was a lot farther along in my recovery than I was, because in the evening my knee was a swollen, achey mess. Took me a while to realize that ice and elevation are still REALLY important, and can't be ignored.

yiayia3: Just let the steristrips wear off - try not to "help" them.

Remember: Elevate! Elevate! Elevate!

The BoneSmarties will be here if you have questions.

Hi Terri,
I had my staples removed on a Monday and was told to keep my steri strips on until the Friday, they were covered with a waterproof dressing. I removed the dressing on the Friday and enjoyed my first long hot bubbly shower for a long time - glorious! The steri strips gradually came off over the next few days. I did have to buy some from the chemist - they are very expensive - as one part of the scar still seemed to be open, in fact there was fresh blood on the plaster I covered it with, but it was fine a couple of days later.

Sounds like just the thing.

Had a horrible night knee stiff sore and other knee so painful thanks physio! The long road to recovery continues and I have to do it all again oh joy. On a lighter note now have a stick and can ditch the crutches result.Hope everyone has a good day

Hi yar yiayia3 hope I find you well,
I'm 7 days post op today and doing just great. My leg woke me up last night hurting my fault I halved my pain meds( just making it hard to go loo) but I'm back on full meds again swelling gone down a bit today but still very stiff, I'm elevating 99% of the day and icing 50% of the day. Haven't started PT at the hospital yet??? How long does that take? I'm doing bits at home but when I finish the old knee swells up again? God bless. Foxy.

Hey Yia Yia !! Hope you are doing well. Im starting to think that the stay in the hospital is going to be the easy part. Pain management going excellent so far except for the time I declined the offer. I paid for that for 2 hours of throbbing at a level 6. Sort of an experiment. sort of wanted to test my tolerance. Anyway good to hear you are well . You are still early on. Just be patient and dont worry about the weight gain. You will be healthy enough when your knee decides it time to lose weight. Than you can go to gym and sweat !! Keep posting .I will give a idea of what to expect. God bless

Hi @Foxmyster1967 @icep707 you are both doing really well I still get swelling after a month but then I think a lot of people do. Doing more in the house now and just did Tesco what a wow! Now resting with ice, we have flooding all around us at the moment we are o.k hope it stays that way.Have a good day speak soon.Foxy I have had physio every week since leaving hospital start group class next week but have to pay for that, worth asking your O.S or G.P

4 weeks today been a bit of a mixed week uncomfortable at night pain not too bad but not sleeping well, I think other people have said the 4 week mark is hard took my lovely ted stockings off for an hour this morning before shower bliss, another 2 weeks to go and then they go in the dustbin. the sun is out here today but not for long, more rain for tomorrow. Take care everyone

Im not sleeping either ! But I already knew that this would be a issue. I was forewarned. These meds are incredible, just got to make sure I stay on track. I got a p hone app which keeps track and a alarm but still trying to properly operate it. Its only been 16 hours since I got home. At hospital they were great about the meds. Well like the ole saying goes "one day at a time". C ya!

Hi all now into week 4, knee doing o.k I think but head all over the place, feel good one day and really down the next, I know l have to except It and relax but find doing nothing very hard, well that's my moan for the day everyone have a good one

This is the right place to have a moan. I have been really luck with my recovery, I understand that lots of people have had lots of crying, but I have hardly cried at all, apart from week four! And then I cried and cried, I too found the doing nothing suddenly hit me. I've been fine since, so don't worry, it does get better xxx Lyn

@yiayia3 Good to see that you're making really great progress, but don't push yourself any harder than you are. I suddenly learned that the ROMs were goals rather than immediate necessities. I vividly remember the stage you've reached and everything is still a rollercoaster. My surgery was 1st November 2013.
I was surprised that you're not on an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen; I was taking them in conjunction with Paracetamol and that worked for me. The Omeprazole is to protect your stomach lining from the acids produced by the painkillers.

I was delighted when I saw you are from Walton-on-Thames; I have family living in that area and my Aunt and Uncle originally opened a chain of Newsagents - Pollingtons - which are now still run by a couple of the family, the main one in Terrace Roadby my cousin Guy.

We have always been aware of the flood risk in that area and I have childhood memories of the Thames running very high when we used to visit my Aunt and Uncle anything around 50 years ago! Trips there are now seldom since my Aunt passed away 3 years ago and she was the "cog" of the hierarchy.

Where was your surgery done? St Peter's maybe ..

I didn't have staples, just steristrips, most of which I removed myself at two weeks when I was going around to the DN to have them taken off anyway .. It healed very neatly and half my scar is already "invisible"

I will watch your progress with great interest. Best wishes

Should have mentioned that we live in Wiltshire, so our nearest flood area is Bradford-on-Avon and the Somerset Levels. Used to be in Reading where they are being hit hard because of the Thames rising. We need more sunny days like yesterday.

At least keep the sun shining in your mind and you'll get through this, but only S-L-O-W-L-Y. It's a long road to recovery, but will be worth every milestone that you reach ..

Hi Mazza What a small world, pollingtons is our local newsagents use it all the time we live off of Sunbury Lane in a new close.Had my surgery done at The New Victoria hospital, private and had great treatment, I think I do tend to do too much and need to slow down a bit, scar feeling sore today have just taken ibuprofen and now resting, nice to talk to you keep in touch

Hi Terri, don't go out without a stick for a while - it could be useful for more than just supporting you.
My daughter took me out for lunch yesterday and when we arrived at the pub there was a board requesting that we waited there to be seated. So we waited, and waited, with staff dashing backwards and forwards, seemingly ignoring us. I stopped one, pointed to my stick and said that I couldn't stand for very long, could they find us a table now and we were dealt with immediately! I think I might take my stick with me for a while yet :).
Hope you have a good day tomorrow, xx Lyn

Sticks also fend off supermarket trolley dashers as I found out when I didn't have mine with me! Ouch!! It's a good idea to have it with you and watch people actually get out of the way (at least most of the time!)
