THR Nearly 1 year making slow progress

Week 11 and things are slowly improving- I can walk without the stick - slowly- and am feeling like I’m back on track- ice has certainly been my friend!

So good to hear you are improving! This is the time that improvements are small and more like week to week rather than day to day as in the beginning. I didn't make it back to work until week 14 and then, still a phased in return. I was functional but still had a ways to go. I recall that even through the summer I was still building strength and a bit tentative about activities when we camped. So, please don't let anyone discourage you, especially yourself. I noticed gradual. slight improvements even into that second year. You'll start doing "normal" things and think, "Hey, wait! I haven't done that in a while! How nice not to have it hurt anymore."

It amazes me that we can sprain an ankle and be on crutches for a few weeks and still not be back to our "normal" for a few more weeks. So why do we think that we should be recovered from major surgery in less time than that? I wish the medical personnel would be a little more down to earth about an actual real-life timeline and if we are super healers, then great! It's fine to present optimism but it would have saved me a lot of worry and disappointment. So keep on keepin' on! You're doing just fine!

So nice to see some of the hiccups are subsiding.
Hip4Life hits the nail on the head.
I know it is much more of a process than we could have envisioned, and "The Fix" has its own set of issues...
but, now, I never regret the recovery ebb and flows because it has all led me back to healthy and happy.
Keep on keepin on, friend.

I have really bad sciatica at the moment and restless leg.joy of joys.consequently I haven't been able to walk very much and can only do gentle exercises.was doing weight bearing yesterday and heard a little pop.hip is sore but sciatica causing that I think.i am 5 months post op.before this setback was doing great probably too much at times.so it goes to show this is definitely a 2 steps forward,1 back at times.rule is don't go mad.take your time.xxx

Good post above @steveeasy
Lots of wisdom through personal experience in that message.

Happy Three Month Anniversary, Jas95!
At only three months you have plenty of time to notice progress and you will.
Best Wishes on the journey and please stay in touch.

Well gosh it’s been a while since I posted- I’m at 10 1/2 months post surgery- it’s been up and down though generally up than heavens- I can do most things easily now but I’m a member of the ODIC club and every now and then still get a sore gluteus medius- then I need to rest again for a week or three and go back to icing! Has anyone else experienced this? I would like to hope that eventually it will strengthen enough to not get strained anymore.

This happened with my first op as I overdid the physio on already weakened muscles. I am babying my second hip.

My first hip is now fine.

Good to hear ! So how long ago was your first hip?

Hi. 5 years ago. A bit of a slow recovery but got there eventually!

Im at 9 months and I get the gluteus medius pain too. I feel like it’s just the muscles finding their way back. I also still get the nerve zingers, more so when I’m relaxing. I’m walking like mad, feeling very flexible and sleeping in all of my favorite positions again!
