PKR My new (partial) knee

1ELISEA - I saw that post about being able to retrieve the magazine from across the room and thought how nice it sounded! I love hearing about all the progress, little things and the big things too, though I'm more encouraged by the little ones I think. I know, I'm weird.

I had an epiphany today.:what: Earlier this week I was under the weather and slept most of the day, barely getting out of bed. When I was able to get out of bed - OMG did it hurt! That evening I went back to the cane and I felt so unsteady I took it to work the next day (yesterday). I also did minimal exercising yesterday, just some pedaling on my floor-cycle at the office. My hamstring was very tight and sore and around the sides of my knee were very tender.:groan:

So today I expected something similar but it was pouring rain when I got up and I didn't feel like juggling both the cane and the umbrella, so I left the cane home. I'd already noticed I wasn't limping as badly as the day before so it didn't seem to be a sacrifice. It's dead today in the office; two of my attorneys are on a business trip; the other two are quiet and the other secretary at our end of the floor is out sick. So after doing some housekeeping chores I was twiddling my thumbs and decided to do some floor-cycling to warm up and then do some knee extensions with my ankle weights. I then did some hamstring curls, very slowly and carefully and finished with some lateral lunges and squats. And I feel better!:happydance:

Epiphany? Don't get sick enough to be stuck in bed ever again! At least until rehab is complete. I only missed one day of my regime and boy did I ever feel it! I get a bit lazy on the weekends:sleep: and don't do everything I'm supposed to but I'm not still either. I'm up cleaning house, accompanying Hubs to the dog park, shopping for groceries, etc. So I figure that helps make up for not doing everything I'm supposed to. But being sick and in bed all dang day was not the same and boy did my body tell me about it! So, no more illness! Nada, nil, zilch!
:yes!:

Well, here's another possible epiphany. You might have gotten up in pain due to the barometric pressure changes ahead of the rain the next day! That can cause miserable days!

Aha! Yes, I'd forgotten how weather changes can affect us! Something to remember for next time, thanks Janet!

Tip for the day: there is no need to quote a post to reply to it, specially when your message is the very next post!

Lori imagine being stuck in bed for four weeks after having a tkr only 2 weeks before. I think that screwed up my recovery big time. But I feel like now slowly but surely things will improve. I think the bonesmart mantra is working for me, in that less PT is better for "me". I use to hurt like mmm....the day after PT. Now doing things my way, seems to be working better. I force myself to walk as much as possible. Hugs!

You sound great. Keep it up. Yes the weather does say Hi to those joints but remember as they get well they will be effected less. Take care and keep up the walking. Tashia

Sounds like you had a fun weekend too, even if you over-did it a little....its all good! That was a lovely pic you posted on my thread...love the sunset colours.

Always nice to be able to take a day off and rest your knee...hoping that is helped.

Hope you are doing well, Lori. :)

Wow, it's hard to believe I haven't posted in so long! I planned to update this last week and time got away from me. Dang employers expecting me to work while I'm here!:heehee:

Well what prompted this update was my hubby pointing out last night that I got up off the sofa "like a normal person"! So if I wasn't normal before what did that make me? In any case, I didn't notice it but it was good to hear! In addition, folks at work have commented lately that I'm walking straighter, so there's that. :yes!: If I can just get rid of the limp and feel stronger I'd really be happy.

I'm done with formal PT and am trying to be more conscientious about my exercises but I'm afraid I'm just plain lazy darn it. I did walk across the street on my break today and returned library books and then browsed the uncataloged shelves for awhile. It isn't a long walk but the browsing kept me on my feet and moving slowly which was better than having my big backside planted in my chair for all that time.

We're starting to think about camping season and when the pool opens Memorial Day weekend I'll be in it as often as possible. So - stuff to look forward to that will get me up and out.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I think things begin to change ever so slowly that we hardly notice, but others do. Nice to have some reassurance that things are continuing to get better and better.

This is my take on "normal"----

So I just go along being myself.

Take care, Lori and keep us posted when you have time. We care.

Thanks Judy! I like your take on Normal! I may have to borrow that for my blog if you're agreeable. I've always considered normal a setting on the clothes dryer myself.
:snork:

Grats on the milestone you hadn't even realized you had reached until it was pointed out, which is even better me thinks! Your knee is getting there without you even knowing it! :yay: .

I am sorta doing ok...lol! The darn baker's cyst is causing me a lot grief again (left knee) but the right knee is awesome, lol!

 Waiting now for the blizzard to hit, its the same system that is moving up eastern seaboard that dumped so much snow right from the great lakes to Nova Scotia thus far.

I hope you got as much (or as little) snow as you wanted.:yes!: Sorry the baker's cyst is being so difficult! I don't know much about those; I hope it improves. Take care Tessa.

Thanks Lori....we didn't get as much snow as was forecast for this area but we did get an extended period of freezing rain, this kept the snow total down. Another snow storm in the works for tonight though! Bet ya we will be getting rain soon now that we have had a good dumping of snow....:groan: !
