Well this is quite the ride. I am out of hopital and in a nursing home/rehab that my insurance likes and is close enough for hubby to visit.

This is slow I mean really slow. Not like with the other two. I will have pt 2x a day. They are so slowly doing the CPM machine. 70 is the most I can bend. I have to do leg lifts to lose the immobilizer. So far my leg is dead, very frustrating. All that was gained will have to regained.

I know my PT tried to warn me, but still. My room mate is a spry 97. I admire her. She is getting over a broken foot. I can get up from the bed, use my walker and go to the bathroom about 10 feet away, baby steps. There was a tendon my doctor tried to patch too. Soft tissue rehab is involved. I have no patience but a wonderful opportunity to get some!

Thx for asking about me. It is hard for me to keep, or even text, but I love hearing about each of and your stories of courage. Question:

No MRSA found, even in cultures etc. Am I really over this?

I'm glad you're on the road to recovery. You had a rough time, so it's nice to hear things are improving. How long do they expect you to need to stay there? Hopefully not long.......Hoping and praying things go well from here. Kim

old goat,
Good to hear from you, glad you are up and moving. I will tag @Josephine about if you are really over this infection with your cultures being negative.
Sorry to hear about your torn tendon, easy as it goes, they take awhile to heal.

I notice you do not have your own copy of the post op reading,

First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock as prescribed
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lay down!

Am I ever having a fun time with rehab. I can bend to 105, but the knee is rebeling now. I am just so happy I can sit on the side of the bed without my leg sticking out. I am getting better at walking. Looking forward to talking to my therapist today. The tendon goes from quads to knee that I should worry about. So glad I am not at home, cause they are taking care of me here. Hubby has finally decided to calm down and manage his energy better. He came up here one day and dropped two large diet fountain drinks all over the floor. Said he was about to faint. They checked his his out of control blood sugar. He went to ER and got washed out. We had a talk about all of this before my surgery. I cannot worry about him too. I have just got to keep my focus and get well. Then i can really help him. I still cannot put all my weight on right foot/leg. Slow, but the electrodes have helped immensely. I have to be able to do leg lifts to totally get rid of immobilizer. Now it is for support. Doc is Trying to protect tendon. Does anyone have tendon stories, or know how long I have to baby it? Thx for any ideas. I am sending my best to all. Keep the focus and rehab wisely.

Great to hear from you! I had a wonderful experience in a transition unit, also. Hope your husband has settled in and settled down!

I am still improving. I have to get right leg to do leg lifts. What have some of you done? @PegGar16 you said you knew much about knee tendons. Please share your wisdom.;)

Leg lifts will only come when your leg is ready to do them. Often it's just a matter of waiting - as patiently as you can! There really isn't anything you can do to make it happen sooner.

Sometimes, the effect of the nerve blocks given during surgery take a bit longer to wear off completely.

After my last KR, I came home at 5 days, still not able to lift my leg. Either my husband helped me lift it back into bed, or I used an old dog leash to lift it. Then, one day about a week later I suddenly found that I could lift my leg again. Once that happened, I had no problem at all doing the leg lifts.

If you're managing well in all other respects, I don't think it's entirely necessary to stay in hospital until you can do a leg lift.

Thanks so much. I am in a wonderful rehab center. Unfortunately the complication of a weak tendon is still with me. I read where shots to the knee can cause this. Should of could of. Doesn't really matter. I just have to keep on. My ID doctor put me on cipro since I kept trying to get a bladder infection. With the first Bout of MRSA I also had one in the bladder enter concessions or something. Not e coli. I really wish the best to all in their rehab. It amazing how the pain drops off 3 days after surgery. To keep yourself positive make a list what you can do for that day that is new.

I did practice leg lifts with my leg lifter. I pulled my leg with the lifter, until eventually I wasn't using as much arm strength, but was using more leg strength. I didn't realize the shots could weaken the tendon, but but makes sense because I cannot go up steps with my left leg, it simply doesn't seem to have the strength.

Hi Ann. Happy you are doing well. The tendon I am dealing with is the other one attached to the kneecap..You mentioned yours was with the quadriceps? I have the patellar tendon completely torn off. When the put in my new TKR they will also be using a graft to re-attach my tendon. It is interesting because that rehab is totally different then the replacement. I will be in a full extension brace for 6 weeks and non weight bearing. Then it is a very slow and gradual process to work on strength and the bending. Unfortunately I have had 2 failed attempts at reattaching the tendon (think it was the infection that hindered the last attempt) so this time they will be using a graft. I plan on following directions to the max with this one:)

The more I get into all of this the less patience I have. That is not a very stellar example I know. I am still at the rehab center. My 2 PTS amaze me with the exercises they come up with. I think each one is designed to show another weakness. Yet, I can see emerging progress into areas I have never seen before with this knee. I hope it holds tight to every mm. Of apparatus. It seems to "fit" so much better in ways the other one never even got close on. I am so thankful to the Lord for guiding my path. Truly, with all the pain and exercise I can only put it in the Lord's hands. Definitely a higher power is at work here. We are trying to sell our country house. We know it will be hard but with all our health issues we need to downsize and move to the city, or on the edge. I left the nursing facility to go for 15 minutes with him to drive around to look at 4 properties. I tell you when I got back I could not get to my bed quick enough! I was exhausted and took a solid nap. My husband wants me to stay about 3 more weeks till the post op visit. How will I know it is time to go home? I am so impatient. I feel like I am starting COMPLETELY over, so anything learned is a valued gain. Thx for encouragement.
