Knee Infection Medications after surgery

Does your rehab have weekly meetings discussing patient progress? Mine did and I was invited to attend. It was very interesting and I learned a lot, we also discussed the challenges of going home.

Do you know how you got the infection in the beginning? Did it settle in your knee from somewhere else in your body?

It is almost impossible to know where it comes from. I did not already have it so to speak. I had some complications with bleeding and I am sure the longer it is open the more at risk one is. The focus now is to keep it away. I tried suppression first and now it is eradication. I am 100% sure I do not have it now. However, I am starting over building up from damage it caused. Staying positive.[emoji12] [emoji106]

Great idea, my PT and OT are so open. I will ask.

I am so ready and after 22 days of intensive rehab I will be going home this Saturday. This was a good jump start for someone like me. A whim tp pain!! ;) of course I'm not "fixed" and will continue therapy as I continue to use the walker. Lots still to accomplish when I can only put 95% of total weight on right knee. Flex and extention are ok with exercise. My attitude, everything in life is a learning experience and everything has purpose. So much was learned here. My roommate here is a spry 94 year old. She loves Spur basketball. She is a gem. I am all set up with home health care. Still a major work in progress but no more MRSA! THANKS again to all the bone smarties! Oh, my son is taking his family to England this summer. He went to live there for 2 years to do a mission for our church. I use to warn him that with his sense of humor with all the places in the world he would probably go UK, and he did! He loves it there. I am not sure exactly where he is visiting. Happy day to all.

That's great hats great that the MRSA is gon and you will be going home. I'm sure you will do even better being in your own home. You'll start to be able to get around more and more. Be careful that you don't overdo anything.

Great news! Enjoy being at home in your own bed and surrounded by your own things.

I have been home now for 4 days now and I can say this morning when I awoke I felt better than I have felt in 3 years. Yes! I mean it! Of course it would only take one session with my PT to slap some reality there, lol. I see my doctor tomorrow and am cautious what to believe until he states his facts. Icing, elevating, pain control, self discipline, exercise, (even sometimes in the middle of the night!) all of this is majorly part of my routine. Could this be the end of MRSA??? Still debating about that. Next week I will see my ID doc and let her tell me. If she wants me to take antibiotics I will. I am still lacking in the flex and extension process, but the longer I go the more the swelling goes down and the better it gets. I am concerned about the tendon and will get back to bone smart after the visit. Slowly my strength builds. I will have PT home for 3 times a week and OT for 2 times a week. Keeping positive! Stay positive new ones! It will pass, just do it step by step. Control the pain, and practice patience. Work on the journey rather than destination. It will get there! Even with horrible MRSA it can get better, just don't put off anything with MRSA. If you have questions get them answered quickly. Use all your resources put your energy intro creative positive ways to drum up more resources, and aid. Here is something I found out about my doctor: Dr. DeLee was awarded a Total Joint Replacement Fellowship with Sir John Charnley in Wrightington, England in 1976. Since then he has developed new knee parts, and apparatus. He has been good for me. One his web site is interesting info about where progress should go. It may not be everyone's advice, but it is information. https://deleesportsmedicine.com/read-more.html# HANG IN THERE! no matter what stage you are in.

I am happy everything is going well Ann! Hopefully I am not that far behind you:)

Still working hard at rehab. Straight leg lifts are getting better. Hubby ended up in VA hospital. Complicated neuropathy. Hope he will be out soon. Wishing all the best. Biggest issues for me, inflammation, swelling. I think elevation might be the biggest help for me. If I can just slow down now. Wow, what to do when life goes on and is so demanding? I guess just do it the best you can.

Don't work too hard at that rehab. Instead, work at reducing the swelling, with lots of rest, ice and elevation. Once the swelling gone, your knee will be able to bend.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I hope he improves quickly.

This is good advice. It is hard not to feel like you are going backwards when all these unscheduled events come about. O boy! I stayed at the hospital all night. As soon as the doctors come I am going home to crash. I plan to pack my leg in ice and take 2 pain pills. There is no way to get an ice pack here, already tried. Of course the one I started with yesterday has melted. Trying to keep a good face for hubby. I can do this.

I am sorry about your husband! Mine was also at the VA. Ask if they have a recliner that you can use. They had one for me so when I was with him the leg was up. I also brought some of the gal ziplock bags and filled them from their ice machine. I spent a lot of time with him there......it was the housekeeper who knew where the recliner was. Try to stay off the leg as much as possible....I know easier said than done.

PegGar16 and others I have some big, big questions. I have had a rough time with taking care of hubby and my rehab. My knee has done amazingly well with flex and extension. So what is missing? It is the tendon. I have no strength with that tendon. I think I could no PT till 80 plus but it would not make the front tendon stronger. I see my surgeon July 6th. I am thinking of stopping PT until then. I can be standing, just standing and that knee could just give out. I always use a cane. I saved myself from more near falls than I want to admit. My lifestyle is not easy, Hubby's health just keeps getting worse. HE may need a knee replacement now! What do you think or suggest? Too many irons in the fire!! (Who says that anymore? lol)

Sorry you are still having troubles with your knee giving away.
Was it your quad tendon that was injured?
