Knee Infection Medications after surgery

It's still too early to do strength exercises with your RTKR leg. I noticed a difference after strength training, but my pt waited until 4 months. I was still using a cane at that point. I always wonder if the infection and multiple surgeries made the leg weaker, not the knee so much as the surrounding muscles etc.

Yes, the quad tedon. I bet it will need it's own surgery. Booo!

The doc told me this tendon was more narrow and less than it should be.

Hi Ann! Wow...you have been busy. I know it was really tough trying to take care of everything when my husband ended up in the hospital. I spent far too much time on my feet...but there wasn't much I can do about it. My husband has finally stabilized. The A-fib is under control and all his levels are great on the Warfarin. He is even going to some informative groups at the VA about the heart failure. I'm glad your rehab is going well. I am not quite sure about your tendon. If it was injured or damaged someway they would tell you to rest it, with the surgical repair I was immobile for 6 weeks even with the knee replacement. I meet with my new surgeons at the Mayo Clinic next Thursday and will ask about the rehab with my tendon graft/repair. I still remember Irons in the fire, My PA looked at me funny when I told him that the sensation I was having with the knee-less joint was like nails on a chalk board...eeewww. Do they use chalk boards in school anymore or the white boards?? Happy to hear from you:)

Big question. I am getting ready for my doctors visit this week. I have to use a cane for walking, can't do it on my own. The hip or upper thigh will hurt. I know this is not right, how do I ask if it is ok?

Use the cane in the dr office, he'll let you know. I'll be curious to hear what your dr says. To be honest, with having the infection, spacer and then new knee I'm not surprised that the leg is weaker than normal.

I agree with KarriB, use your cane and tell him about your hip and thigh hurting.

Well I'm waiting now for the doctor. A strange thing happened yesterday. My knee went out of socket and never got back into place. It is red, and I cannot put any weight on it. Can't believe this happened. I will just have to wait to see what he says. Prayers please.

Oh no! How did that happen? Did you slip or misstep? I am praying for you right now! And, as a lot of us know, prayer works!

Okay I'm kind of full of pain pills right now so let's see if I can get this straight. The doctor said in a staged revision like I had, there is much scar tissue build up. I have had 8 surgeries on that favorite right knee. Physical therapy and exercise has now stretched some of the scar tissue maybe too much. So it slipped out when it was in a certain position. I held onto the table as he pulled and pushed and it will pop right back into place.

I don't know if I understood him right but I think he said something like I have a ride at the center of it, I don't know. Most people don't have that in their replacement. But I had to have one for stability. If it still is bad after 3 weeks of wearing an immobilizer then they would replace the spacer with a bigger one. But he said with my history he wants to try and avoid surgery at all cost.

Ann,
I am going to tag @Josephine about your lax knee, she may know about "a ride at the center".
Your post is fine, you should be able to edit it, just click on the edit button at the bottom of your post.

Could he had said a rod in the center it it? @Josephine I have noticed the difference of components between an original TKR and then prosthesis used for revisions. I never quite understood why they looked so differently.

I was thinking she meant rod also. I think I have a rod in my TKR too.

Rod is what I meant. I sure feel better now that it is in place again. Thx everyone.

Thanks for the clarification, I have a rod in my revision knee also. Hope it stays were it belongs.
