THR Me2 and Recovery

Squeeeeeeeee! I am over the moon for ya Sheryl! Your grin says it all! Can't wait to hear what the OS has to say....or is this our little secret? :heehee:

And yep, I'm with you and @craftdee on the whole sitting for too long thing...and yep, again, there's usually a wee grunt, or groan that goes along with the first few steps:loll:

:wowspring:Absolutely amazing 6 week post op check up at 7 weeks!!!!! OS said everything so perfect . . . cleared to do whatever my heart desires . . . if I could do it before hip issues, I can do it now . . . if I want to do it and it doesn't hurt, go for it [small caveat that I am still healing, not to rush it (me?), use common sense (me?), patience (me?)] and I don't have to go back for a year! :yes!::happydance::dancy::roseshwr::cheers::curtsey::scaredycat::scare:

YIKES YIKES YIKES . . . since he told me that I have felt a mix of emotions . . . from that :yes!: feeling that I'm all better, :happydance:that I can dance for joy that I can do life again, :dancy:that I can go back to the gym again without being afraid of damaging me, :roseshwr:that I can put that smile :giggle: on hubby's face any which way, :cheers:that he is so sure I'm all better AND that I'll take care of my new parts that well :curtsey:that he doesn't need to see me until next October :scaredycat::scare::thud: .

:sos: BoneSmart friends . . . . I so happily celebrating BUT :bolt:I feel so melancholy, even a little panicked, too. :wowspring:How in the world do I go about living a normal, no doctor visits, no worry about surgery and getting fixed, a "forgotten hip" kinda life?

Who is that going for a walk in Paris? Can we stop off to see @Cantabrigian for the skydiving adventure? Can I head to Australia for a :fasthorse: with you @Megzie and to visit all you Aussie friends? Mayhap I'll head for our central states to show off for @Dieter and @Plumberbutt ! @GaRosehippy @MajorHeidi @beachgal @HerbM @CanukTriMom @craftdee and all of you folks on the other side of recovery, thank you for getting me here! Now what :surfer::hog::swim::bicycle1::kayak::fasthorse:

And thanks to all the creators and moderators here!!! Where would we all be without you?

Ok, I'm going to go do my day with a giggle in my heart, tears in my eyes, and spring in my step, not to mention the wiggle in my hips as I walk easily - and like a lady - through my day!

:goodpost:@Me2
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your update, and so glad you have your life back.
That's a great Christmas present for 2014.
You did it!

Can I go on the trip, too. Would love to see ALL of our old buds out there.
Hope they are all mended, too.

@MajorHeidi -- we so need a Hippy Reunion! Wouldn't it be awesome to meet everyone face to face?

That's just so fantastic Sheryl!!!!! Your brilliant news brought a tear to my eye - it so great that we have both had such a smooth recovery to date!

Just don't go doing what I did this last week:no-fin: I went back to work on half days, started hydrotherapy (and I don't know how to do things in half measures, so I worked hard!) AND decided to up my walking regime. Any one of those things on their own would have been completely fine, but in combination, oh brother am I paying for it now! Just as well I still have some panadeine forte left over:gaah: I'm so grumpy at myself!:censored:

But, enough about me....your news is fantastic!!!!!!! And yes, I think you should come down under so we can go for an awesome :fasthorse:

Jena @Meggzie I'll be getting plane tickets this afternoon! I've been wondering what I'm going to do over Winter holiday - I've scheduled myself 8 total days off as a reward to me for not closing my child care program for either surgery and being back to work Day 5. I've always wanted to go to Australia! :heehee:

But, I certainly wish I'd read your post BEFORE I went to the gym last night. After a Christmas tree hunting over hill and dale and shopping all day, my hubby went to a Christmas party so I decided to invite my son for my first trip back to the gym. The son who I knew would really push me.
(and I don't know how to do things in half measures, so I worked hard!)
and I did first time on recumbent bike for 15 rather than planned 5 minutes.
Any one of those things on their own would have been completely fine, but in combination, oh brother am I paying for it now!

BUT, I did it! Another I did it! I did a full work out at the gym! I was able to use all the weight machines, at about 2/3 the weight I was doing. The bicycling was really scary at first, my thigh just didn't seem to want to do it and my right knee kept jutting out but it did straighten itself after 5 minutes which is why I did the extra 10 minutes as it had just started working smoothly. It'll be a whopping eight weeks since surgery this Wednesday. Unbelievable!

I was surprised that the adductor muscles on the inner thigh worked really, really well while the abductor muscles that starts in upper back around the outside of thigh to back of knee (from pictures on machines) were really super weak! I'm not sure why that surprised me as those muscles had been the most painful before surgery and have felt really numb since surgery. I had that little worry in back of my mind that perhaps something from spinal had damaged nerves there but have been feeling "absence of pain" there in the last week or so. My back, both this area and the SI joint, have been really well behaved since surgery. I am so hoping that both back and hips are pain free. It would be such a great bonus from the surgery!

@Me2. Just don't get carried away and overdo

at the gym. It's so easy to do when you're feeling good and loving what you're doing. It's still pretty early in recovery.

Take care and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] Me2 and Recovery

Hi @Me2 Well done on the workout... try not to overdo it, but I suppose you can always adopt the regret-and-medicate-later approach :heehee:
I have exactly the same (for some reason similarly surprising to me as it was to you) thing with my thigh muscles... the outer ones are weak as anything - but the back ache that has been the constant companion of the hip pain for years has abated so much I can hardly believe it! Believe me, if that's a side benefit I will be so grateful... even if the hip itself doesn't get any better!
I had a scary moment when I first used the stationary bike (mine's an upright) the general consensus is to have no resistance, well as soon as the pedals went all the way around they took on a life of their own... it felt so out of control, horrible. I applied some resistance and found that heaps better, it's still only about half the resistance I would have applied previously, but as I haven't been able to even get on the bike for nearly two years (that's where I really noticed the loss of ROM, couldn't get on a bike, into the bath, over low fences ... and forget anything interesting!!) half resistance is a definite move forward:upright:
Glad you're still progressing well, and enjoy those 8 days... you've earned them:cheers:

It's me!! It's me going to Paris in January with DB!! Been extending my walks out in preparation for lots of strolls around the city!

Just so thrilled with your news!! Even more thrilled that you took the plunge and are reaping the benefits now!!

Merry Christmas to you and your family. And your new hips!!!

Hmm, yes, all those little things we "couldn't do" or avoided --- especially the
anything interesting!!

part! I was musing to hubby this morning that I feel like I'm living in Christmas morning where I keep finding another package under the tree to open and suddenly be surprised at the terrific feeling of "Wow, look at what I can do."

But again, that little bit of melancholy of what if that is the last present and Christmas morning (recovery) is over? I guess its good I enjoy the post Christmas sales?

@bottomshollow I know . . . that thought kept running through my mind at the gym last night. I did keep to my promise to me to not push the weights on the machine stuff and just try things out. I kept seeing :no-fin: and a :bignono:.

But, I don't think I've ever seen that I received a "official hippie trophy". Is it allowable to ask for one so I feel "official"?

Awwwww, thank you! --- now I feel like I am really truly a Hippie! Thank you!

Sheryl, you are the epitome of a Hippy!

Yep, that's the way! Act now and beg forgiveness from your body later:rotfl: That's how I roll!

Oh, and Sheryl, how did you go with the tickets? Let me know when I need to have the guest room ready! I have some friends in the high country trail riding business here, might have to organise a little something? Of course, the Aussie high country ain't that high compared with the rest of the world, but it sure is beautiful from the back of a horse! Check out this link

:praying: I've always "threatened" my family with running away to Australia - your link and guest room are quite a test for me this evening!
