Hope the chicken soup has helped @Mayhip8 and you are feeling better soon. Maybe try a nice hot bubble bath with some eucalyptus oils to clear that head?. :bath:. @ahipgma I like the hot toddies suggestion...how about mini mince pies to accompany? UK folk are crazy about them! Must say I've grown to like them over 16 years. @ChrissyW hope the dreaded norovirus spares you so you can overdose on your Christmas movies and festive cheer, as you definitely enjoy it all so much. :banana-santa: It's been such a wet cold miserable day...week... month. I stayed inside all day and finished up cards I said I wasn't going to do this year. Ah the Christmas spirit finally nudged me into action. :christmas-carols-smiley-emoticon: Still feeling a bit tired these days. I'm coping but really exhausted every afternoon. Stay warm and dry and healthy my lovelies.

Happy Sunday evening ladies. Had a lovely weekend. We went to a little Michelin star restaurant as a treat on Saturday evening and stayed in a b&b (in likely for anyone knowing Yorkshire!) I had the most delectable desert of a prune and Armagnac soufflé yummy! Well 3 days of work left and hopefully it will have less sickness! It's a careers day for the whole school on Tuesday, which has taken a bit of planning and we can wear jeans on weds as it's an own clothes day and staff all get excited when we can go dressed down! Anyway ladies, I've traumatised my poor husband with 3 Christmas films, a true Christmas marathon and it was nice and festive and I never get fed up of Christmas films (as you mention @Calgal ) how you feeling @Mayhip8 and how was your weekend? @ahipgma strangely enough I was looking at eggnog recipes today, never had it but it sounds nice and wassail sounds very Victorian, what's in it? Catch everyone later xx

Well it’s a bright and cold morning here and I remain in my nest! :snow:
I’ve started a week of annual leave and won’t have to work until Christmas Eve now, so this is my week of preparations for the festivities.:banana-santa:baby-jesus
My laryngitis has settled so I can speak a little more now. However it’s come out into the full blown snots and sneezes (yuck) :eeeuw: at least I can move around and I’m less achy than I was last week - I self medicated with chicken soup, warm baths and healing oils( @Calgal eucalyptus was a fab idea) I’ve eaten spiced and curried foods along with lemon ,turmeric and pepper tea , I don’t know if that stopped anything in its tracks but it sure helped pass the time!!!:chuckmarch:
My eldest daughter came round yesterday to help the Christmas teens decorate the house and tree, it’s a tradition they have to do it together whilst watching “a Muppet Christmas Carol”:presents-under-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon:

I then got a call to say that my mother-in-law (who is 90 on New Year’s Day),whilst walking her dog in the local park had been knocked over by two large dogs,a third dog picked up her Cockerpoo in its mouth. The owner of these dogs wasn’t able to control them and get them back on the lead, so she was unable to get up off the floor, luckily two gentlemen stepped in and dealt with the situation, somebody else helped her to back to the car and escorted her home, My mother in law is a tiny frail looking 89-year-old, however she is Glaswegian and has the famous Scottish nature of stoicism and strength,a tough cookie you might say, so initially she didn’t let us know what had happened, however once we found out an hour or two later we went round to see how she was, she is not physically hurt, as the day went by she became more unsettled, my husband and she took the dog to the vets also, the dog isn’t injured but was given a painkilling injection, and we are keeping a close eye on both of them over the next few days, The incident has been reported to the police as an onlooker took the registration of the vehicle of the owner of the dogs. It’s such a horrible and avoidable thing to have happened, it’s a good job that my mother-in-law the dog wasnt seriously injured.
things like this really cause you to pause and stop don’t they? I know she doesn’t and I don’t want to dwell on the ‘what ifs ‘ as she is very much a sort of ‘get on with it ‘ type of woman which has obviously served her well all these years. My husband is with her at the moment and I’m going to pop round in a bit.

I’ve been online shopping to the MAX :heehee: I need to go out to various stores to pick up the bits and bobs I need to start my prep as we are hosting Christmas this year for our family and friends, as I’m working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day evening my amazing children are going host and cook Christmas Day! I’m going to prepare as much in advance to help lighten the load.
@ahipgma I can imagine how lovely it will be for you to be off and having Christmas with all your family this year - I will rejoin the festivities in my house after my shift around about midnight and we shall start celebrating Boxing Day no doubt!

@ChrissyW I do hope those pesky Germs stay away from you over the next few days -there is an epidemic of norovirus closing schools around here,
your weekend sounded wonderful And the dessert sounds intriguing! I was thinking of you yesterday when the Christmas film was blaring out as the children decorated our tree :plugging-in-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon: It was fun to watch because they all spontaneously burst into song alongside the Muppets. I am planning to watch ‘it’s a wonderful life ‘with my hubby soon as we both love that film.( Tissues at the ready)
So ladies it’s nearly coffee o’clock and time to break my fast so I will love you and leave you for the moment

Have a happy and peaceful Monday:loveshwr::roseshwr::flwrysmile:

Greetings to all!
Dearest @Mayhip8 , @ChrissyW , @Calgal @Layla , and all and sundry!
So glad to read everyone's posts and catch up. Mayhip, thank goodness your MIL is basically OK! Could have been so much worse. We had a cocker poo for 17 years, a great little guy that my girls grew up with.
So glad no one was seriously hurt but getting shaken up like that is no fun either!
Ari was hospitalized with an upper respiratory infection-- this being the 3rd time she has landed in the hospital with same since she was born-- which was a little strange until she was evaluated and now they believe she has some asthma. My daughter was so upset about it but I encouraged her that she is a PA in ICU and her hub is a pulmonary-critical care doc!! But it doesnt help when it's your child, sometimes. Poor Ari was on steroids and was so hyper but now much better.
My hub was diagnosed with A-fib and tachy- brady syndrome--- he was asymptomatic but was hooked to a monitor during his colonoscopy and they found it. So now after some diagnostic testing he has an appointment with a specialist who deals in heart conduction problems in January. All testing so far pretty encouraging though. So this Christmas season has been interesting as this all just happened.
We have always gone to a tree field and chopped down a real Christmas tree, but time constraints had us buy a precut one. Pretty pricey this year too, but we treated ourselves.
We also cleaned the main rooms in our house, scrubbed and waxed the floors, then settled down last night to watch "It's a Wonderful Life". (Did you watch it Mayhip?) Isnt it neat how certain movies are such a part of Christmas for a family? You just gotta watch them every year!
Went to a wedding Saturday, and it was a big fat Italian wedding. It was my hubs college buddy's daughter we have known since she was born. Food, food and more food. Christmastime weddings are so beautiful, my Anne's wedding was on Dec 19th 4 years ago. It was great excuse to have a scaled down, calm Christmas that year!
Chrissy, heres hoping you make it to the finish line and beat all the sicknesses at school and can begin your holiday with your hub and boys.
We all met in May and are still here as the snow flies, at Christmas time and I am so glad. Those with kids still at home, enjoy every second of it we are are empty nesters and our greatest memories are of when our kids still lived at home!
:plugging-in-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon: <--me later, I hope! Putting the lights on today!!!
Love and hugs to all!

Hello :xmas-wave-smiley-emoticon:
I hope you're able to enjoy your week off work as you're on the mend and regaining your strength. It sounds as though the virus is easing, the yuckies draining, and the aches disappearing. Thanks to rest, time, chicken soup, warm baths and healing oils. All is looking up!

I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL's mishap while walking her dog. Thankfully she wasn't seriously injured. The outcome could have easily been so much worse given her age of 89.

I'm happy you're feeling much better and hopefully you're enjoying the festive look of your nesting space. Wishing you a good week and the strength to accomplish all you'd like to do before the holiday next week.
Hugs and best wishes! :santa-dance:

@ChrissyW yey!!! I hope you are enjoying every little minute of the festivities, what sort of plans do you have over the next week or so ? My two teens finished at lunchtime yesterday and have developed “giddy mode “! it’s great that they’re still excited by Christmas, and willing to get involved to do the stuff I can’t.
@ahipgma I hope little Ari is okay and settled down after her steroids, also your hubby isn’t to debilitated as you continue to make his heart flutter!
Well my annual leave has been a total wash out, I have felt absolutely dreadful, my un -operated hip has now become quite painful, and my knees are also giving me problems, I think it’s because my inactivity has increased with this recent viral thing. I’m going to be honest and say it’s testing my patience to the max. If it wasn’t for the upcoming festivities to focus on I don’t know where I’d be - I’ve got to change my mindset I know, because this negativity doesn’t do me any good.

My husband and I (sound like royalty!) are meant to be having a day together today to do nice stuff, it’s going to start off with supermarket shopping and who knows where that leads to! that wasn’t exactly my plan but we have to bend with the wind like the willow not be unmovable like the oak ( or something like that!!)

I’ll leave it there for now I’m going to drink this beautiful cup of tea he’s brought to me And see what this day brings.

Lots of love and hugs to all:flwrysmile::roseshwr::loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Oh, @Mayhip8 ! Thanks for the wishes, we are all better. I wish I could say the same for you. But you have never failed to get past negativity before. Take enough pain med, rest when you need to, and the excitement of the holiday will permeate, hopefully and you'll feel some better.
Over here there are all kind of viral things including norovirus going on too. The one I had laid me low for almost a month. You know my hips hurt along with everything else when I had the virus , and I have 2 new ones! Instead of willows and oaks hope a Christmas tree gladdens your heart.
Sending love and healing vibes:loveshwr:

@Mayhip8 first 2 days of the holiday have been full of very little of exciting but nice all the same. I've pottered around a bit, had a docs appointment yesterday as my shoulders ( one more than the other) are increasingly more painful! Looks like I have arthritic shoulders starting and she said it was likely to have been masked by the extensive cocktail of pain meds previously. Oh well, I suppose it's part of the aging process and I'll do the exercises she suggested and see how it goes! I'm presuming you've got the grey weather where you are too. What about you two @ahipgma and @Calgal ? I wish I could say I was spending the weekend baking festive goodies but I'm not, as I've said before I'm not great as a Nigella stand in, but I am icing my cakes tomorrow so they look festive. That suddenly made me think of the wedding you went to @ahipgma , did they have sfogliatelle or lobster tails or any other Italian cakes? I'm hoping everyone is feeling festive and it's good to hear where troubles were they seem to be going. @Mayhip8 keep that positive spirit going and what festivities did you and hubby get up to in the end? Have a lovely Saturday one and all xxx

Mayhip I hope your lovely day planned with the husband was a very nice one.
Darn, so sorry that the hip is now so very painful again along with knees! Hopefully it's feeling the effects of your virus and will soon pass.

You have been through so much, waiting for a surgery date.. thankful that the holiday cheer and the excitement of your children are keeping the frustration and blues at bay!

Why can't Santa bring you the perfect hip with the perfect surgery date?? Well, if it can help I'm adding it to my wish list for you, too. :carols::plugging-in-xmas-tree-smiley-emoticon::santa-dance:

Hope you're feeling better @Mayhip8 though sometimes those viruses seem to they last forever. Happy winter solstice! From here on our days get a little longer! Thank goodness. I'm adding my wishes for a new hip for you in the New Year to @CricketHip s!
@ChrissyW in our area we have a wedding custom of the cookie table at weddings.
Friends and family bake dozens of cookies and present them all at the wedding.
So not so much Italian cookies but yummy cookies in vast numbers. I wore heels for the first time since my surgeries whew! My feet were killing me by the end of the night, but enjoyed the dance floor with hubs, something I couldnt do before the surgery!
I agree that the hip meds cover all the other arthritic parts so when you dont need them for the hips the other joints chime in!
Only for me its hand joints.
But hope everyone is enjoying their break if they have one and even if they dont, the holiday season!:carols:

Oh! What a lovely supportive group of friends I have on here. I’m truly grateful.:roseshwr:
yesterday was good in the end,me and the hubby did the shopping for Xmas ( no-one can eat anything from the fridge or freezer till at least Christmas Eve!! ) I nipped to a colleagues home who needed my help with IT/ computer issues so she could continue to work from home- she has a condition called LUPUS and despite her fatigue and pain wants to continue to triage from home and so me and hubby spent some time with her and as I listened to her situation ( and she was so humbled) I took a leaf from her book - so to speak- and counted my blessings. She’s one tough lady and inspires me to fight my situation! I went on to finish some shopping then we picked the teens up from home and went out for a ‘ chippy tea’ COD chips and Mushy peas! How can that not lift ones spirits?!!:egypdance:
After a deep and hot oil enhanced bath I managed a good sleep.. so much so that today I’ve been able to paint my stairs ( pics to follow when done), wrap a load of pressies, did a two hour ‘ emergency triage’ from home ‘ on call’ shift- then went for a swim with a good friend. Home by 10 pm in time to eat ( this diet is so good I never feel hungry and sometimes don’t eat all day! ) watched a concert on TV ( Robbie Williams) He is a crush of mine from days of ‘ yore’ .. :eyebrows:and now I’m catching up with messages etc. I’m good. I’m positive again and .... wait for it.... soo looking forward to a good Christmas!:banana-santa::santa-dance:
@ahipgma the cookie / wedding gift sounds wonderful! what A fab idea ! So pleased you could dance and enjoy the celebrations .. my aim for this year was to dance at my mother in laws 90th birthday celebrations....I’ll do my utmost best..:christmas-carols-smiley-emoticon:
@ChrissyW I also still have shoulder pain so can relate to this .. I’m in denial of ageing and so want it all to ‘ go away’ I suspect I have arthritis in other joints and the strong painkillers must mask the symptoms - stay strong my lovely and I wish for you that the physio excercises help.Post us some pics of your creative icing of cakes? I do like a nicely iced cake!
its late now and I should probably go to bed as I’ve a busy few days ahead
I will pop by later and see how we all are
sending love and hoping for good rest, a comfortable night/ day ahead :loveshwr::flwrysmile::roseshwr:

So glad you are feeling better and were able to get out and about. Ari is with us while her mom and dad go out on a wedding anniversary celebration--- dinner , salsa dancing, overnight at a hotel. Weve watched Rudolph and the Grinch and went out for a walk. It is 47 degrees today and sunny.
50s all week for Christmas predicted. How lucky !
You know as far as my hip surgery goes that pain is gone. But I think my dream of not having to take pain med on a regular basis is just not possible, like you. I tossed and turned with hand pain, outside of the hip pain, scars etc, last night and sleep wasnt great. I take an NSAID morning and Tylenol at night and that works so well! I try not to take it and not so good. I agree that our taking postop pain meds masked other pains
But then there is your colleague with lupus, God bless her and you realize all have our battles, some are harder than ours!
The Big day approaches and I am all wrapped, baked and decorated. I am having eight for dinner. What goodies do you have frozen/ saved for Christmas? @chrissyand @Calgal are you ready? Cant believe it's so close!:wreath:

I'm d.o.n.e - stick a fork in me! :dead:. Finished the last bit of food shopping (for three, yes THREE different dinners! Between family squabbles and unable to synch schedules...ugh!) and last gift wrapped up yesterday. Whew. I managed ok but strangely my scar and especially the 'divot' area I have was quite uncomfortable later that night. Maybe too much carrying of heavy grocery bags or something, but it took paracetamol to quell the niggling pains to let me sleep. First time needed anything in a long time, but OS did say that I'd still have some pains after lots of activity for a good year or so. (He was ALWAYS so honest bless him). Taking it easy now for the next few days. Going to friends house for dinner tonight (yay - no cooking for another day) and then a charity dog walk tomorrow morning with mince pies and mulled wine at the end. :banana-santa:. Glad you are all snug and surrounded by loving family and friends. Wishing us all pain free parts as we celebrate this coming week and dance into 2020. Hugs to you all @Mayhip8, @ChrissyW and @ahipgma. Have a very Merry Christmas!! :wreath:
