Hello all!
I went crazy today and actually went to a place that required walking and got there and realized I left behind my cane at home. And my sunglasses and my sunscreen.... but, anyway we toured Lexington and Concord, the first actual exchange of gunfire in the American Revolution. Along the trail I saw a few gravesites that said "A British soldier is buried here" with a very nice marker and a British flag. I dont think many people see it and think of dear people in the UK who are fellow hippies, though my ancestors all came to the US in the 1910s.
I paced myself and actually did OK.
My new hip did well. Tried to concentrate on how just that side felt and not the pain on the unop side and I'm getting there.
@ChrissyW I hope your new hip is feeling like mine since you need just the one done! @Mayhip8 that is amazing and so interesting you know so much about herbal medicine and such. I do believe it works more gently than the the chemicals in the meds we use, though a good tramadol or codeine or aTylenol had its uses for sure.
Speaking of things that make you feel good. I had a kir royal with prosecco (mayhip 8......yoo hoo) and hub has been enjoying mojitos very much.
Given with bbq pork tenderloin and couscous and a nice fresh salad and chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
Hopefully art museum tomorrow and a drive along the beach.
Oh yes Chrissy 4711 a very bracing cologne. Smells so fresh and clean. I love all by Chanel too. Nos. 5 22, 19, Cristalle, all the oldies but goodies.
Mmmmm.
Love and hugs:loveshwr:

:SUNsmile:Good morning ladies and nice to hear what each and everyone has been ip to. @ahipgma let us know how you feel today having had an eventful walking day plus a kir royale. You are really getting there! @Calgal and @Mayhip8 i too had to chuckle at the tampax reference ( just to point out other brands are available as the BBC adds)
Reason I'm here early is to pose a question to you. How do you feel your pain has changed? I noticed my thigh pain feels different, in a different place this week, to the side of the thigh. It's tighter than the pain I'd been having and feels like it runs down the thigh. I wouldn't say it is pain all the time but was definetly more noticeable during the night, hence the early post! What a journey we are all on. Unique, long and filled with ups a and downs and obviously I'm now just checking that I'm 'normal' in this journey ( getting others to confirm my feelings always feels reassuring and I know there is really no such thing as normal:spin:)
Have a good day and I'm just about to have a steady breakfast before slowly getting ready for work so catch you all later my lovelies xxx:wave::happydance:

Good morning all - A pain and mobilty themed post -
@ ChrissyW you asked a question I have just been contemplating! I'm wondering what other peoples experience of pain is too, at this stage. I am comparing myself to you and @ahipgma - you are managing to do much more than I am at 7&4 days behind you .
I'm reflecting as to whether I am being more sensitive about pain and worrying about it - Or if I perhaps am on a level playing field because of the level of (UN)fitness I was at before my surgery.
(In NOV I had a minor RTA and was incapaced with back pain and spasm needing rest and physio I had only just returned to work full time a month prior to this op)
I felt my left leg pain worsened since inadvertently stretching some tendons and muscles sitting in the car badly on Sunday, and I've gone back to having to have pain relief really regularly especially during the night . I did go for a late evening walk last night and I can definitely feel those muscles to the side of my thigh and like a golf ball stuck in my groin feeling or tightening as if they were going to spasm.
I'm kind of pushing myself gently through it at the minute as I know our bodies are meant to move - I did feel like I was on the verge of the ODIC on Monday and again had to stand for over an hour - or lean against a couch back - at a meeting yesterday ( chairs wrong height to sit on! ) But at eight weeks today I think I need to get going a bit more? I know have Low car seats which is definitely stopping me going out to drive (plus I'm on codeine again ) and I don't have a recliner chair so I tend to rest in my nest in between showering, pottering about, light housework, meal prep etc
Perhaps I need to plan things differently for the next op?
During th night I must have turned too much onto my right side as I woke with pain in my left buttock - I immediately got concerned about crossing the midline and dislocating my left hip! I got up and walked around and whilst it's sore probably mild to moderate pain but I think I'm just stretching things and pulling at things that haven't moved properly for awhile since surgery. I still can't sit an ordinary chair at the right height for more than 15 to 20 minutes without having to move, but then some of that pain is in my right hip also .
I'm also getting some jumping pains in my knee which again I'm guessing is all down to things settling down after surgery.
I can walk a little unaided around the house and have had to because I couldn't lean on my right crutch due to shoulder pain, (which is settling down thankfully.) But walking outside I'm still on two crutches mainly for confidence and safety and again because of knee pain and pain in unoperated leg/hip.
My sleep is sporadic because of spasm and thigh/hip/ shoulder pain and I'm so tired!!

I'm glad you asked a question on this thread Chrissy because as I say it reflected me and my thinking this morning should I be doing more ? should I be better than I am at this stage ? Or is it ' just what it is?"

I'll post later but in the meanwhile have a good safe day everyone and I'd be interested to hear your experiences also :flwrysmile:

Or is it ' just what it is?"
Just that! Your recovery is unlike any other recovery. And recovery from your RTHR will also be totally different. That's just the way it goes. Don't feel pushed into reaching milestones like walking unaided and sitting. It will all come when that hip is ready. And for you - since you are waiting for hip #2 - it may take longer. Hard to heal one side while you are trying to stay off the other! Patience - I know it's very difficult.

Hi ladies
I know we are all different but it's still nice to talk about progress.
Sometimes my pain, occassionally in the groin, feels in the same place as my old pain, well I reason that A: those arthritic surfaces are gone, and B: my xray shows the prosthesis right where it should be.
So it can't really be my old pain, so what is this new pain? And what is this new annoying knee pain I get from time to time?
As someone said here they manhandle you a bit during your surgery and also my understanding is that the way you carry yourself to avoid the pain can cause the way you weight bear to shift before the surgery so all that is shifting back around.
I believe its muscle pain, also because I know I guard my not done side so the muscles all around it are stiffening up and losing their range of motion, and my new hip can do more stuff but the muscles around it aren't used to it anymore, hence the pain that moves all around on my new hip depending on what I did that day.
As for doing more, that's such a subjective thing and some hips had more damage than others.
My new hip just feels more secure, I'm not nearly as concerned with dislocation anymore, I think you will get there Dear @Mayhip8 and I will say this. My life was becoming so limited and still is by my undone side that however long it takes for me to be totally mended, I did the right thing. It is frustrating though.
Wish I could be there and we could hobble out together. I think we're all going to get there with patience and perseverance!
:console2:love and hugs

@Mayhip8 and @ahipgma I don't envy you two having to still put up with pain in the unoperated side! I think that must surely be an obstacle to your healing path, not least because it saps your energy and deprives you of good restful sleep. Both of you please take it easy and keep those pain meds and ice on the go as needed. @ChrissyW and i just have our 1 side to deal with, yet we obviously still have pains here and there too. I've been diligently icing each night this week,since I've been walking more and therefore feeling more uncomfortable than last few weeks. I don't think of it as s setback, just something inside my leg telling me it's working hard (and hopefully healing). Healing hugs to you all.

Good afternoon one and all. like @Jaycey says we are all very different and each body does its own thing so to say. I still can't move from my back to sleep and I'm very much of the if it happens it will if not I'll just sleep this way. I'm still taking pain relief (paracetamol) during the night and do have a tramadol at night with my paracetamol. I was telling colleagues that my body felt tired today, post heavy workout tired so I took it as easy as possible and relaxed as soon as I got home. I also iced before setting off this morning for a good 40 mins. I was also prescribed anti depressants (she thought my sleeping problems were not only caused by pain) when I saw my GP 2 weeks ago but I want to come off them as they have massively increased my appetite, I could eat a gingerbread town never mind house or to be honest any carb heavy items I can find and not giving in is really hard. I've done more research and it's a documented side effect so I don't think I need them, my sleep is no better than with just the herbal nytol ( she said this type also helped sleep) and I'd get more dressed if I gained too much weight due to previous issues. Like I always tell students we all have our uniqueness and should never compare ourselves to others, we should do what is right for us and work to our best and I genuinely believe this applies here with our recoveries too. @Mayhip8 what with being in limbo re next surgery date and the attitude shown to you at your 6 week check up (it still bugs me clearly!!) along with your shoulder playing up I think your doing fab. Perhaps another virtual vacation is on the cards. Should we go and surprise @ahipgma ? She could get the kir royales on ice for us xxx

Once again I'm a little teary :boohoo:
But mainly from the care and compassion shown towards me today from everyone who has taken time to respond . Thankyou :angel:
I'm in pain and I don't know why I expect not to be! I'm tired :zzz: yet restless . @ahipgma I understand what your'e experiencing too - as a patient I am worried and concerned and as a nurse I can ' see' the anatomy and rationalise what's happening. I am impatient .
@Calgal Thankyou for your kind words and advice -I've spent today trying to keep occupied and have taken analgesia - I've been up and about then rested with ICE I've taken a load of more fluids today just in case I'm dehydrated. I've eaten lots of fruit because I was bored!!! I looked after my son who has a virus - he's ok but keeping his sneezes away from me!! :scaredycat:
I've made lasagna and apple crumble - comfort food .
Climbed up and downstairs so many times - ( fluids!!)
Been for an evening walk and fun chats with my daughter ( she's soooooo funny and we make up fantastical stories on our walks )
Had a warm and comforting shower then splashed cold water ' my god that's freezing but it might help- sharp intake of breath'
Am aching and feel twitchy - I have one diazepam left and hope it works to settle my muscles!
I need to speak to my GP tommorow I think - I feel up in the air about my other hip and I guess it has affected my mood @ChrisyW I'm reluctant to take meds - sometimes they take a while to kick in and side effects can be worrying -it's a risk/ benefit conversation isn't it?
I think your idea of surprising @ahipgma would be just the tonic ! I'd love a KIr Royale please :martini:
@ahipgma well done for continuing with your tour despite forgetting your things! Be careful won't you? I guess the celebrations will be underway soon?
I going to call it a night now and send love and thanks to you all
I hope we find comfort and reasonable rest
Big hugs back atcha':console2::tada::loveshwr::loveshwr:

Good morning. and have a great 4th July @ahipgma and I'm expecting you do some celebrating too @Calgal. I think @Mayhip8 and I will have to join in the celebrations so give us some tips on traditions. A wonderful, healing day to all. My achy thigh is still definetly moving towards hurting, feeling more like a pulled muscle so will be icing when possible I think. Ciao for now xx

:dancy::happydance::wave:Happy Fourth!
Blessed to be here in this wonderful, frustrating, crazy, wild land I call home.
And to be in the city where it all started, well, one of them.
Hope no ones hips feel like firecrackers today!
Last night we went out to celebrate my nieces graduation. Had ravioli and a delicious spinach salad and a strange sangria with a sprig of lavender in it, of all things. And for dessert little parfaits in flavors like chocolate marshmallow and pecan pie.
Went to one of the little islands close to Boston, and walked a little and took in the sights of the boats and the sea.
My SIL is a member of the museum of fine arts so I was determined to see the American and European art.
My bad hip was hurting at the end but the beautiful art was worth it.
So here it is the last full day we are here.
The Fourth is mostly about cooking out and watching fireworks ,celebrating and speeches. From here on all things summer will be on sale at the stores so shoppers will go nuts for bargains. Back to school and off to college sales in high gear!
It's a day to count blessings of faith and freedom, we are such a melting pot here,and I for one am counting you among my blessings! Also the great fortune to have access to healing surgery and medicines to ease the healing.
My hub has done missionary work to third world and tells me all are not so lucky!
So have a good day as your hips allow. Hope all are well.
Love and hugs!:loveshwr:

join in the celebrations so give us some tips on traditions.
It's 4th of July! A day off to celebrate by sitting around doing absolutely nothing, usually outdoors, surrounded by family and friends and copious amounts of food (BBQ if course) and booze! So my UK hipsters, join in the fun! I'm celebrating with a BBQ tonight of big ribeye steaks and my beloved mom's recipe famous potato salad with fresh potatoes dug up from my garden yesterday. (my husband's sons think it's amazing - like nothing here because it's got lots more than potatoes and mayo in it. Include chopped celery, onion, gherkins, pickle relish, tomatoes, black olives and hard boiled eggs. ) My family always had hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, coleslaw, corn on cob, watermelon and strawberry pie. Washed down with cokd beer. :cheers: But tonight it's red wine. Or maybe a Pimm's, just to acknowledge the contributions of the British to this day. :giggle:
So ya'all get outside and forget our aches and pains and pig out!!!
Just had my 6 week OS check today - so it's my hip independence day of sorts. Cleared to try driving, ok to swim but still be careful of hip precautions - no kneeling or getting down on the floor yet. (He is quite cautious). Hubby ordered a hot tub yesterday so come Monday hopefully I'll be able to try it out. Hoping your day is pain free and care free today my lovelies. :happydance:

Lovely to hear what bestows the 4th July celebrations! That potato salad sound yummy and that, along with a BBQ is definetly a mouthwatering dinner. Sadly it's dull and cold here but there was no planned bbq as its fish and salad for our evening meal and perhaps an ice cream as a treat after. Hope your day has been good, and fab 6wk news @Calgal . @Mayhip8 are you feeling like an honorary member of the 4th July club? Any ideas what we could use to replicate fireworks? :happydance:

Happy 4th July :wave:
:wowspring:Last nights supper sounds wonderful @ahipgma :beer: And that potato salad sounds divine
@Calgal I'll be outside now!
There's nothing better than shared food and company in celebration of family friends and freedom- as you say @ahipgma - we are truley blessed to enjoy the lives we have and I for one am so grateful and happy we have each other for support - it has made such a vast difference to my day to day and overall recovery .:roseshwr:
I'm so pleased you have been able to enjoy this time away making fabulous memories too!
@ChrissyW let's just download some firework apps and shout "ohhhhh"..."ahhhhhhhhh"... Woooowwwww "or I could light my wood fire it's that cool here at the moment!! I'd enjoy a glass of red and a little partaay!
Was work ok today? Has the chair helped with your leg pain?
I'm good today - I slept well as I took a therapeutic dose of meds last night - my pain is back under control and I've had a good day as my sister popped round and we spent the day together
I spoke with my GP and will see how I feel in a few days.
Great news about your Post op review @Calgal a hot tub sounds like a proper treat! as does your ice cream ChrissyW
I've not needed to cook tonight as daughter at school choir in prize giving evening
Son self cater d with pizza
Hubby still full from lunch
And I'm having last nights left overs ! Yey!! More lasagna! :dancy:
Enjoy the celebrations and evening hipsisters :egypdance::flwrysmile:
:roseshwr::loveshwr:

Oooh, ahhhh pretty fireworks!!:yahoo:
@Mayhip8 i ended up working an extra hour today as there was a minor crisis just as I was about to leave that I needed to sort. I'm feeling it now though. I'm tired, legs feel like jelly but I can't stop flaying them around as they are annoying me and I'm doing my utmost to resist bed but I'm giving in soon:yawn:. Hubby has told me off and said regardless what comes up tomorrow I need to leave on time. I wish we could say we felt wobbly because of celebrations and wine bug unfortunately no it's just the joys of recovery. Catch everyone tomorrow and hopefully we all sleep soundly, comfortably and with no interruptions from any ache, pain or twinge or is that just going a bit too far! :sleep:
:mooncat:

@ChrissyW - "the wine bug " :heehee: in all my days I've never heard of this ! Really made me chuckle ! I hope your legs settled and you managed to sleep - one more day at school and then it's weekend. This year is flying by - you'll soon be on that cruise with sea legs instead of jelly legs :kayak::swim:
Those fireworks and BBQ evening were fabby - now the early morning smells of smoke and beer and forgotten baked bananas...
I'm awake as I have been gifted a cold type virus - just the thing to distract me from feeling pain! Now I have a raw nose throat/streaming eyes,headache and hot lemon and honey addiction to go with everything else! As once famously uttered by Mr Hugh Grant is evert one of his films .. ""B**ger
These things are sent to try us .... This too shall pass...
Well then
Off I pop , back to sleep,
Laters loveliest hippy sisters :sleeep::sleeep:

A quick morning to you all and to you @Mayhip8 i think it's this weird weather as last week I was sneezy and sniffly with a sore throat and hubby swiftly followed (obviously he got man flu,) I'm struggling to regulate my house temperature never mind my own with heating on heating off, like my own personalised karate kid! You take care, bathe in honey and lemon if need be, well honey has amazing healing qualities so it may help the hip pains so do let me know if you indulge :heehee: and avoid the wine bug ( sometimes that pesky thing just gets in your head a bit like a brain worm!) glad to introduce you to my personal, modern day entomology!) just to update you my achy thigh that now feels like pulled muscle or post marathon legs still feels the same, I'm working on the principle it is just saying 'what the hecks going on now' a bit like us each day!:rotfl:
@ahipgma and @Calgal hope your celebrations yesterday were uplifting and @ahipgma are you road tripping today? If so safe journey.
Hugs to you all and I'll check in after work for my update:flwrysmile:

Friday evening and the sun is shining :SUNsmile:
Chippy tea!
Currently in bed with temp of 38.7 and wondering just "why?" ( drama queen:shocked:)
Slept through 3 consecutive episodes of 'Gentleman Jack '
Been up for walks when I can stay awake
Drinking tea and water and planning next round of honey and lemon- I'd loooove a tot of whiskey in there but alas that will have to a wait ....
Have a fabby Friday evening all and safe journey home @ahipgma @ChrissyW have a good rest after your second week back at work ( nice one :egypdance:) @Calgal hope the sun shines in your part of the U.K. too as you chill and continue your ace recovery
Mwah :loveshwr::roseshwr:
