:bored:@Julie_MN I am having one of those nights! I was really tired today so thought I'd settle in for an early (for me) night of 9pm. Slept like a log for 1 hour, now wide awake after bathroom dash. Nurse brought me a fresh ice
pack, and think I'll be up reading for a while. Thank goodness for this forum - always someone going through the same problems.
I'm going home tomorrow - yea!:yay: Hope I'll settle in to home routine and getting the meds at the right times etc.
I'm a non-back sleeper too, have found the adjustable hospital bed a help, but know I'll have problems getting
comfortable at home. Will have pillows everywhere!
@fearbox - I have OA of the left knee so I have that taped or wear a brace to try and keep it stable. All the tossing and turning to find a comfortable spot doesn't help! @JulieJF Hope you get to enjoy a shower soon,
it's quite a comfort.

Wow it must definitely been a hippy moon last night! I am 4months on, with a bit of aches and pains but all okay really. Then last night could not sleep at all worrying about loosening or dislocations based on nothing at all!

I like @librarylyn 's toddler concept I remember in February thinking okay I have been patient . I have relaxed . I have been a good Patient but now I have had enough I want my reward NOW it is a roller coaster but what I find amazing is that these critical issues do become history
Look after yourself I think you are I the period of needing tender loving care x

This predictive texting is dangerous "look after yourself " became "dislike yourself" thank god I noticed it before sending

@buzzybee

Hospitals just aren't restful places. Although I generally slept pretty well in hospital, I still found myself needing to read for 20 minutes or pop onto this forum at bizarre hours of the night. Hopefully that gets better for you at home!

Fearbox, I hope you enjoyed the nicer weather this today. I sat the the porch a couple of times just enjoying the sunshine. We live in Apple Valley, I don't think we are far from each other.

I walked on the treadmill today, did 1/10th of a mile, and did it standing up straight. As I'm sure you know walking standing up is quite the challenge.

When does your bandage come off? I see the PA on Wednesday and hope they remove the bandage then. It looks like clear tape is on top of the incision, hope that comes off as well.

Hope you are doing well, and rest well this evening.

Going to get some dinner. Hope you all are able to rest this evening.
Will check in tomorrow.

I did enjoy the weather yesterday. Today it's going to be pretty muggy and some storms. We are definitely close. My husband and I go to that Old Chicago all the time, in Apple Valley. Im looking forward to being able to go out and enjoying dinner soon with my husband.
Just out of curiosity where did you have your surgery? I went to Fairview in Burnsville. It would be crazy if we went to the same place.
I'm going to the Dr. on Monday to get the bandage off. I'm looking forward to starting my PT as well. I will be doing my PT in the pool. That is by far the most beneficial for me. Plus I love my PT therapist. They are wonderful. They have been with me for the past 2 years. It's nice to go to someone that has been thru the entire journey with you, 3 surgeries and 2 new hips later. I'm hoping to get off the crutches soon. It's hard to not cross the line of doing too much.
I am thankful for this forum. It is so nice to talk with people who know and understand what you're going thru. Have a wonderful day

GM Julie, I hope you survived the storms yesterday. We had a few heavy rains, but not the wind and hail they predicted. I think today is going to be a whopper of day as well.

I had my surgery done at Woodbury hospital, loved the staff and care I received there. My surgeon is Dr Wickhum with Summit Orthopedics, so far I'm pleased with his care. Hoping after my recheck with him at 6 weeks I never see him again. lol

Pool therapy sounds wonderful! I go to my first PT on Tuesday and am a bit nervous about it. I've been pretty good about doing my PT, but will admit I have not done it 3 times a day like they told me to. We have a small exercise room where I live and I have been on the treadmill 3 times. I'm going to try to walk on it every morning, it seems to help to take the stiffness out.

I hope you were able to rest and that you have a great day.

My OS Is Dr. Hartman from Twin Cities Orthopedics. He did both hips. The Hospital nurses were amazing. They have a brand new Orthopedic floor. Excellent care there!

Yesterday I did what I could to get my niece ready for her senior prom. It was a lot of laughs and fun. The bummer part of the day is I bent wrong and think I slipped a disc in my lower back! So the timing can't be worse. Good thing I see my OS tomorrow. I'm sure I will get my PT appts all lined up. I also have been hAving a bit of groin pain. I'm just wondering if the nerves are just ticked off? Again seeing the doc tomorrow is a great thing.

Time to watch the Twin with my ice packs. Enjoy your Sunday all.

Oh you poor thing! I'm so glad you are seeing the Dr. tomorrow. Please let me know what they say about the groin pain, as I've had that a few times. Doesn't last long and certainly is not preop pain, just enough to get my attention.

Went out birding for a bit today. The fresh air was nice and glad to look at something besides the inside walls.
Will be so glad to get this all over with, tonight I'm wishing it was a sprint and not a marathon.

Hope your are able to rest this evening.

Not feeling so bionic this morning. Getting discouraged and wondering how long it will be till I feel normal again. Maybe I had unrealistic expectations for myself. I just imagined at almost 2 weeks pre op I would be further along than I am. Granted I'm feeling better than I did pre op, and better than I did a week ago, was just hoping for more this far along . . . . .

Julie_MN

You sound like me. But as I've been told time and time again. You are ONLY 2 weeks out of a MAJOR surgery. Give yourself a break. Go by the BoneSmart mantra.
You can come on here and vent all you want. So many of us are in the same boat. I feel the same way but then I give myself an attitude adjustment and remember this was a really big surgery and I will get better as time goes on.
I hope you feel better soon. Take it from someone who totally gets it. You absolutely will progress as your body heals.

@Julie_MN,
I went to my OS today to get off my bandage and staples out. All went well. He says I am right on track and also said it's a balance between walking and resting. Giving your body time to rest, but walking is the best. Plus I start PT on Wed. He also said the groin and buttock pain isn't uncommon. It will go away in time. I guess I had quite a bit of arthritis in there. He said its normal and nothing to worry about. I see him again in a month for X-Rays. He told me PT will help with my lower back. I know it will. My guy is wonderful.
Hope you are having a better day.

Rest well,

Kris in MN

Hi Julie_MN!
I had my hip replaced 2 days after you! Me too issues sleeping at night. i feel trussed up like a turkey with the pillow between my legs, a body pillow to my left, a smaller pillow on my right side.. it definitely helps to have a small pillow under my back. i keep an "actvity"bag near by with Iphone, Nook, Smithsonian Mag, Remote for the clock radio. It's comforting to know these things are close at hand to help me get back to sleep.
Congrats on the OS visit and the great report! Keep on walking and resting- yes that seems to be the best!

@Lore O and @Julie_MN

I suffered with insomnia for many years (I could fall asleep after reading for awhile, but sure as clockwork, I'd wake up at 3:00 am, no matter what time I fell asleep), until my doctor gave me Trazadone 100 mg (which is considered a low dose) to take at bedtime. He said it was not habit forming and I've never had to up the dosage. For the past three years I've been sleeping like a baby. It basically keeps you asleep rather than putting you to sleep. I thought you might run it by your doctors and see if it's something worth trying.

Hi Kris, so glad your appointment went well. Must be a HUGE thrill to have the staples out and the bandage off.

My mood is better today, I actually slept till 630 this morning, that is a first post op.

Today I have PT at 4pm and am excited to get going.

Hope you have a good day.

Hi Lore,

I keep my trusty iPad on the bed, not sure how I would make it thru recovery without. When I wake during the night I try to fall back asleep but if I can't it's nice to have the distraction.

Looks like you had your surgery 1 day after me. How are you doing?

Thanks Cynthia for the suggestion, I'll certainly keep it in mind. :)

Hi Lore,
That is great you are doing so well.
I think the fatigue is pretty normal, I know I usually doze on the couch for about an hour in the late morning or early afternoon. Remember we are in a marathon, not a sprint. Slow and easy is the name of the game. :)
My pain is certainly nothing like it was pre op and gets better every day. I'm still using the pain pills, I'm a wimp, but am tapering off of them. I'm hoping in another week to be off of them.
Have you started seeing your physical therapist yet?

4am wake up call from pain. Might have been the new exercises from PT, might have been I turned wrong in my sleep. Come on meds kick in.

My partner travels for work leaving today and returning on Friday. I would never say it to her, but I'm a bit nervous going solo for the next few days.
