THR Ldm right hip replacement recovery

Do you mind sharing what these are?
Hi @Mojo333, I haven’t done any ankle slide, or slides to the side, or any of the exercises the physio gave me in hospital. The new exercises she gave me were squats among other exercise, and I thought really. The most annoying thing is anyone that struggles are thinking they are not doing enough when they are most probably doing too much.
Any exercises done in replication 3 X per day this early out, in my opinion, is just stressing healing soft tissue.
Exactly, just causing more inflammation and will cause more pain.
Well, I won't depress you with how long it took before I got a good night's sleep
it’s been the worst part this time, when I had my left hip done in 2018 i was trying to keep ahead of the pain. I don’t remember having as much trouble sleeping.

im sure I’m ahead in this recovery due to lack of pain. Still early days so being sensibl.

With my second I did the ankle pumps and walks. Guess which recovery went better, the one where I kept exercise and pain to a minimum.
Exactly the approach I’m taking. when my left hip was replaced in 2018 I definitely remember pain, I did little exercise and followed the same approach, and a little baffled as to Whats going on, but not complainin.
Walking without an aid at 2 weeks is uncommon
i can’t remember when I walked unaided last time but know for a fact it wasn’t 2 weeks, but was that due to more pain? I don’t know. Surgeon did say he has had other cases with little or no pain. I do wonder if the CBD I was taking beforehand has helped with this.

As I said I have no intention of walking around until I feel completely ready, I do a few steps unaided and then the crutch comes back into play.

Slow and steady wins this race.

If I had nickel for everytime I have seen members struggle with this concept....

Week 3 update. I have been going out for walks started at 15 minutes and now walking for about 30 minutes. i walk with 1 crutch outside, more for support when I start flagging. At home, I walk around the kitchen doing stuff without any aids, but if I find myself starting to limp the crutch comes back into play. I
Always stop walking before I know I’m done for. Home, feet up and ice. I did get a little complacent on Monday and Tuesday and did not ice as much, definitely noticed that there was a small amount of swelling.
Started a small amount of exercise just to stop any stiffness and that has helped a lot. The best news started sleeping on my side with a pillow to stop legs crossing over, really nervous at first but have had no problems at all. It was bliss, sleeping so much better and feeling better.

Still getting tired but this is all normal. Hoping for more small improvements going into next week.

@Ldm380 This is such a great update. I'm so happy things are progressing smoothly. It sounds like you're doing just the right amount of walking as your hip is not complaining. You forget how wonderful it is to sleep in your favorite position...until you can't! Lol. I remember how glorious it was to finally be able to sleep on my side again. Just keep doing what you're doing, rest when you can, and you know those improvements will come, even if it's slower than we might like. Blessings for continued good recovery. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Week 4 update. i have been out walking each day, always take a crutch with me. Walking easier.

Thursday I did 20/25 min walk unaided. No pain nothing. Great, Friday walking around at home unaided, housework etc. I didn’t get out for a walk but as I was doing so much at home didn’t think one day would matter.
Saturday, this is where it starts going down hill, woke up a bit stiff and sore, stiffness on getting out of bed normal until I start moving. I moved, having to use a crutch, and I didn’t want to make it worse. I didn’t get out for a walk today as it just hasn’t stopped raining but walked around at home, each time using the crutch. I was out in the evening for a meal with friends, and sitting down was very uncomfortable, stiff and sore. I kept getting up to have a walk in between courses, but boy was I glad to get home to ice and pain killers.

I’m hoping that taking it easy next couple of days will sort things out. I feel as if I have gone backwards, from even a few days ago. Always made sure when out walking that I never over did it ( or so I thought). I am wondering if I’m stiff due to not getting outside to walk, or weather walking 2 days in a row unaided was a bit too much, but I had no pain or anything so didn’t think anything of it.
Saturday will keep updated as to how everything settles down.

The ODIC happens before you feel anything while you are doing it. If you get to the point where you feel it while you're doing it you will really feel it later or the next day. All it takes is activities that put any strain on the muscles, carrying or lifting anything will do it. Any odd movements or positions can do it early on.

@Eman85 i really was hoping not to be part of that club. Lesson learnt. I’m going to take it easy, stop being inpatient.

Stopping by to wish you a Happy One Month Anniversary, but I'm guessing you're not feeling in a celebratory mood given your latest update. I am sorry you landed in the ODIC. I hope with rest and ice you're feeling better quickly. Wishing you much comfort and a peaceful day. :console2:
@Ldm380

Welcome to ODIC, you are now a distinguished member! No worries, these setbacks usually right themselves as long as we rest, ice and remember how we were inducted into the club.
Stay well and hope you feel better soon!

All we can do is try not to be impatient, it's a struggle! I've renewed my ODIC membership so many times it's ridiculous. I can give good advice but I'm not a good one to follow some of it. I can bet that today when I get going I'll do something I shouldn't and I will feel it in one of my hips.
