While sleeping last night I was awakened by the sound of a cat crying sounded in the night sleepy like a cougar then it stopped and worried maybe the cat had been hurt sounded like it was in pain and then it started to growl wondered what was happening sound was coming from our neighbors yard they do not have a cat. Sat by the window for a few minutes we have owls around our house they live in the neighbors yard across from us their yard is like a preserve lots of wildlife and wondered if something had caught the poor cat.

Sat for a few minutes and then the cat appeared walking slow from out of the next door yard and then understanding that the reason he may have been crying is that there was a skunk in the yard with him or her and being the yard is small they would have been close together. Did not smell the skunk he was sitting just below our window and wondering how the cat got away without being sprayed but happy no spray on the cat and no spray coming through our window.

Lots of bunnies back where we live and possums, racoons. One year about 8 years back I woke up early and came down to have a cup of tea summer and about 5:30 am we did not have to work the night before so nice to get up and get an early start to our day off. Looking out past our fence outside our front door noticing a shape behind our wooden fence out to our front sidewalk and thought quick glance it was a bird peaking up until I realized it was actually a deer right in the middle of the city walking up and down the asphalt path out front still feeling sleepy thought I was imagining it but had to tell my husband still thought I was seeing things.

The deer was walking back and forth and then jumped worried he would get hurt if he walked out to the road it was a Sunday morning and very quiet still no one else seemed to be awake then he ran down to the end of our path disappeared behind another row of townhouses and then gone. We walked out our path to the street we live on and one side of a the bus shelter had been broken wondered if he had tried to go through it and no sign of the deer took a walk around but where did he go.

I always think of these things as what if I had slept in that day never would have had the chance to see this deer while we were working we would have been at work still till 8 am so would have missed him wonder if he had ever come before this. We walked around the corner to the nearby gas station and asked if they had seen the deer go by and think they thought we had imagined it happy my husband was my witness or maybe I would have thought I had dreamed it to.

Wonder how far he came to get to our house and wondered if he had lived at the Wildlife center where the geese and ducks and other wildlife had lived before the centre was broken into. The owners of this preservation park decided that they could no longer protect the safety of the wildlife that were kept in their enclosures so all were released some of the geese in our park still have the band on their legs that were used to tract their migration habits. This place was visited by kids on school trips and my parents used to take us there as kids.

Where we live used to be on the outskirts of our city near the country still but who would expect a deer to be in your yard. Neat just really neat. Holly

@lavender We have a lot of wildlife around here too. We have a peach tree in our back yard that the deer love, raccoons like the food I put out for a stray cat that we have been feeding. One of the raccoons has lost it's tail somehow. We have lots of squirrels and birds too. Here is a photo of some baby deer in our yard a few years ago:

@marmora and @lavender The babies were so cute, the momma deer would drop them off in our back yard and run off and do their thing then come back and pick them up later in the day. I guess we were the fawn sitters.
They would just run and play all over the yard and sniff at everything. Didn't have any babies in the yard that I know of this year.

Hi @tiredwife Your picture of the fawns is so beautiful showed my husband he liked it to. Their momma must think she is placing them where they will be safe . Thanks for sharing this is the closest up view of a fawn I have ever seen. The deer outside of our front door was much larger but must have been a female no antlers.

I remember seeing deer at the wildlife park that was in our city walking along through the woody paths but this is a lovely view.

We have a place near us called preservation park. It is protected land no building no cars no roads going through it . Someone actually put in a request to allow them to build a house there and thank goodness the city did not allow this to go through lots of wildlife there all natural it is supposed to be preserved for ever and one day we were walking down from the mall we worked in and over the road and down deep into the park that sits just before this park lots of pathways and lots of trees and a large natural pond quite a big piece of land and just before crossing into the preservation park across the road we saw a deer and her fawn she moved the little one into the shade of the trees to try to stop from being seen and until a skunk crossed the path just a bit up ahead of us we would not have looked up and would have missed seeing them. We used to walk these trails every chance we had until my knees started to make the long walks more difficult to do no where to sit if you needed to rest but so beautiful.

Just love nature and how many parks we have of this type where we live lots of expansions for new housing areas have been built but still so thankful that someone had insight that has allowed so many of these parks to remain protected hoping this never changes. Your fawns are beautiful and must love coming to spend time in your yard. Hope you are having a nice weekend Holly

Hi @vallee I agree not crazy to want this done just want the best for movement from our knees and hoping this will help to make them feel like they once did. The pain is gone in my right knee now lots of pain after surgery but forgotten how much it hurt as they results were well worth it now looking back. Have you been given a date for your surgery hope you are not having to wait much longer. I now I am feeling so ready to have my surgery and know how much my right knee surgery has helped time is going fast and know it will be here before I know it. Such a beautiful autumn we are having hope the weather keeps going this way so lovely..

Hi @Minnie's knees
I Hope you having a great weekend to and have you had any more information about a surgery date for your knee hope you will not have to wait much longer know I am getting anxious. This summer we had enough rain that we did not have to water our garden that often. Usually most of the rain fell overnight some really heavy downpours and thunderstorms but we needed rain so badly to the sun was very hot but not humid this summer and the soil seemed to dry out really quick but the rain was needed.

I am finding myself planning what to get ready taking less to the hospital this time just a little bag with my soap and stuff just a tiny one that I can put on the table in front of me so easy to reach so when needed can get it myself.

I am feeling very happy to have my date and no longer waiting to get a call always seem to call when we are not home so all set there. Have everything for coming home I will need and just need a bath chair but still lots of time for that.

Time is going fast almost October and just need to get an oil change for our car, a few medical appointments calling my dentist and making sure when my last appointment was 9 months falls on the same day if I have figured it out right as my surgery date so no rush will go in the spring.

Hope the time goes fast not feeling nervous just very ready feeling so happy that I decided to go through with this hope all goes well. Wishing all a great weekend and off to the park tomorrow if the weather is good and love to go so much. Today was the last day for the little train in our park and the Merry go round will be closed up for the winter to but this summer has been the best. Holly

@lavender I love when they leave areas natural and protected so that the animals have a place to go that is safe. I tried really hard not to startle the fawns. We don't have a dog and 3 sides of the yard are fenced (no fence up by the house) so the fawns are pretty safe. Steve just saw a baby raccoon on our front porch a few minutes ago. It was by itself, hope nothing happened to its mama. He said it was smaller than our smallest cat.
You will have your new knee before you know it!

Hi @tiredwife We are lucky where we live in our city there are so many parks on protected land. Our city has grown a bit over the past few years so many new homes have been built on land that was once farm land and now noticing that we are seeing more that have probably found that the home they once lived in is now where houses are standing.

Still so many places within minutes of our home that you can walk and not too far away from a number of conservation parks that you can go to to swim or just picnic and take in the scenery. Hoping they never build on these places but land has been preserved and promises they will stay that way. Hoping the little baby racoon is not lost and has a mama still so many of these raccoons are seen on the highways feel so bad seeing them so many get hit by cars trying to cross the road in the dark.

Growing up we had many wander into our yard tiny kittens and cats who were so in need of someone to love and fed them and help them to get back on their feet . My Mom always made sure she left food for them and our first was Harvey a tiny little kitten that came with the raccoons they left him almost like they knew he would be taken care of a

He was so small probably not even 6 weeks old and so needing to be taken care of. He had lost the top part of his wee tail from what we were told they believed malnutrition at a time he should have had his mom. My Mom spent time swabbing his tail with cream she was given to keep him from infection very difficult as he had not yet learned to trust but she did it it took a while till he would come up close to the door he did not know people... We had a wicked picnic basket that we took on picnics and she lined it with a soft towel and a dish of food and he crawled in to eat and this was what he travelled in. Looking at his tail from a distance she knew he would need help just a tiny piece was attached to the stub which came away so he travelled to the university to see a vet.

While on a visit to the university she was told to put him to sleep he would never be a pet we were told he was too wild. He did become our family and became the first of a few more cats that would be members of our family. My Mom said he was wrong how could he be so cold and then getting ready to take him home this little baby crawled up my Moms arm and buried his tiny head in her neck he seemed to know it would be alright and he lived for 22 years he was our first cat. He knew he would was in the right place and he was such a lovely guy a tabby and followed my brother where he went ducking behind houses as he went.

Animals seem to know where they are safe and a wonderful judge of people and must feel safe in your yard instinct that you are kind and will not hurt them. My husband and I love animals and sometimes people forget that they have the same needs we do we are not that different in so many ways.

I hope the little raccoon is not separated from his mama they learn so much from their families and so many do get abandoned. I do believe they know where to go when they need help and must know he is safe with you.

Looking forward to my knee surgery and know things will work out alright my surgeon is a very caring man and I will be in good hands.

So nice that you care for animals to how much we can learn from them and good there are safe places where someone cares and thanks for caring . Holly

Tomorrow is my doctors appointment just a quick check on the effect of the new medication he prescribed for me for my blood pressure in place of the other medications. Excited to be able to tell him that I have a date for surgery he was happy to hear that I was now on the waiting list and now a date. My family doctor helps out with knee replacement surgeries he assists another surgeon during surgeries and is aware of how much is involved knows how much this surgery is needed and says I am brave to go through it wow he said this surgery is major and not everyone could go through what we all do and handle it as well as we all have. Hi @Pumpkln I will tell him. I always make a point of letting him know how much he is appreciated. Our family doctor is wonderful he takes time with us and runs his practice although it is probably large like my family doctor did so many years ago old fashioned values and he cares. I forgot to ask him last time when their baby is due as on the visit before he told me that they were expecting soon and it will be their third child.

One day a week he assists at our hospital with knee replacements so he knows what it is all about. He assists another surgeon and told him wish he could be at my surgery. Fortunate to deal with all good specialists and a great doctor my husband and I are very lucky and thankful for that. For more then four years we were without a doctor and fell into the best place we could have now. Hope your knee is being good and hope you have a nice week. Holly

It's great when you have a doc who likes general medicine. You hear of so many young docs who want to go into more lucrative specialties.

Today we are home stayed in and took it easy. It is beautiful outside today but did not sleep last night not feeling well woke up came down tried to eat something thought I was hungry but went back to bed soon after. We were gong to do a few things but just not feeling well so caught up on some sleep and watched a movie and now going back up to have sleep and see if this helps. Feeling achy and little weak so today is an inside day. Hoping to feel better tomorrow have an appointment with our doctor and a few other thing. Not sure why feeling this way but maybe it is the flu hope not. Not sick often but guess it happens and hoping it does not last long. Holly

@lavender Loved the story about your little tabby growing up! Your mom was wonderful to care that much!
Hope you are feeling better? Hope it isn't the flu! Sounds like you have a great doctor. Our doctor is Air Force and we really like him. He is impressed by how well hubby is walking now and he told us he is glad he doesn't have to inject his knee any more.

Hi @tiredwife Thank you for your nice post. Yes little Harvey was amazing never really noticed he just had a tiny tail it was the way he was such a beautiful boy he was. I spent most of today sleeping got up for a try at having something to eat at supper time but most of today slept . It is so nice when you have a doctor you are comfortable with ours is great and takes time to explain things so lucky to have him no matter what he has to tell you he makes you feel he will take care of things. Must make you feel so nice to see that your husband has come along so well and having both surgeries so close together would be hard but great that all is going along so positively and wishing him the best for all to keep going smooth. Going back to bed had a bath feel a bit better not sure if I just had too much sun or why but hoping to feel better tomorrow for my doctors appointment. Wishing you a great day tomorrow and hard to believe that it is almost October. Holly
