TKR Late Bloomer<

I agree with Tabbycat. There will be good days and there will be bad days. Sometimes more bad than good. But, before you know it, the good days will start outnumbering the bad ones. Just don't let the bad ones get you down. I know it's hard not to. I am one of the worst ones to get down over the bad ones! But, I know the good ones are coming up! And so are yours!

So happy I could (try ) to jump for joy. Made it to 100 ROM today on my own without assistance. Again I feel that just leaving things happen naturally have been the correct route to go. Thank you for all your good advice on not pushing myself. It's a slow process, but a process and I am making headway.........finally, had to find some patience with myself also.

Yes! Wonderful! Our bodies know what's best for us! Slow is better than stopped, like can happen when pt abuses you!

Good for you! It is hard to be patient when you want to get on with your life, but there's nothing to do that can hurry the process along. Stay patient...

Well tomorrow is the first day back to work full time. Had p/t this morning and it's going better, I'm moving better in general other than my slight limp when walking and my hobbling upon rising up and taking those first few steps. I don't notice it, but my husband claims at least in his presence I continue to walk peg legged, is this something that I will automatically over come, or should I make a effort to over come this?
Another issue today is that darn incision, the p/t cleaned it and did a wonderful job with it the other day, looked the best it has in a very long time, for a few days last week the drainage seemed to stop but by the end of the week it was having slight drainage again. I have tried using butterfly strips on it to pull it together, the P/T doesn't nor do I feel it's infected, but was concerned that maybe some kind of medication should maybe be used to help in the healing. So they have a call into the surgeon( it's his day off.) and I called the surgeon also as I became concerned. When you ask questions and the answers seem vague it worries me. So the receptions got in touch with me, we set up an appt, but it may be just a matter of getting some medication, not sure if it will be something for on the wound itself or to be taken by mouth. It is taking for ever for this to heal so if there is someway to hurry the process along that would be great, my biggest fear is infection and having the joint affected.

It does seem strange that you still have drainage. I do think the OS should look at it. I hope that it is something that can be easily taken care of.

Hopefully, it's just a stitch working it's way up and out.

Good idea checking it out, but in the meantime, so happy to hear of the rom improvement! What good news. Congratulations.

Yes, very happy with the progress I am currently making, that is why I would be heartbroken to go in reverse. I've always kept an eye on the incision watching for changes, or even if I myself should feel sickly, that hasn't been the case. Feel good, incision doesn't have additional swelling, it's not hot or tender. I'll post tomorrow when I find out more, thanks for listening everyone and your advice and input is always greatly appreciated.

I think it's a good idea to have the OS take a look just to be careful. I hope your first day back to work is a good one. Take some ice packs to use when your knee starts to swell or ache. I even used ice on my half hour drive home at the no of the day.

Well put my first full day of work into today and came home exhaust with a achy lower leg, I've elevated and iced all evening, not that it seems overly swollen it doesn't. Just all in all a long day and was so glad to come home, actually so exhausted I had a upset stomach and didn't seem hungry for supper, just wanted to rest.
As for my wound, the O.S. choose not to see me, but with talking with the head P/T decided to Rx Santyl ointment for the wound. Gave me directions on how to apply it and said it my be Rx. for use once or twice a day. Just used it a short time ago, not sure if it was the fact I was up on my feet the majority of the day, or having the wound covered all day and being warm weather it did have some discharge again this evening.
Anyone know anything about this ointment, looked it up on line but didn't find out much more than the patient leaflet in the package said. ( talk about a expensive ointment I had a co-pay of $5.00, but the slip for it said the insurance saved me $696.00 wow, thankful for insurance, just a pity that things cost so much. )

Going back to work is rough.

I never heard of that medication but by the cost it should be good, they didn't give you any explanation as to why it's taking so long to heal and still draining??? When do you go back to OS?

Go back to see the surgeon it's over 2 wks away yet. Not sure what causes the drainage and no one has ever really explained it.

Have you ever posted a photo here of the draining part?

Yes, @KarriB posted a photo for Josephine last week about it. It had a large hard scab on it at that point, that scab has been removed, when I clean it again I'll take a new photo. Cleaned it and applied the new ointment last night, tossed and turned a bit and had to clean and re-wrap it this morning, if I can keep this dressing on till morning I will. It can be changed 1 to 2 times a day dependent on drainage. I used the supplies the p/t told me to use, but also used some vet wrap over it all to hold it place for work today, otherwise I think the dressing would have all been down my leg.

Well 2nd day back at work and I thought this morning it's going to be a long day achy day as I was still achy this morning from yesterday. But I must say today was more like the way the days usually go, and I came home not feeling as wiped out. Now to enjoy the nice weather as I lay on the couch with my ice pack, leg elevated and windows opened to let in the nice breeze. beautiful Sept day here in Wis.

I went back and saw the photo and Josephine's comment. It looked dry in that photo, but you've said its seeping still. Has the ointment done anything?

@KarriB yes in that photo is did look fairly well other than it was a large, dry, hard scab, the drainage (slightly) kind of came up around the sides of the scab. The p/t cleansed my wound one day and it looked the best it had in a long time, but it's wide, long and deep. That is when I noticed those things, (size of wound.) But once he cleaned it, the slight odor it had was gone also. It's weird never had trouble with healing any where before.

When I clean my wound and apply new dressings tomorrow, I will take new photo's to post. Think I may have that part figured out now, of posting pics.

I'll be curious to hear what your OS says, but maybe it'll be healed by then.
