Feeling much better today. Yesterday my nurse realized it was the percocet and Oxicontin that was making me so sick. She got me some hydrocodone (lortab) ordered and now I feel 100% better. I am able to eat and do my rehab. It is not as strong for the pain but it is still ok. Ice helps with the post excesizes discomfort. I am much happier.

Got to 95 on my flexion and still about 0 on extension. Will be able to do more I think since I am feeling better.

Have had visits from my mom and her friend today. A friend from work also came to see me again today. Lots of calls from other friends and family.

My knee feels like a normal knee although it is still stiff. Have noticed it making some sounds when I walk. I hope that goes away with improved strength. I am glad I am on this side and have made the move to gaining my life back.

Very sleepy and not much stamina but I know that will improve.

Good for you, Donna.....sometimes it does take some trial and error to get the meds right. It sounds like you'll be able to move forward now!

Had a good day in PT and in OT today. Did some new quad exercises that helped me focus on isolating some weak muscles. The occupational therapy was fun too and we worked on balance and stamina.

I can't say enough good things about the nurse who takes care of me on days. She goes the extra mile to teach you about your care and needs and ways you can work on your strength on your own in the room. She was the one who recognized the drugs that were making me sick. I felt so bad I did not know what it was only that I could not function or eat.

I am at 95 degree Flexion.

Not sure if insurance is going to approve me staying after tomorrow. I really hope they do.

Donna,

It sounds like you are doing great. You will be fine--even if you have to go home. It sounds like you are moving in the right direction. Kelly

Donna,
I think things are definitely on the tight track. I bet you will continue to do well, with such a great attitude. Keep it up!

Think I may have done too much in therapy yesterday. Should have stopped before the last 5 minutes on the recumbent crosstrainer. Got painful within the next two hours. Spent a swollen and painful night. From now on I will follow my gut feeling on this. It is so hard to know at times never having been here before.

I was enjoying moving again. Need to learn the stairs if they send me home. I have to climb15 to get to the floor where everything is. Kitchen, baths, bedrooms, and living rooms upstairs.

Thanks for the posts of support!

8 days post op and they have you on a cross trainer? No wonder you were hurting!

Sorry you over did it. That does sound a little early for cross trainer. I think you have to watch out for those machines as far as over doing it...it can happen easily. Hope you feel better.

I did 36 steps up to shower after I returned home from rehab. Took a long time. Then had to do 36 back down. But, the good news, is it's a breeze now. It all comes in time.

Found out I will be staying till at least Thursday and maybe Friday. Therapist I had today more realistic. Does not believe good therapy should be painful. Very hopeful since I have her tomorrow and hopefully the rest of the stay. She addressed issues that I had with my IT band preop. Recommended putting pillows under lower leg to assist short arch quad raise until I can build strength then take away a pillow at a time until able to do it without pain. She had other reasonable exercises I could do in room slowly increasing amounts of reps.

Icing now and feeling a nap coming on.

Well, what do you know? A therapist with common sense! :thmb:

Yes, take it a little slower. That trip home and the first few days will be trying and you want to be as rested as possible!

Will be staying at rehab another week for PT. Doctor changed my pain med again. First couldn't take Oxicontin and percocet due to severe nausea. Then they changed it to hydrocodone and I broke out in a rash. Yesterday went to OS for 1st postop visit. Took staples out, he says it was looking good and stable. Showed him the rash and told him about the itching and he changed me to Nucynta. So far so good but I was late on a few doses so my pain is still not really tamed well yet.

PT and OT say I'm doing well although my quad are extremely week. Can't extend my leg very well. Had a crying pity party for breakfast but am getting it back together a little. Just so use to being active and afraid I'm not getting my quad strength fast enough but I have so much swelling. Wearing a compression stocking during the day and it really helps. Ray has been a real sweetheart staying with me every night. It is a comfort to have him near and I feel safer he is there.

I still love my new PT and am grateful she has another week. I feel like I lost so much time being sick with the pain meds.

Was constipated too and used the stool softners everyday along with miralax. Finally the gave me some ducolox tablets to help me go.increased my water too.

Don't worry about the weepy pity party, sweet pea - even I had a couple while I was in hospital! I actually found the tears to be quite healing!

When I first got to rehab, and was sitting with all the other people, one of them had said they had had a boo hoo session. I was trying so hard to keep a stiff upper lip.

But one day, during PT, I cried. I scared one of the ladies that had had a stroke. She didn't sit next to me at mealtime again.

It does help you feel better afterwards though!

Feel better soon. :cnsl:

I still find that I am prone to crying and I finally narrowed it down to being overtired as it happened the last two Wed evenings in a row. I am back at work and I think by Wed I am overtired. I cried like a baby and then felt so much better!!

Flexion still not good. I am at 90 degrees had been as far as 95. Still swollen. Going to work on quads and Flexion this weekend had pain around kneecap during therapy. There is a button on the back of the patella. I remember some sharp pains there during a session on the crosstrainer last Sunday. OS did xray on Tuesday said the joint looks ok. PT says it could be scar tissue. It's just scary not knowing what the pain means and if its ok. Guess something cemented on the patella isn't that fragile. Afterall look at our Kelly on her skis.

Can't wait to be more mobile and flexible. I know I must remember the RICE and pain meds.

Donna, can you please put your operation and date in your signature? It would be so helpful.

I can tell you what the pain means - you're doing too much! Way too much. Do go easy on the exercises.

Good grief, girl - you're not even 2 weeks out yet and you're already fretting about ROM? It's the swelling and pain that is blocking it and they are being caused by doing too much. Simple logistics. Your knee needs time and space to start healing and settling down. You'd do better to rest, elevate and ice more at the weekend than "going to work on the quads and flexion" which will only make your swelling and pain worse and reduce your flexion.

And about that PT saying it could be scar tissue - at two weeks? Nothing's healed much at two weeks so it can't possibly be 'scar tissue'!

Thanks Josephine. I was just worried about it because I did not want to mess it up and have to start over.

I did put my op date in my signature but it must not come through because I am posting from my phone. I will manually do so from now on until I can post from home. I have noticed that the avatars don't show for me on this phone and some pictures.
