Do not consent to an MUA when you have swelling. a) it will make the swelling worse and b) there's no need for it anyway. Of course your leg is going to swell like gangbusters doing that job! He's a surgeon - he should know this!
Good luck Donna ! You will get the flex back once the swelling comes down don't worry you are on the right path. Remember going back to work makes the swelling come back it did for me but lucky I could ice it throughout the day and on my commute. Hang in there you will be okay. :THUMB:
Thanks everyone. Jo I was the one who asked him about a manipulation when I saw him at work. It was not his idea. He said it was swollen and for me to wait and see how it did after this week. I was getting nervous about the swelling and the motion loss. But I feel better about it now and know I need to give it adjusting time. I also ask my manager to decrease my hours to 36 hours a week and she did. I'll still get full time benefits at that amount. So I've calmed down and made some adjustments too.
Donna just a suggestion to help your swelling, whcy not try compression when you ice & elevate. I used compression every time I iced and elevated and had very little swelling. See Kneerus thread today and you will see he's using it also and helps with his swelling.
Good luck and I'm sure if you get your swelling in control your'e flex will be great.
Never thought of using compression while icing. I do use compression hose while working. My job adds pressure on me as we are expected to reform at a fast pace. If I had a slower paced job it would be easier and I would not be so frustrated. I just keep looking for ways to work smart. At least I was able to decrease my hours for a while. Thanks for the suggestions. Ideally with my job I could have used a couple more months probably to heal for return. Last week they gave me help. This week they had me on my own. Again I have to look for opportunities to decrease my steps and take a cart to carry heavy items.
Donna,
When I ice I wrap the area first with an elastic Ace Bandage. Snug it up pretty good and it provides a barrier for the skin from the ice and compression at the same time. Works really well.:THUMB:
