Kneeling

@dadman35 I did rehab, a total of 2 weeks in hospital. I found it helpful for the support and answers to any problems. It was also great as far as pain control because they had to alter my meds a bit to get good control. Lastly The twice a day rehab was gentle and hands off and there were always other tkr people around to chat to and not feel like you are going through this alone.

This is the end of the third week and has been something of a turning point for me. The in home physical therapist came the first two weeks but I couldn't set up an appointment with outpatient p.t. until this upcoming Monday. The week "off" has really helped. Finally found the right number of pillows to use so sleep is possible. I elevate and ice for about 1-1/2 at a time, then get up, do some chores, sit out back, etc. for 20-30 minutes, then back to elevating and icing. The swelling has gone down a lot and even though I'm dreading the first p.t. evaluation, my leg is bending back a bit more because the swelling is down. Tried to go a longer time between pain pills but it became quickly apparent that wasn't a good idea. Still can't concentrate and don't have much energy, but this week seems better. Hope you'll feel the same soon.

@dadman35 Welcome. Tkr is quite a process. Right now I should be home after a rtkr but things didn't work out and had to go back in my LTKR incision to fix a spot. My LTKR is great. Love the way I can get around now without the arthritic pain I had. Three months ago I wasn't in a 'happy' place yet, but keep icing and resting where and when you can. We are all here for support and guidance.

I seemed to turn a corner during week 3 post op then a bigger one at week 6. Week 7 just started and life feels great! Knee still is sore but nearly as much. I've lower Tramadol from 3-4/daily to 2/daily. Walking is great and my baby knee feels a part of me!!even 2 weeks ago I wouldn't have believed that I'd feel this well! Hang in there; you'll do great!!

Have been doing the elevation with the pillows but it is causing pain and bruising on the left hip. Any thoughts?

Hi dadman35,
I had my ltkr on 10th of Feb, so 4 days ahead of you. I am still in a rehab hospital, for me this has made the whole experience so much easier.
The hospital bed elevates so easily and comfortably and the nurses bring the pain meds and ice packs regularly round the clock.
I know this isn't for everyone, but for me it has been great.
I will be glad to go home on Tuesday the 28th Feb, but will also miss all of the kind care I have received.
I agree for the moment , sleeping alone is easier, nights are always the hardest.
I do hope you get that rotten pain under control soon .

Oh , by the way someone on here has some photos of how they joined pillows together with large safety pins, if anyone can repost them for you , maybe this will help.

When you elevate your knee make sure you have a slight bend in the knees down your toes are above your nose. That should help with the pain. Here is a picture of how to elevate.

Tried again tonight, no go. Anyone else have this issue with elevation?

I found the toes above nose thing uncomfortable in bed so mainly used just two pillows going from under my hip to my toes. This was more comfy. Less elevation but better for me and then I'd elevate properly now and again.

I am going to forgo the elevation in bed and just go during the day on the couch. I wonder if I am shifting in my sleep and causing the hip pain.

I think you have to go with what's comfortable for you. Make sure you are not trying to elevate with a totally straight leg cos that's a killer in the pain department. I found that my operated leg just bent naturally when I was sleeping and as long as you are not putting anything just behind the knee which can compress anything, you should be fine.

It wasn't my knee that is in pain but my hip. Hopefully during the day I will get better results.

Has anyone experienced bee stings in their pecs? Being told it's from using the walker.

Bee stings? Do you mean short, sharp pains? I haven't heard of anything like that.

How much of your weight are you putting on the walker? That should start to decrease from now on, as your leg gets stronger.

It is but is still weird. At first I thought it was an insect, took off my shirt, looked in the covers... its still unnerving but happening less.
