@Kay9 so glad you're finally home! And bully for you regarding ditching the TEDs!

RE the cramping, just be sure to drink lots of water! The stool softener needs that to work.

Rest, relax, and recover! Those are your goals for today.

@Kay9
So glad you are home and have figured out the TED thing! As Leggin suggeste~The sock aid works great. I only wore mine in the hospital but then had an electrical peice that wrapped with Velcro and pumped my legs to keep the blood flowing. Keep your legs moving every hour or so and you will do ok. But it sounds like you are moving because of needing to go to the bathroom! :(
It sounds like you may have taken too much to prevent constipation. I am so sorry~ it is a fine balance. May skip the Milk of Magnesia?
Hang in there!

Thanks @agileHippie and @Sullivand . Yes I think Ive taken too much. Im now led with a hot water bottle on my tum. Cramps are horrid. Also, my flipping wound is now stinging, never had that once in the hospital? Whats going on there?

Right, I need to ask the experts about pain relief too please? Ive been sent home with...
Dihydrcodeine- 1-2 ,4 times a day.
Paracetomol- 1-2, 4 times a day
Ibuprofen, 1, 3 times a day.
I also have my own Tramadol and co-codamol that I use when needed for muscle pains, and may prefer to use, if possible?

The hospital havnt given me specific times to take the above and Id prefer to do it by setting an alarm to take them so the pain never gets away with me like it did those first few days. I took 2 Paracetomol at 1.30 and so far thats all Ive done since I got home. Im worried about taking the codeine as Im already struggling with the constipation.
Can I please ask @Jaycey or @Josephine or any other knowledgeable hippies, what they think my pain schedule should be, can I take all the above or not, and any other advice that might help.

Thanks a huge bunch:thumb:

I

I had 5 prunes after every meal, plus a stool softener. It took about 5 days for anything to happen. I agree its very uncomfortable. Hope things move for you soon.

Good news on the stockings, they are a real pain to get on and off.

Hi @Liznwiz I hate prunes but can just about tolerate drinking prune juice. Eating them though...:no-fin:. Ive taken Fibre-gel but dont know if thats a bulker or softener? Is it the same thing?

Cant believe my body has been sawed, hammered, majorly assaulted, and the thing thats causing me the most problem is POO.:skep:

It will all happen naturly and if that is main thing bothering you something's OK.

Lol you are right @Legin . It shouldnt be a major concern. Im sure there are going to be others. My Daughter has just had a mini melt-down over pillows:unsure:. I was trying to stack them up like in the picture on one of articles here, to elevate my legs? My Mum and Daughter got into a bit of a fight over exactly where the pillows should go and my Daughter stormed off. Im not bothering with the flippin pillows now.

I need to sort out these pain tablets, so Im "ahead of the game" too. Im hoping for a few tips.:thumb:

Dear Kay9. I have 3 daughters! I get the drama too!
I would follow the directions given to you from the hospital on the meds. Eat extra fruit and veggies and drink the prune juice too. I promise the pain can be worse than the stoppage so keep up with it. I took the codeine meds for a bout 2 weeks then went to Tramadol because I was tired of the fog in my brain. Setting your alarm is a very good idea to keep track. I would also suggest calling your OS if you switch to something that was not given post op. Also I think Tramadol and ibuprofen don't mix well but again call your doctor for those answers. I hope you feel better!

Ok im not sure this is going to work with my Mum and daughter looking after me:sad:

Major melt-downs going on here. Im sat on my bed listening to it all and wishing Id stayed in the hospital. This one was over Ice. Wish Id never asked for some.

So glad you are home! The cramps will lead to (possibly spectacular!) results. I remember somebody writing a really funny post about the explosion day
That balance between narcotics and digestive results is a personal matter. I took my oxycodone+tylenol at the max dose by the clock. They also made me take celebrex for a month. Once I got the first "result" out of the way, everything was much easier as I was drowning in prune juice and eating tons of dietary fiber.
So if it were me (this is not medical advice!!!!!!!!!) I would take max dose of those three things they sent home with you, by the clock. Since you already started with the paracetomol, you can do the codeine one next. So you would be alternating those two every two hours, more or less. The ibuprofen would fit in there somewhere too.
I kept a handwritten "spreadsheet" of my pain meds. Drug names heading columns, times taken going on down the page under correct heading. Since I am extremely visual, I mad sure to keep proper spacing of times, so that I always had an actual "map" of where I was in the day. Let me know if you want a photo of that-- happy to oblige!
Yeah, your daughter and your mum, not always gonna work, sigh. Perhaps you could stack the pillows how you wanted, and then ask for help getting your legs up. My hat is off to you-- my son came home from school unexpectedly and highly stressed the third day I was home, and did not go back for a whole month. So much for a quiet recovery! He did do some water and food fetching, but I had always to be on the alert (you know that feeling well!) that he didn't get up to something ill-advised.
Have gone on long enough! Every day will get better!

@Sullivand thanks for that. I do get on well with Tramadol, im used to it, Im wondering if I can just substitute the codeine for it?

The hospital didnt really give me any directions, it just says take 2 tablets etc. i guess Im hoping for a more detailed description of what I can do, like for instance, take 2 paracetomols at 1pm, a tramadol at 3pm, ibuprofen at 5pm, etc etc. I know it doesnt mean somebody can say that to me though, lol. Im afraid of taking too few or too many I think.

Oh @Kay9 I know your pain!! UGHH! Meltdowns. Everybody is stressed out, and they both want ownership of you. It's like you brought home a new baby!
Will they possibly agree to each having a realm, which YOU dictate? So mum does this, always, and DD does that, always? That would be a rule my son would be amenable to.
It's awful to have no one who really gets it at home, and moreover they both probably want you to be who you always are RIGHT NOW. Argh. Hugs for you!!!

Lol Kay you will have seen my OWN drug regimen by now. I forgot to say one thing, which is I myself would never add two narcotics together.
The hospitals instructions said 4 times daily? I mistook that in my post for "every four hours". So "four times daily" means as close as you can get to every six hours. I used my alarm to make sure. It also helped that I am a very light sleeper on a good day!

@zauberflöte thankyou! Oh I pray for that explosion :praying:

I will read and reread your post till it goes in about the pain meds. I seem to have a bit of brain fog:whistle: And cant understand simple things at the moment.
I totally understand about your son, as I know you do about my Daughter. My problem is that my Mum, at now 87, doesnt believe in Aspergers Syndrome, or Autism, or ADHD, or anything much medically that cant be seen with the naked eye:unsure:. She said they didnt have these things " in her day" so has little patience with my Daughter. She just called her Lazy, my Daughter slammed off to her room and now wont come out. My Mum is trying her best, but so was my Daughter....the two just dont mix.

I think possibly my Mum will go home after the weekend and I will be fine with my Daughter. If Im not, I will find another plan.

Have to tell you a funny story that involves my mom bringing home my newborn brother when I was 13. Her mother was there to help out. I Do Not Remember At All that my Grama was there!! Did not remember 10, 25, not 50 years later!! My mother must have been going berserk trying to contain my hateful behavior, which I have completely blocked out!!

Omg @zauberflöte you are right..it IS 4 times daily! I thought it was every 4 hours? Ive just taken 2 more Paracetomol, 2 hours too early then? See the state I get into?!:sigh:

Im better off with my tramadol, 2 every 6 hours.

Oh dear! Your mother's exActly the same age as mine, but mine has a degree in psychology and did early research in autism in the late 1940s because of it. She actually spotted my son for autistic when he was a toddler, but wasn't convinced enough to say anything because by the time he was 2 he'd caught up on the speech front. She has been THE best grandmother for him, they are special together. I am sorry yours isn't as accommodating :(
She'll go home soon and things will be better :)

Re paracetomol, it depends ver much on the strength you are taking, for how often you get to have them. Here in the States, we are only allowed a certain total dose per day. So I currently use the "arthritis strength" which is 650mg per tab, maximum dose is 2 tabs 3x a day. Post hip I was using 325mg tabs, which I could have two of every 6 hours. But then I had to take into account how much oxycodone+paracetamol pills I was taking, so I didn't go over my daily max dose. Whew! Good thing I am good at that kind of figuring, even with TOTAL brain for at least 5 weeks!
Have to get off now but will check back soon :) :)
