You need to stay off the sauce Claire or get yerself to specsavers I got my second hip done last year. But enjoy that beer I could do wi a Stella or a wee goldie myself.

Hi folks.....I know I said I was keeping my mouth shut but here goes nothin....had great day today. Went for a walk this mornin on one crutch . Really enjoyed it and found it comfortable. Decided to go shopping and leave one crutch at home to see how I got on.. was walking around for 2 hours with no pain at all. Am dead proud of myself.. winding down with a glass of wine although my house has been taken over by 9 11year old boys all on a sleepover...my sons idea of a birthday party . Sounded like a good idea at the time but now am not so sure:boohoo:

Ha ha ha :giggle:... aw gawd am such a numpty. You still deserve the holiday though.

clarabo, How was the sleepover? Sounds like something fun for your boy but not such a good idea for you. I hope it wasnt too stressful. It sounds like you are doing really well.
Barbara

Elosarabrab. Hi barbara....sleepover was crazy. They were all still jumpin around at 4am this morning... still here and its 4pm. Think il be chucking them all out shortly. Needless to say they all had a great time.

clarabo, You must be knackered by now. I am pleased your son had a good time. It must be good for you to be able to do stuff with him and not be in agony. He has his Mam back. That is probably the best birthday pressie for him.
Barbara

Still feeling not bad folks (touch wood)... have been out walking my dog which obviously has put bit more pressure on hip so its a wee bit achy, but only when im sitting its better when I am up walking around.

Just wondering though. Anyone else had the lumpy hardness and soreness to touch around incision site.. its still quite swollen looking in that area in comparison to other leg. Whole shape of leg is different. Its really bulky and solid feeling to touch and can be quite sore around it.also have a large area of numbness next to scar... its completely insensitive to touch, even sharp pressure... is this all normal ?

Are you icing and elevating it Claire? That should help bring the swelling down :)

Hi Clarabo, the lump and pain near the incision as well as the numbness are resolving I'm 7 months from mine. I can feel pinching, sharp and pressure but its very patchy still but getting better. I've been using foam rollers at first it was torture but now it can be quite soothing after exercise and I think it has helped with the hard lumps and bumps. It's a long process but worth it, today I'm redecorating our bathroom lots of up and down ladders :-) or kneeling on the floor bending and forgetting I'm bionic.

puddle fish.. Sounds like you have the 'forgotten hip' ... Good for you, but careful on those ladders :)

clarabo My friend had his L thr last May; his lumpiness, asymmetry, and numbness have fully resolved. I have the same symptoms and signs 4 weeks out (which are common with the anterior approach as I've read here and elsewhere). Today I am weight bearing on the operated leg for the first time- I feel good! :happydance: :egypdance: :dancy: Hoping that your recovery leads you down the path of your brightest dreams and biggest hopes and prayers...

puddle fish Go on with your bad self! I gave up ladders for lent...years ago...that's how my father ended up with his thr...slid down a few steps (in his 70's) after cleaning the gutters on the roof!

Last time I decorated the bathroom I balanced on the side of the bath or on the loo :heehee:.

Guilty as charged! I do elevate but very seldom ice. Think iv only done it once or twice in 7 weeks. Its laziness that's all.... walked for about 45 mintes this morning with the dog. Even climbed a wee hill . Had to take my son to the nurse today and ended up walking to town afterwards so am pretty burned out.... think the ice would be a good idea just now.

Aw gawd am fed up!:hairpulling:... forget what its like to have a day when nothin bothers me. Maybe Im easily annoyed:gaah:. Got a sore lower limb today . Its like stretching right up from my ankle through my calf . Think climbing up the hill at my house might have done it. Its not that painful just uncomfortable when im walking. Was really enjoying doing a bit more and feeling like I am getting back to 'normal'...
I have been looking on some ortho sites today... notice a lot of them saying most people should be walking unaided at my stage and also back at work... there no way I could walk without my stick and as for going back to work there no chance just now either.

It all depends on the type of work, how long it takes to get there. Your job involves a lots of standing bending reaching and lifting and the working conditions are cool so it will take longer. I think the hardest thing to come to terms with is the feeling that there is somethig wrong with your progress compared to others, and other poeples perceptions which range from, I've heard they get you up walking the next day after THR (therfore your healed) to you cant possibly do that you need to take it easy.

In the States we have a show like that called Shark Tank
My Mom had a bell and also she and my Dad used walkie talkies when she had her hip replacement 13 years ago :)

Liveringer its a 6 inch diameter foam roller that you can use to try and help massage out the grumpy muscles and ligaments @C_Mac told be about them there is some info on them somewhere but I cant find it. (It takes some getting used to).

puddle fish. Think I need to try the roller thingy..... sounds like it might do some tricks.... like ironing out some pretty deep wrinkles.... hey this could b the next beauty product..... think im on a mission to come up with next investment for one of the dragons (sorry if ur not in the uk that might not make much sense). :what:
Dragons den. Reality tv programme with 4 minted(rich) business ppl sitting in chairs and basically watching while ppl bring their big ideas upfront in hope for a big business investment from either one of them (most
of the time its a lot of disappointment and embarrassment).....I love it !
puddle fish. I wont steal ur idea its your patent. Lol
