THR July Hipster Recovery and Beyond

Good Luck! Hopefully relief is on its way :praying:
Movies, popcorn, itching

Hahaha! This blast from the past comes to mind....anyone remember?
One of these things is not like the others
One of these things just doesn't belong
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Keep us in the loop....

Oh my stars...don't need that itching!
Hope all eases soon...and hope your weekend is sweet.
(After you watch Raising Arizona...please don't judge me!)

The adhesive is gone, yay. The itchies are subsiding. They moved my post op appointment up to Friday afternoon since I was going in to get adhesive removed. They did xrays and apparently everything is coming along.

I do have an odd pain. It starts in middle of outside of thigh goes down through knee and outside of calf to ankle. Almost feels like a sore muscle when I touch it but the pain meds don't seem to relieve it.

Has anybody experienced this? Is it normal?

On series 2 of The Crown. Princess Margret just met the artistic, broody photographer and he photographed her. Nobody in my family understands the interest of I have in what they call this "bloody boring" series. I love it so watch it when I wake up in middle of night and when they are all gone during day.

Have a great day all.

Glad you were able to get adhesive removed and get rid of those itches! The pain sounds normal to me...different muscles plagued me differently as I got more mobile.
Plus those years of leaning and limping led to bad gait...as soon as I could properly stand up...tight muscles would come back and ache.
Early days and a journey for sure.
Icing truly is a great remedy after all activity!
Hope your weekend is sweet....

Laura, we had our hips the same day but mine was the left & anterior. I’ve had muscle twinges in the thigh, sometimes near the groin, sometimes nearer the knee, since my first full day home.It makes walking a bit painful. Hope your pain goes away!

Hi Laura.
I had posterior LHR June 5. I had all kinds of pains going down the side of my thigh. Yesterday , my knee was hurting. Today, the healed incision area is painful. My experience is one of strange pains coming and going.
About 3 weeks after my surgery, I went way over board , the over did it club, and was told by OS to rest for 2 weeks. So instead of moving forward, I went the other way.
People on this forum will say go slow.. Great advice. Everybody's experience is different. To me, this was a Big deal. I keep saying that everyday.
The last 2 days, I see improvement. I'll see what happens tomorrow. Hope for the best.
Good luck to you.

AnnieRose2 And InkedMarie.....AND Laurarosee....LOT’S of ups and downs like a roller coaster ride. But once we climb the highest mountain after time our bodies heal and then the pain days are less and more positive accomplishments add up every new day. Till the weeks and months are lost memories that pass to total daily enjoyment until we all eventually say, “I am so glad I did it”!

Soon you will be dancing with no memories of the mountain you climbed to get your life back!

Mojo I'm almost dancing. But dancing with bumply hives and hivey hives.

I iced and elevated today b/c it had originally appeared as though my bumply hives were on swollen areas and hivey hives under adhesive. Now that adhesive is off and I've gotten good a good look. The under adhesive area has/had hivey hives. They looked like mosquito bites. They are disappearing. The other areas are bumply hives. Smaller, and covering larger areas. And they are increasing. They are on my top thigh area, the spread all around to back of thigh up through hip and tush and lower back and side of torso and when I went to brush my teeth I noticed them on my face. Just noticed some on my arm.

And just to cover answers to anticipated questions, I only use Dove soap for sensitive skin, unscented/no dyes All or Tide detergent, and unscented dryer sheets.

All these bumply itchy hive areas are on same side as my new hip, which btw appears to be healing at least as well as it should be if not better. Is there any possible benign reason this could be happening?

I'm itchy and bumply but am feeling good and almost ready to dance.

As everyone has said congrats on your progress and movements. I've had a posterior THR and am no where near as activity as you are. I'm on week one, 7 days in. Swelling is fun to see what size the leg can get. The bruising is coming along nicely, down to just below my knee.
Keep up the positive out look and good luck with your dressing. I'm lucky with mine, glad it is waterproof and as stable as it is. Sliding on and off the bed, does put some strain on the would. Can shower and feel, normal.

i am going to follow this as also due the posterior approach. NOT looking forward to it one bit, but The Crown is one I have always wanted to watch as I love stories about Princess Margaret so that is one for me to download. Good luck Laura and Bull - I will be about 3-4 weeks behind you assuming the op is on time. My Consultant is rather old-fashioned and has a unique bumpy blue dressing applied which makes waterproofs difficult to go over. Apparently he is one of the few in this country to use it... I am seeing the hairdresser this week for a cut and tint and there is also hairdressing in the recovery place I am going to. A small thing I know and very vain but I know that it will help me!

??? Some kind of allergic reaction???
It sounds like it could have started with adhesive bandage but it has caused a more wide spread reaction?
I would let my doctor know if it doesn't begin clearing soon. You don't think it could be attributed to medication do you?
I know I've seen quite a few folks have bad reactions to the adhesive but don't remember if it migrated with the hives.
If it was the bandage, I should think it would ease very soon.

Bull76, good to hear you are coming along. Keep us posted. It sometimes feels like two stes forward one step back but overall should be getting better daily.

SurreyGirl, hairdressing in recovery sounds wonderful. To feel good, looking good helps so much. Best of luck to you.

I HAVE AN ITCHY SPREADING RASH.

It started on just the swollen areas and under the adhesive. Now it is on back, thigh, leg, hip. Appears to be on my arm and my face. All on the right hand side. Is this common? Abnormal? heard of?

Hi @laurarosee
If it were me, I'd call my surgeons office ASAP and go from there.
Could it be in relation to any meds? Look up possible side effects.
Hope you get answers or it resolves soon. Please keep us posted.

I'll send them a message tonight, thanks Layta. I'm only taking tylenol, once in awhile an Aleve that I took daily before surgery and a Tramadol at night. Its making me crazy.

They may want to give you a dose of benadryl or something!
So sorry you are having to deal with this.:console2:

So, I went into see the Dr. Definitely an allergic reaction to something. I received steroid meds for 6 days. Still taking oral benedryl and alternating benedryl and hydrocortisone cream.

But the real news is....I walked a mile today and went to first post-op PT yesterday. Feeling fine. No swelling, no pain. Woohoo!!

For some reason I had a rash on my op side above the incision. I used hydro-cortisone cream and it eventually cleared up. The tape drove me crazy with itching but there was no rash under it. I generally don't get rashes so it was strange.
