THR July Hip Replacement - When will I ski again?<

Using ice all day just keep moving it from one spot to another, but find it very cold.
Be sure you are putting a tea towel or hand towel between the ice and your skin.

I am using a towel. I just get cold quickly so always have a blanket over me when icing.

Hello @Lski Hope you are continuing to do well! Just a note about going back to work, even working from home. I did that and its more exhausting than you might think. Just being alert and always ready for 8-9 hours a day, even if you are just sitting in your recliner is really tiring. I only took 4 days off after my last THR and thank goodness work was slow because I was exhausted all the time! I also found that I had short term memory problems -- probably due to the general anesthesia -- and I had to be very conscious of that and write down everything! Best wishes!

I did the same thing.
Hope today is a Good Day...:)

Kayak59- I appreciate the thoughts about working from home. I was considering half days for the first month when I do decide to get back to work. Do you think I'd be capable at 3_weeks to work 4 hours each day?

Mojo333- I wish it had been a good day, unfortunately it was aweful. My husband & I were aggravated by our daughter's behavior. It escalated to craziness. Not sure what today will bring. He might leave us because he's tired of being our slaves, is just one of the terrible things he said. Please pray for us.

Aww, Lski I'm so very sorry to read your words. You don't need that drama right now.
This should be a peaceful time for you as you are recovering from a major surgery and only
11 days post op. Prayers for your comfort and peace and harmony in your household as you began to heal.
Know that we're here for you. Please stop by whenever you need to.
Hugs :console2:

Oh @Lski , sorry to hear of troubles. Teenagers can be horrible selfish creatures one minute and sweet angels the next. As my mother used to say "Inknow why preying mantis ear thier young':loll:. Emotional distress is as bad as physical distress.

Can you call a friend to come by, take you to lunch or a nearby park where you can separate yourself from for a little bit?

Keep in touch with us here. Recovery is not just physical...

Thanks for your thoughts & prayers.
I only have one friend who i have called but she is older & suffers with her own health issues.
I don't know if she could help me or not but will contact her again today.

Oh my stars.
My little drama queen is 22 now and just beginning to get some emotional maturity. Mostly she's a happy person, but when things are wrong...it would be the end of the world!
I'm sure your husband is just feeling overwhelmed...saying hurtful things in the heat of the moment is something I've been guilty of myself...not good!
Hope all calms down as early days of recovery are emotional enough.
Sending you best wishes...

@Lski I think that would be ideal -- a way to let you ease back into work. We are all different but if you are off the heavy duty pain meds, your head should be clear and it would help with the cabin fever/boredom that may be setting in already.

And sorry to hear about the domestic stress! Praying that is resolved soon.

Thank you all for support. Hubby was out looking for work to help ease our financial stresses. It's been tough for him since he was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2008 & also laid off from his job. He even went back to school for a master's in education but can't pass the exam needed to be a full time teacher. He has been substitute teaching which leaves him without benefits & no work in the summer.
Teenager is strong willed and everything is a power struggle with her. Since she's mad at Dad she is helping me but on her clock so I have to be very patient. I guess that's where the name patient comes from as we need patients. Just one of the great gifts of the Holy Spirit Jesus left us to navigate this life with. Heaven help us.

You have a lot going on. A husband with a medical condition struggling to find work, a strong willed teenager and, you, recovering from a major surgery. Any one of those can be overwhelming but all together.....the perfect storm. Please come here for support and encouragement when you need it. There are a lot of kind hearted compassionate members on the forum at any given time. Get as much rest as you're able, keep your pain well managed, ice often and hope for the best. We'll be here for you.
Hugs and prayers :console2: :prayer:

I can't thank you enough for your support and the kind words of the members of this forum. God has a great plan for me, when I get through all this my strength will be used for something very important. Hugs to all.

Things at home are getting better. We had a family meeting last night. My husband is overwhelmed with being in charge of the household. We set expectations, so hopefully it will be a better week.

One question about pain management: I have only been instructed to use ice along with the prescribed meds. My sister in law had knee surgery years ago and when I told her about the swelling she said she was told to alternate between heat & ice. She said the heat will activate the Naproxen when I take this anti-inflamatory. Has anyone done this?

A family meeting sounds like a wise idea. From what you've shared...your husband is stressed about
more than being in charge of the household. Hopefully things begin to fall into place soon.

It is not recomended you use heat now. Nor alternating between the two (heat and ice) Just continue with ice and your meds. If your meds don't feel effective, consider phoning the office of your OS to see if you can have them adjusted.
Hopefully today is a peaceful one for your family.
@Lski

I'd stay with ice regimen.
Also will help with swelling so anti inflammatory may not be needed...wasn't for me.
Hope this week gives you a much needed break.
Hope today is a good day!

Today is day #13. I found a pair of spandex that I would normally only wear to work out in. Once I put them on it was wonderful. They are tight fitting providing support. I was able to walk with one crutch & make an omelet & toast for lunch. Then sat at the kitchen island to eat it. Until today I couldn't sit on a bar stool for more than a minute. The swelling seems to be under control & less pain than the last couple days.
On the home front today is so/so. I think my husband needs a break so I've been looking for volunteers to help with housework & transportation. So far I've been told the services are only offered to Senior Citizens, so I'm just too young to need help.
I'm getting tired now so I'll try to nap.

Hang in there...you are doing very well!
I'm glad you feel more normal and are able to walk around in real clothes.
:)
