THR Juanita's Hip Recovery

So glad you are feeling better.
Patience during recovery is hard to sustain...but all well worth it.
Lots of improvement to come!
Hope today is a Good Day!

Hello,
I'm happy to read you're feeling better and that the pre-op for your hysterectomy went well.
July 1st will be here soon, you'll have that surgery behind you and finally be able to move full steam ahead.
Hope the rest of your week run smoothly.
@Ryesgma

Thank you , I can't believe how much better I'm doing since quitting PT and following all the wonderful advice I've received here:flwrysmile: I'm learning to take it one day at a time and not overdo it again .I hope you are having a good week too

I'm so glad that I'm finally feeling better , I was finally able to start working out my upper body and my core without some pt torturing me:rotfl: I am more aware of my limits and still following precautions until I meet with my os on the 28th :yahoo:

Great to hear an uplifting update!
You are going to love your new hip!:dancy:

I can't wait:dancy: quick question does anyone else have stinging pains in their incision? :what:

Been reading a lot of stories on here about getting stiff when seated too long , I have that pretty bad , when I start to walk I limp a few steps until I get going :umm: just wondering how long it takes for this to go away . Would also like to know what activities I should be avoiding :) :-) (:

Very common post op. The length of time before this eases varies with everyone.
Would also like to know what activities I should be avoiding
Unless your surgeon gave you restrictions you are pretty much free to engage in nearly any activity. Listen to that hip. It will quickly tell you if it is not ready for something new. Recovery is all about finding your limits, scaling back and trying it again another day.

does anyone else have stinging pains in their incision?
Oh yes...kind-of startled me. My recovery thread is rife with "what is this, is this ok?" pleas for reassurance.

As Jaycey confirmed...very common.
We like to call them "stutter steps", start ups especially after periods of inactivity.
I used to get up...do a few marches to fire things up...before heading forward.
Unfortunately, recovery is very often not a straight line. Here's a great graphic showing the trajectory!

Hope you have a great day @Ryesgma

Thanks for the info :spin:im really trying to get on with this new normal , I hope that you are having a great day too!! Going to go out today and run some errands with my husband , will not be overdoing it:heehee:

Wow what a weekend:happydance: thought I was doing good and not over doing it , guess I was wrong:bignono: very stiff and having sharp pains in my thigh ,should I ice and elevate this far out from surgery? I stopped taking pain meds weeks ago not sure if it's ok to take one :what: any advice would be appreciated:ice:

should I ice and elevate this far out from surgery? I stopped taking pain meds weeks ago not sure if it's ok to take one
Yes ma'am! I iced and elevated every night especially after I went back to work (too early) up to four months regularly...
I also had "leftover" pills, I took as needed.
Finding those lines can be tough.

@Mojo333 I did ice it today and it helped:ice: I too have leftover pain killers and I did take one last night it helped as well . I'm still doing my nightly workouts , I'm curious if there's anything I shouldn't be doing:what: I really want to stay in shape and continue to lose weight , I've lost 25lbs so far (began losing 7/2018) it's taken me a while but it was a life style change . My old os told me I was too heavy that stuck with me .:censored: (I wasn't even plus sized ) honestly I just wanted my hip to get better  hope you are doing well:dancy:

Glad you feel better...
I'm still doing my nightly workouts , I'm curious if there's anything I shouldn't be doing
What are you doing?

I lift weights (55 lbs 3 sets 10reps each) bicep curls 20lbs , leg lifts (50lbs 2 sets 10reps each) I am starting off slow mainly working my upper body and arms:yahoo: I recently added stomach crunches . Really hoping this is ok , not quite sure:fingersx:

leg lifts (50lbs 2 sets 10reps each)
 Oh my stars...This one I really think is not helpful at not even 3 months post op. Why do you feel this is necessary? You aren't going to atrophy up...and you aren't training...you are healing.

I am starting off slow mainly working my upper body and arms
That's a good thing!

I recently added stomach crunches
Does this cause groin pain?
I wouldn't do ALOT of them!

Please don't feel like you are improving this recovery by lifting weights with your legs. New hips don't like it and recovering from tendinitis or other issues can really set you back.
Slow wins this race.
Lots of time to strengthen and tone.

@Ryesgma
I’m not even thinking about legs yet!!! Other than some lightweight donkey kicks at PT. I will probably graduate to leg press after PT in 3 weeks which will be 3 months for me. I would say Walk, walk, walk and ride the spin bike for legs.
I’ll sit in my garage and do arms all day long, but no weights for legs yet.

Hi @Ryesgma
I agree with both Mojo and inthebeginning. Waaay to soon for those leg lifts. I'd definitely be icing :ice:
Hope your pain eases soon.
A great Wednesday to you!
