Janet,

I am so excited that you are doing so well! Keep up the gret work and you will be running marathons in no time! :yay:

While it would be nice to be ABLE to run a marathon, there is little that would be further from my nature than to actually do so, or even want to do so! Lol! Maybe walk a 5k, I've done that before.

Today was my second visit to PT. On the bike, my Cookie Monster makes it around, but it's too big a step for Elmo. Understandable! So I go over, rock back and forth, go over the other direction, rock back and forth... About 6 minutes in, I got confused and went the wrong direction, and darned if Elmo didn't make it over! I called over to the PT to tell her, and she asked which direction. Well, I don't know exactly, let me see... So I tried it both ways to see, and it went over both ways!

My biggest problem at PT was lightheadedness or queasiness. Even the short ride there in the car threatened motion sickness. The exercises I did standing up left me feeling the same, and I had to sit down between them. As soon as we moved to the table or sitting on a machine, I felt okay. I assume it's the drugs still, and wonder if it will last until I'm off of them. I did take the anti nausea pill before I left. Because it starts with the car ride, I don't think it's my blood pressure or something like that. Hmmm.

Janet,

Good job. I would agree with you that the meds are probably bringing on some of the quessies etc.
Also you are not on your feet as much as you were and that may cause some of it also.

Good morning Janet, yea Elmo and Cookie Monster! Isn't it great when we get surprised with our own accomplishments! Who knew life with new knees could be so fun! :egypdance:

About the lightheadedness, isn't that unnerving! I get it when I'm rinsing my hair in the shower, which I do with my head hanging down. Today I did it just going under the shower head with my head straight and it didn't happen. I hope it's just the drugs and when we get of them all will be well again. It's a scary feeling, like you're going to fall down and no one with new knees wants to fall down! :yikes:

Now, how did it go at the nail salon, did they make you whole again with that broken nail? :heehee:

Oh yes, I felt much more whole and undamaged getting my nails done! I'm still using my seat in the shower. I think in the next week I might be ready to take stand up showers, but hubby needs to put a hand grip in first. Then again, I'm feeling a little sick right now. I didn't take the Zofram today and I need to eat lunch. On my own, with Warren off to some meeting this afternoon.

I got one of the suction cup hand grip on eBay, it works great and very secure. Hope you feel better soon. You must be getting so tired of that sick feeling. :console2:

That's what I need to get, is a suction grip. I don't need to support my weight at this point, just steady myself. Today was an off day, achy and queezy. I was trying to take just one perc for the queeziness, but then that wasn't enough for the achiness following PT yesterday, I suppose. Didn't do much but lay around elevating and icing. With all the fuss and time I took getting the crycuff system and an extra cuff, I'm back to using my much preferred peas! Glad I got them on ebay, I ought to be able to recoup my money.

I have one of those suction grips in the shower. I use mine to steady myself also. But even just using it for that I'd reccommend checking it once in awhile. I've had it up for well over a year and once it has come loose. I know the instructions explained what to do but those were lost long ago. Every now and then I give a good tug on it to make sure it's still secure. I like having the walker in the bathroom when I shower or I use the toilet seat with handles they gave me at the hospital. Both are steady to hold on to getting in and out of the shower. I wish we had a walk in but both have tubs.

Sorry you're still feeling queezy Janet. It still hits me now and then but not bad and not for long. When it does I try to remember if I ate when I took the Percocet. They gave me Zofram in the hospital, that stuff works great!

I never take the pills on an empty stomach. If I can't take them with or after a meal, I have crackers and fiber bars next to the bed at all times. I wonder, is it primarily the Percoset or the Oxycontin also?. I'm taking Zofram and it helps but doesn't eliminate it all the time. Today, I decided not to take it this morning since I wasn't going anywhere, but that was a mistake and it took all day to make up for it it seemed. I do have a walk in shower, thank goodness!

I'm now hooked on Fiber Seclects Wheat Thins, I have them with my meds at night. I tried just taking Extra Strength Tylenol last night and I was tossing and turning all night, no matter what side I laid on it hurt. Guess I'm not ready yet. I go for my 1 month check up tomorrow, hoping he's ok with renewing the Percocet.

If I had to guess I'd blame the OxyContin.

I was told that the OxyContin because it is so long acting can mess w your central nervous system and was the most likely cause of my nausea. .... Two weeks later and I'm still " not right" so the whole issue might be hooey. I'm not sure if the pain meds were the original cause.

I loved the OxyContin ... I got a nice " I'm invincible" feeling when I was on them. I defiantly was trying to do more on week two because of the Oxy buzz than I should have been doing. It is a good thing to not be taking the Oxy. I'd love a Percocet but the nausea is waaayyyyy to much. It isn't worth it to risk being that sick to my stomach again.

FWIW every thing has nausea listed as a side effect. I was also using Neurontin as an adjunctive pain control med. Coming off of Neurontin apparently can be brutal for nausea.

Zofran is a wonder drug....I don't know where I would be if I didn't have zofran, it helps get me through the nights, sometimes it helps me rest.

Janet, this is impressive!!! I'm thrilled for you that both Cookie Monster and Elmo are keeping up with each other. If you can rotate that pedal all the way around, then soon I should be doing the same. Sounds like you have a good PT also which helps make for a smoother rehab. Keep up the excellent work!! :yay:

It's so nice to witness your recovery, and all of them here. Still reading. I am just getting overwhelmed with my "doctor shopping' trying not to get anxious, it keeps me so busy. So it helps to read recoveries. I remember my first PT for foot surgery, I was crying all the way through it, some pain but more drugs ha ha. But it started working from the first moment. Hope all goes well, watch out for the kitty, 16 is great, my previous one was 28! a tiny little chocolate point half siamese.

Hi Janet, I hope today is better than yesterday for you. It seems the minute we star messing with our drugs we pay for it! Oh well trail and error! Soon we won't need any of it and it will all be a blurr in our memory! Have a great day and weekend!:friends:

I woke up thinking today was going to be a really good day, but then I started feeling sick and have neither been able to sleep or wake up all day! I'm trying to rally for PT - hope a shower helps. i'll catch up with you all later!

Janet, sorry that you're feeling sick. Hope that the shower helps and that you feel much better soon. As they say, taking the pain meds on schedule is definitely important for the first part of recovery. Cookie Monster and Elmo will let you know when you can ease up on the pain med schedule -- sometimes a day here and there when you don't need as much, but definitely on-schedule before they "build up steam" with complaints. It's better to take it when one or both start feeling uncomfortable before it turns to bad pain. :gaah:

Your afternoon and evening with your daughter and family was beautiful. It's precious that Daniel wanted to sit next to you so that he could touch you. He likes the reminders that you're home and getting better. Thanks for sharing. :friends:

Janet,

I hope that you were able to make it to PT. I love going to PT! I am doing 15 minutes on the anti-gravity treadmill, and lots of exercises on the table. Katie and I play "catch" to help me work on my balance. That darned immobilizer has thrown it off, and since I left the immobilizer has been an item in the garage, it makes me kind of tipsy without crutches!:heehee::cocktail:

I made it through PT, sipping on a Coke for my stomach. So much effort to do so little! I was sweating in there today! I did 9 1/2 minutes on the bike, and most of it was getting both knees all the way around, but that was after much stretching and loosening. Didn't seem to be going anywhere, but it obviously is, if even a little. Came home and slept Hard for two hours!

Morning Glory, it has been so long since I've done any grocery shopping myself that I don't know what's on the market these days. I love Wheat Thins, I'll have to ask hubby to look for the Fiber Selects - always looking for fiber!

ChrisO, maybe that Oxycontin is the reason I have such a good outlook? Without it, maybe I would be all whiny and doomsday about everything! Lol! But I sure could do without feeling a little sick half the time. I was going to say And Sleepy, but hey, what else is there to do. Might as well sleep!

Hi Mary Grace! Yes, you WILL be able to do it soon(er or later). I have to cheat a little and lean away from the knee going over the top of the bike. They say it's easier to go backwards at first, so you might try that, but don't worry about getting over until it's almost easy, with just a little effort. And give the PT an evil look if he gets too close!

Kaye, this part that you are doing now is the hardest part in my opinion! And rightly so, as choice of surgeon is the most important factor. At some point, when you have what you believe to be your best short list, you just have to go with your gut, make a choice and move forward, secure in the knowledge that you are never locked in with no way out if at some point it doesn't feel right. Good luck!

Becky and Sonja, PT would be more fun without the side effects of the drugs, but sure don't want to not have the drugs. Maybe I need to look at trying some different drugs. On second thought Sonja, PT is not fun, regardless! Lol!

Well, that feels better, catching up with folks here! Jacky, I'll head on over to your place (thread) to see how you did today!

Oh, I love PT! I look at it as good for mind and body! Maybe my mind has gone crazy, because I don't take any drugs except at night! LOL :rotfl:
