Quiet day here. I actually got some bills paid and half napped through the baseball game, which we lost. I'm getting anxious for Monday to come to get started on PT. and for Tuesday to come for my nail appointment - I broke a nail today. It was nice to have the door open with the cooler air, nice to hear the birds. Grill got inaugurated with steak that was put over a salad, and grilled asparagus! So that's how boring my day has been. Boring in a nice way!

Janet, that sounds like a wonderfully relaxing day  -- except for the bills, the broken nail, and your baseball team losing. :sigh: Pleasant dreams.

You sound great, Janet. I'm sure being so positive can only help, keep it up! X

I had my first mis-step with the cat last night. I was two steps away from the bed, putting the window shade down, and as I turned and stepped away, the cat jumped down from his chair and got underfoot. I was just a step away from the bed and caught myself, didn't twist or bump anything, but did come down hard on my foot which sent the jolt through the knee. It hurt enough to get my attention, and getting up this morning un medicated it was especially sore. Surprising that that little would even hurt! But my fear has long been tripping over the cat! For that reason, the crutches go with me around the house.

Yep, those kinds of jolts really effect the soft tissues, don't really bother the knee. About 5 months post op, I was riding hubby's scooter loaded with groceries up the ramp to the back porch. Had my legs straight out and feet sticking outside scooter sides---was going too fast, my right foot hit the door frame--broke the little piece that keeps the screen door from swinging in. Well, my foot hurt for a week or so and my second toe hurt for 2 months (think I probably broke it)---but my knee was just fine--didn't bother it a bit.

Good thing for us these new knees are tough cookies. But falling from an upright position is something I don't even want to think about. I trained my cats not to get under my feet by actually stepping on them a few time when I first got them---they got the message and never get under my feet. (I'm not suggesting that you step on your cat, however.) Glad you had the bed as a back stop and no harm was done beyond causing sudden heart palpitations.

Janet,

Yesterday I went around the house without my crutches, doing the laundry, coking and other stuff. I overdid it and last night I was looking for my crutches! I thought that I didn't NEED silly crutches anymore.... well he he he i might not but my knee sure appreciates them.:)

Sonja, our new knees definitely have a way of telling us when they don't like something we do that's too much too soon. I have to be careful around the bedroom too. There's plenty to hang onto, but still need to be careful.

We don't have pets, so that's not a problem. I like to do quilling (paper fliligree), and a cat or a dog would LOVE to play with strips and coils of paper. Janet, hope that your cat gets better at staying out from under your feet. :kittykiss:

I'm glad you are ok Janet! When I get the leg lifter or the grabber that I got in the hospital after my dogs they know to stay away lol! I use them more for a pet keeper away than for their intended purpose! But hey it works!

My brother in law came over for dinner tonight. I haven't seen him since before my surgery. He commented that it seemed like I was walking a lot better than before surgery! I thought about it and he's right. I'm walking easily and without a limp at all. I definitely had a pain induced limping gait before, especially in the last several months.

Yes, ma'am, it just gets better and better; and you just get better and better! Know that made you feel good:).

Janet,

It relly is a moral booster to have someone esle tell you how much better you are doing. They see the little improvements probably more so than we see them ourselves.

Its less than a month since surgery. As you discovered, you'll feel it.

Janet, after my first two knee surgeries, I had several people comment that I no longer "walked like a penguin!" At first I was upset, but then I started laughing thinking about how I had locked my knees for 4 years had braces put on and used a walker to escape the pain. In reality the only thing that brought relief was the replacements!

For the record, yes I did walk like a penguin! LOL. Today, I walk normally, well, at a very fast normal pace! :rotfl:

Oh that naughty kitty! I hope it doesn't happen again. My cat does the same thing, and I am always stepping on her, she lets out a big squeal but never learns. She loves to just fall down in between my feet as I attempt to walk. Even the walker has run over her and she still doesn't learn. I live in fear of it happening after my surgery too. But we love them anyways...
:kittykiss:

Last night before bed I walked back and forth through the house to loosen up my legs, and the cat walked with me, back and forth, back and forth, hesitating at the turn off to the bedroom every trip. I felt bad as I did the fake out move and then ducked into the bedroom closing the door in his face. He is a constant companion. At 16 1/2, he doesn't jump up on my tall bed anymore, but is happy in his favorite chair on his favorite kitty pillow by the windows, so we're both happy in here.

Janet, That dinner sounded great, yummmm! Then your surprise, not so great! The thing with this new life of ours is that there could be a surprise at every twist and turn, when we least expect it! It keeps us on our toes even when we're in a drug induced state! Not being a big drug taker before this surgery I always thought, awe man I'll be a mess on these drugs even tylenol puts me to sleep, but not so! I guess the pain and adjustments our body experiences after this surgey compensates for the drugs we take and keeps us on an even keel, until we need a nap that is. Anywho, I am just so happy your kitty didn't cause more damage! I love your fake out move on him though! LOL!:loll:I could almost invision him on the other side of the door going, what the heck!!!!!. Too funny!

I hope you had good luck with PT today! I look forward to Wed. for mine.

Now a broken nail is the pits! How did you ever get to sleep last night?! You're to funny! I'm sure it will be nice to get to the salon on Tue..
It's nice that your brother-in-law mentioned your gait, we don't think of it until someone brings it up. Nice feeling!

Have a great day and enjoy your nail outing tomorrow!:friends:
