When they took the culture nothing grew. Although the white blood cells had a high blood count. I am going to see my old doctor from NYU Hospital for joint diseaseHe works closely with my doctor now and I am hoping to get some feedback.

:yes 4:My heart goes out to you. Just when a person thinks she has it bad , you hear a story like this. Hang in there you sound like one tough cookie!!!

I don't know what to add that hasn't already been said Deb. My heart goes out to you as well as MANY healing thoughts and prayers. :prayer1::prayer1::prayer1:

Hang in there Deb...there is an answer somewhere :yes 4: !

Hi Deb,

Sorry to hear about your problems, I can understand your worry and how scary it can be. Unfortunatly the best way for them to find out what it is is to get in there and have a good luck, If it is an infection the op that i would recommend is the two stage revision as it carries a 90% success rate. I was diagnosed with an infection over a year ago now and had an operation to remove all of the metal and cement, i then had a antibiotic loaded spacer put in to 'fill the gap' as it were. In my case the spacer worked just as well as a normal hip for me, could weight bare and was mobile. This stayed in for 11 months until all the aspirations came back clear. I think the WB cell count needs to be backed up by a nuclear bone scan to see where all the cells are going.
I hope that you get some results soon and if you want to ask anything feel free to send me a message.

Best wishes
Jak

Well I am back. Had the new hip put back in March 2, 2012. I am walking again and the left leg feels great. A lot of work was done to get the hip back in (bone graphs and a metal plate to hold the femur in place but he is an amazing doctor and he did it.) It has been 6 weeks and I am up and around with the help of Physical therapy.

The only issue is that I had gotten a bad cold 3 weeks post op with fever. My OS said the incision looked good. It was a little red and then subsided. Again thought I had an infection. MY General practitioner gave me Levaquin just in case it was bacterial. It seems to have gotten better but still I have an on off soar throat and aches and a low grade fever, never higher than 99.6.

Now my right hip seems to be bothering me and my lower back. The physical therapist seems to think it is the way I am walking, putting a lot of pressure on my right leg. The pain is in the muscle in the front and radiates around my hip. I went for blood and my sed rate 2.5 weeks ago was 95 and a C-reactive protein of 6.5. White blood was a little high but in range of 10.3. Yesterday I went for blood work and the SED rate went down to 70 and the C-reactive protein was at 4.3 still high. I am hoping my worst fear is NOT coming true of having an infection of the right hip. In Feb before they put the hip in the SED was down to 18 and the C reactive was at 1.6 so it was going good.

I do have Crones which is controlled right now so I don't think it is that. I am going to an infectious disease doctor too because the one in NYU I did not care for. The one I am going to is supposed to be excellent. I have had issues in the past 10 years with elevated sed rate and c reactive protein but after going thru this terror (which I made it thru with the help of my little men and my AWESOME husband) But I don't want to go thru it again. Let's see what the IF doctor says on Friday.

Debedeb,

Hi Debedeb,

As John just said, I do hope that the worst is behind you and that you can concentrate on your recovery now.

Deb, I can say that you have a full plate but I believe that you can deal with it. I know that your heart must be very heavy right now but do believe you will get thru this. and in time you will look back and know that you had people in your life that you personally don't know pulling for you. What a honor. Please remember we are here all the time and any time you need to come here, Please do. And most important a good cry I believe washes away the negative and fear so that strength and Faith can take its place. Please take care and know you are not along. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Hi Deb! Glad you are back. Sounds like you have really been fighting lots of issues. Well done you!

Lower back and hip pain is very common post op. You are walking a new way and muscles that have not had to work for awhile are complaining. I'll bet this all calms down.

Please let us know how it goes today.

Good to see you back on the forum and posting - Gosh you have been thru so very much - I hope things are better for you going forward - please continue to update us!!!
xoxo,
Linda.

I have nothing to add in the form of answers for you but want you to know another bone smarty is pulling for you and hoping you find answers you are comfortable with. I am sending positive energy your way and hoping whatever you end up having to do, you have the best possible outcome. -Cathy
