TKR Indieknee trying to recover

I’ve got a very lazy knee - it doesn’t like doing anything

It’s not lazy, it’s still injured from the trauma of surgery. Let it rest. It will get better with time.

If you push the knee, the knee will push back, and the knee will always win. Why fight a losing battle.

I’ve been in a great deal of pain today. What worries me is that Ive been told to start reducing some of my pain meds (oxy) which I have just started to do. But I obviously need something to help with the pain. I have only been on 300mgs of Gabapentin for about 2 weeks so I’m not sure whether that has kicked in. I’m going to discuss it with my GP next week (I can only get a telephone appointment!) but until then, would it be okay to take co-codamol? I have some that I used to take for my arthritis.

I’m having to go back on my original pain med dose until I can talk to my GP because the pain is immobilising. My knee is very shiny (my os says that is sign of CRPS) and hard and even hurts when I rest.
:catbutterfly:This cat pic doesn’t cure my knee pain but it cheers me up:)

I am so sorry you are in such pain. When will you be able to see your GP?

I’ll be speaking to her on the phone tomorrow. I should have made a face to face appt a few weeks ago for this week but I always forget, so they can’t fit me in.

I agree, your knee isn’t lazy, it’s still trying to heal from the surgery. TKR isn’t like a sport injury that needs work to rehab, it needs rest and time. It’ll have more energy and be ready to serve you, but right now I think you’re expecting too much from a 3 month old knee. Slow and steady wins the TKR race.

I hope your GP can give you some guidance and good advice. Your knee is still in the early stages of recovery and you should be giving it plenty of rest and TLC. Daily activities are exercise enough for a 3 month knee.

Who told you to do this? Not that I have any issue - oxycodone is definitely a short term pain med.

And for a start, Gabapentin is NOT a pain killer, it's a conduction control medication for nerve pain.
Co-codamol is pretty near useless for knees.
I suggest you ask your GP (assuming s/he is friendly!) if you can have Tramadol instead and take it with paracetamol in one of these routines

Thanks so much josephine - I’ll certainly ask my GP about tramadol. I think the Gabapentin is for CRPS.
My os told me to wean myself off oxy.
My GP is very rarely available so I end up seeing someone I’ve never seen before. But when I do see her or in this case speak to her on the phone, she’s quite friendly but does try and fit me into a category she knows about. She’s forever telling me stories of her mother who seems to have had everything I’ve had and whose age ranges from 80 to 95, depending on the problem.

Aww, thank you!

He’s still the one!!! :roseshwr:

My GP phoned today and arranged for me to go and see her tomorrow as an emergency appointment.
She told me to go back to my higher dose of pain meds until she can sort something out with me. At last I think the GP surgery has kicked into action.
I feel more positive today.:)

Yay! Be sure to let us know what you find out.

Had a good meeting with my GP. I now have a Gabapentin regime for my CRPS and advice on my pain meds.
I also have full support from the surgery - which, I think, means I can more easily get past the extremely protective receptionists when I need to see or speak to a doctor!
Wow I don’t know what’s happened to them but I like it.:)

I hope it helps you.

I second what Jockette says, I hope it helps you! :yay:
