THR In recovery land

Glad to hear all is going well! How are your doggies?

Sleeping came in spurts but I did manage some sleep on my non-operated side.
Great to see you are able to sleep on your non-operated side! Did you have the anterior approach?

Remember to stay ahead of the pain! If you are in pain you will not be able to relax.
@Boofit I remember your post about using pillows to simulate a recliner. Very helpful when I needed to change positions.
Yes, pillows and big soft cushions are so useful! I think I did not need to simulate a recliner to sleep at around the end of week 3. Now I am sleeping on my back and un-operated side. Still have lots of pillows surrounding me (for under knee, between legs, to hug etc)

Wishing you a pain-free recovery!

Suggestions from this forum have been so helpful. I did have an anterior approach and have no problem sleeping on non op side. The lounge doctor is the best invention. I use it frequently during the day but haven’t tried it at night.
I do a little then rest. Recovery is a lot of work. Trying to let my body be my guide.

Goal one accomplished. Woke up from surgery alive!
Lol, well done you! I am very glad to hear it!

Well, I guess “waste not want not” … but I don’t think I’ll be trying that recipe.

I’ve only just caught up with your thread Kathy. I did love your post-op pic. I took one of my own on Day 1 … best I can say about it is, it makes a great “before” shot. It’s great to hear that you are back with your doggies on the recovery side and doing ok. Just a matter of time to heal and you will be back to happy Wilkie’s.

Um, I said “walkies” (darn Autocorrect).

Hello and Happy Friday, Poodle3
You mentioned you received spinal anesthesia. Headaches from spinal anesthesia can last for a few days to a week and even a bit longer in some instances. If you’re dealing with any sleep deprivation, or BP fluctuations, it could be contributing also. If you’re not already, make every effort to stay adequately hydrated. Lots of water, drink, drink, drink.
I hope the nagging headache disappears soon and you have a peaceful weekend. :)
@Poodle3

Hi Poodle, I am impressed with your recovery, right out of the gate! Hopefully the headache eases soon as the surgery drugs leave your system.
Gosh, aren't you just so relieved to have the surgery over with?
Wishing for you an uneventful and restful weekend!

Drinking water will help with constipation also.
Good luck for success today. :fingersx:

theres Been so much going on here, family, friends, repair guy. Im an introvert and have limited energy right now although I do love seeing everyone. I did go to my primary about headaches and nausea And to have a medical person actually see me. She thinks it’s a post dural headache. I’ve been taking a med with acetaminophen, caffeine and a mild relaxant. I do believe it’s helping. She was not concerned and felt that if it was going to get worse, it would have by now, hoping it continues to improve. So I rest, elevate, ice and take my little walks. I actually wore my jeans to the appt . Swelling has been under control. My Dogs have been easy to manage. I have a wonderful vet tech who stops by before and after work to give them exercise and give me a little break. Constipation is lessening but I’m still working on it. I’ve found my stomach to be more sensitive. What works at lunch, may not work for dinner. Living alone, I have no choice but to heal. Yes, my son and dil stop by and friends from church have brought meals but they’re not here all the time. It’s ok. I think we are much more resilient than we think. at least I’ve found that to be so. I’m looking forward to more energy during the day. Sometimes my mind says let’s go dancing and eat nachos but my body nixes the plan.

Well good you seem to have an answer for the headaches. I eat the Metamucil wafers every AM with my coffee, been doing it for 30 years! No trouble with bathroom.
Yeah, just do what you can and the rest can wait, I've had to get used to dividing up my chores into how much energy I have and how my body is feeling overall.
My saying is I get up and think of what I'm going to do Or better yet, not do!!!
Stay well.

Just before I wrote that post, I decided to do a little training with my young one. She sits and stays while I walk around her. How hard is that on my hip, right.. wrong! Heading off to ice.

Ok, we’ll put that little training exercise to the back burner. At least you recognize it and are icing.
But let’s talk about the nachos…….

Felt so good yesterday then woke up to some headache and more nause. My coffee didn’t taste good. Oh please not that. I think some of it could be battle with constipation. Haven’t had the appetite for much in the fiber department but will try salad and nachos with black beans and ezekial tortillas. Sat out watching the birds and rabbits.

I will start by apologizing if this has been discussed. Many of us had great results with eating a few prunes each morning. Sometimes I chased it with a small can of prune juice. 2 prunes, then the small juice.
Somedays it worked a little too good. :dubious:

This too shall pass @Poodle3 .
